Iran says cheap “Made in China” Qurans full of typos

Iran’s Organization of the Holy Quran is scolding Iranian publishers who’ve outsourced production of the holy book to Chinese printers.

Apparently, their copies of the Quran are riddled with typos, according to the Tehran Times.

“These tableaus are made quite cheaply in China but are sold for much more than they are really worth to make that much more profit,” said an official with the organization who monitors and evaluates Qurans available in Iran.

The official even urged importers to halt future Quran shipments from China, the Times reported.

If you’re keeping score at home, China is accused of shipping out seafood laden with putrefying bacteria, toys laden with lead, totally fake eggs and, now, tainted Qurans.

Damn, I lost another post! I wrote 8 good paragraphs this morning, and they’re gone. I must be hitting the wrong button, and shouldn’t blog before my first two cups of coffee are working.

It was all about how I found out that this Tuesday bowling league I’m on is Shark Central, and how they deserve their black reputation and haven’t learned a thing since half the league quit in disgust a few years ago. Whatever. I needed to rant, and did so through my keyboard. Consider yourselves fortunate that all that vitriol went off into the digital ether somewhere.

But just for fun I think I will build a Shark-o-Meter into my little bowling spreadsheet tool, with settings from 0 to 11 reflecting top weighting the award money, the range from “happy shiny people” to “screw you, winner take all”. This league would probably rate about an 8 or a 9. Very sharky. We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

He really does lay out how to shut down any conversation on any subject the left doesn’t like.  You believe O. is bad news.  Can you imagine what it could be like under this shit faced phony?  Could be worse. And if not, then surely just as bad.  Anyway, read his claims and his solution.  btw ... a headline in another article quotes him as saying climate skeptics are ... “like racists.”

Note to Drew.  We really need to use that Loony Tune thing with bore’s face in the cntr. Thing is, I can’t work out how it’s done.

Climate change deniers will be despised just like racists one day, says Al Gore

Former Vice President Al Gore believes people who are sceptical about climate change will be seen in the same negative as racists in years to come.

In an interview that was broadcast on UStream on Friday, Mr Gore said that in order for climate change alarmists to succeed, they must ‘win the conversation’ against those who deny there is a crisis.

He told Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky: ‘I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me.

‘My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, “Whoa! How gross and evil is that?”

‘My generation asked old people, “Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?”

‘And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.’

Mr Gore recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.

‘Secondly, back to this phrase “win the conversation,”’ he continued.

‘There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with - you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally - but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural.

‘Then there came a time when people would say, “Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.”

That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.

‘We have to win the conversation on climate,’ Gore added.

muslim anger in new york amuse park sparks fight. they always find a reason.

They always manage to find a reason and if that fails, they’ll make one up.

Muslims with American accents?  Well this group is still vermin.
The usual chant of police brutality.  Hell, cops aren’t really brutal enough where these lice are concerned.

Since NY is some five hours behind us, I suppose you’ve already seen this back home. Or maybe not.
Theme park refuses certain rides to muzzie females (I guess they are and they appear to be human but then looks are deceiving) due to their head scarves.
So naturally that’s all these members of that cult need to start a fight. Toss in the ‘r’ word and the old standby, islamaphobia.
And all because printed rules don’t apply to them. Course not.

This was just perhaps a mini riot. But it took place in NY. That is still an American city. Isn’t it?  Won’t be for long you betcha.

A theme park was forced to shut its gates to visitors when a mass brawl broke out after Muslim women were banned from rides unless they removed their headscarves.

Two park rangers were injured and 15 people, including three women, were arrested in the scuffle at Rye Playland in New York yesterday. They have since been charged with disorderly conduct and assault.

Muslim visitors involved in the fight accused police of brutality and claimed they were treated ‘like animals’. One said: ‘It’s clear, this all happened because we’re Muslim.’

Right. The cops don’t see TV or read papers and are so insulated that they have no idea about the results of insulting or damning or abusing members of the rop. So they intentionally seek out this one group for discrimination and so did the park. Got it.  Poor,poor downtrodden muzzy filth. Gotta feel sorry for them.

‘[The guards] were beating down the girls, then they started beating down the guys as they came to their aid,’ Lola Ali, 16, of Queens, told the Journal News.

The incident started at around 2pm when the theme park was crowded with around 6,000 visitors. Roughly 3,000 were in a Muslim tour group celebrating a holiday at the end of Ramadan.

Trouble reportedly flared when women wearing Muslim hijab scarves tried to get on rides banning any head coverings.

The women were refused entry and offered refunds - but then male and female visitors started to argue among themselves, Westchester County officials said.

That apparently led to park guards stepping in, sparking the huge brawl. The park entrance was closed for two hours as the fighting escalated.

Ola Salem, 17, of Brooklyn, New York, was wearing a headscarf and said she was denied entry onto a ride with her eight-year-old sister.

‘They said no because my of my “headgear”,’ she told the New York Times. ‘I said: “It’s not my headgear, it’s my religion”.’

The Muslim American Society of New York had been ‘painstakingly’ advised of the rule many times before its tour took place, parks official Peter Tartaglia said.

He defended the policy against head coverings on rides for safety reasons and faulted the group for not ensuring visitors understood the policy.

Mr Tartaglia said the policy is for safety, as scarves can become entangled in mechanical parts, choke riders or fly off and land in a ride’s tracks.

‘We respect the religious purpose of wearing it, but we have several rides that you cannot go on with any sort of headgear,’ he said.

Dealing With Irene

We live up on a hill, about 60 feet above the rest of the town. All of our utility lines are underground. Thank God for that; we had no flooding, and only lost power for maybe half an hour, plus a dozen little 1 minute outages later on. Most folks in the state did not get off anywhere near as lightly.  Clinton’s iconic image is the old red mill, which sits on a mill pond by a dam right on the edge of downtown. The dam held, but for a while the waters came over the side of the pond. Here’s a link to a video of the flood running through our downtown Monday. It looks a bit worse than it is; downtown has nice tall curbs that kept most of the water in check.

Elsewhere around the state ...

The Rockaway River ate Rt 287 at Boonton. NJ has 4 major east-west highways: Rt 80, Rt78, the NJ Turnpike, and the Atlantic City Expressway. The Garden State Parkway runs north-south down the east side of the state. Rt 287 is a huge ring road that connects to NY Rt 17 and the Thruway at the north end and the Holland Tunnel and the Garden State Parkway at the south end. It’s pretty much a third of a giant circle that encloses the super-suburban area, and the center of the circle is New York City. Boonton is just north of where Rt 80 hits Rt 287. So maybe you can get there from here, but you can’t get back.

Rescuing the rescuers. The Manville fire department had to rescue some National Guard troops when rising waters overtook their trucks. That is not a river they are in, it’s Main St. Manville is about 35 miles south of Boonton on Rt 287. Manville isn’t far from Boundbrook, an inauspiciously named town that always floods. I’m sure they’re underwater still. So many of the state’s most populated areas are right next to Raritan Bay, which had big-time storm surge. And that’s where many of the rivers and streams wind up. Heck, geologically the whole area is called the Newark Basin. Duh.

If you lived in Joisey, your feet would probably be wet right now.

I think I’ll try and take the back way and the high roads up to bowling tonight. The main road crosses several streams and rivers, including the Musconetcong. It may not yet be passable. Duh, maybe I should call first and see if the alley even has power.

some news from those wonderful folk who gave the world pol. corrrectness

They keep saying immigrants and keep referring to multi culture. But in one place someone slips and says what really is the issue. You’ll never guess.

This is the Netherlands, the folks who who gave us pc. This is their future and perhaps all of Europe as well.  It’s their country and their lives and that’s the bottom line.  But someday in the future, all this kind hearted multi-culture we are the world shit will come back on em hard.  And while it’s a long way in the future for us, I fear America will go that way too.  Would it make any difference as long as all were Americans?  Yeah, maybe.  Cos there are too many who unlike immigrants of another generation, want to bring more then the cuisine of their homeland to the west.  Too many hardly speak the language of their host country. They have names they won’t westernize that consist of a series of letters none but the scholars of language can get a tongue around. Too many want the host country to be more like what they left behind, and cater to their idea of culture.  No matter that it’s foreign to the host country.

Some of the young girls, like the few interviewed, will find that the Mr. Nice Guy they married have different ideas about a woman’s place, they didn’t reveal in courtship.  And when the kids come and a problem arises, try and get those kiddies back from a muslim country where daddy has taken them. Far fetched? No. Not a bit of it, according to the horror stories that have been published here over the years.

I’ve said it before. I confess to being a dinosaur.  I’m aware I could be wrong on everything.  If not tho, there’s a bumpy road ahead as more and more Dutch (and other Eurowhites) continue to dilute their race and nationality with a stone age religion and culture.  Of course, there are also other examples but I’ll leave those for another time.  So far at least, they aren’t bringing home any Somalis.

Dutch parents: mixed attitudes to mixed relationships

Nearly half the parents of underage children in the Netherlands are not eager to have a son-in-law or daughter-in-law of immigrant origin, according to a recent poll. RNW asked teenagers whether they share that sentimen

In the poll published by popular pedagogical magazine J/M, 600 native Dutch parents specified how frequent their contacts with children of other ethnic groups are. The mothers and fathers were also asked how they prepared their children for life in a multicultural society.

Most parents said they thought it beneficial for their child to be raised in a multicultural environment. But 43 percent of parents said they would not like it if a daughter brought home a boyfriend from an immigrant community. An immigrant girlfriend for their sons would be hard to accept for 38 percent of parents.

lunch at the roebuck …. i think i found the one place to stay with

Had lunch at a really nice pub today.  Wife wanted to go and see if the new owners had really improved on the previous.
It was once very popular, reasonable prices and good food etc.  Then she said that the owners who were getting on in ears were tired and sold out.
The new owners changed the menu and tried to go in some kind of youth direction, which I guess is okay as long as you can maintain standards. Which apparently they didn’t because first of all, in spite of what it says here on their site, they aren’t exactly in the heart of the city. But they are close enough to walk to it.
Well, that set of new owners went bust as their customer base fell off.  They had other problems as well and word went out.  Another set of owners came in and they too went the way of the first.  So after being closed for some time, yet another set of people came in and WOW!
Wife said a few ppl told her about it and she was interested to see. In past years and now I’m referring to the original owners, she tells me she and her mom or other friends from the village, would meet there once a week.
Anyway .... had lunch here today and it was AWESOME!  They even lowered the music to a point where it really was background, without being asked. They did that as soon as the place started to fill, which it did within 10 or 15 minutes of us getting there.

Service could not possibly have been better or quicker. There was not a long wait for the food either, which was piping hot. Really,really looking forward to going back next week if not sooner. But next for sure.  I’d like to work my way down their menu but for one problem.  I tend to stay with the things I find that I enjoy.
However, I think I’ll make an exception here.  As the place started to fill, with btw an awful lot of very old people, I saw things like their Roebuck Cheeseburger and chips. Someone else had what looked like ham and eggs but the way it was served made me wish I’d ordered that as a side.
LOL.  Can you imagine ham & eggs as a side to what I had, which was,

The Roebuck is no more then approx. 10 minutes away from our front door. Wish they opened earlier and served breakfast. We were there at noon, when they open for lunch.

A green jobs program in one of America’s greenest cities is being called a bust 16 months after a $20 million federal grant to weatherize homes in Seattle ended up putting just 14 people to work in mostly administrative jobs and upgrading only three homes in the area.

“The jobs are not there,” Todd Myers, who wrote the book “Eco Fads,” told Fox News. “So we’re training people for jobs that don’t exist.”

Seattle is not alone. The Department of Energy has allocated $508 million to 41 states for its Better Buildings Neighborhood Program and 600 jobs have been created or retained.

One year into the three-year program, 9,000 homes have had energy audits and received some kind of upgrade. The goal is to weatherize 150,000 homes by 2013 and save consumers $65 million annually on energy bills.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn says it’s too early to declare the program a failure.

“We may have to adjust how we market it and the incentives we provide,” McGinn said. “Nobody has really cracked the green jobs code.”

Contractors who do the energy audits and home retrofits blame government for getting in the way. To be a participating business in Seattle, the contractor is required to pay workers $21 an hour with full benefits, including retirement pay. But according to several small business owners in the area, the prevailing wage for new workers who lay insulation is $12. per hour.

McGinn, however, insisted that allowing contractors to pay anything less than what the city has declared a ‘living wage’, amounts to a ‘race to the bottom’ for jobs.

But Myers and others say the biggest problem with the program is government is trying to create a market that consumers don’t want. The average homeowner in the U.S. pays about $2,000 a year for energy.

The weatherization upgrades are aimed at saving 15 percent on energy consumption. If the retrofit costs $10,000 even with all the government incentives, it will take over 30 years to pay off through lower energy bills.

“The problem is the policies the politicians choose, whether green jobs or retrofits, are based on appearance,” Myers said. “They choose things that look good, rather than what’s best for the environment.”

Among the other cities having trouble fulfilling the green jobs promise are Toledo, Kansas City and Phoenix. So far, those cities have created a combined 72 jobs with $65 million in grants.

Sign me up. Hell, sign us all up. BMEWS Insulation Services, going green for the long haul. And the long green.

blogger’s block

Tripoli is falling. The north east is washing away as flooded rivers cause havoc everywhere, especially in the unexpected places. Hurricane damage in Vermont? Oh please. But it’s true.

And I just can’t muster the gumption to write about it. Dunno why. Maybe I’m a bit under the weather. Maybe it’s the strange hours I’ve been keeping, trying to get my work in around this storm. Yesterday was a big screw up ... power was out, local roads closed all over the place due to being under water, etc. Today is a bit better, but I had to get up at 4am to go do the work I usually do on Sundays at 4pm. Messed up.

I’ve been at this for years now. I don’t think this is too big a bump in the road, but it’s a bump nonetheless.

If only Obama would do something truly stupid, I’d get incensed and write about it. I mean far stupider than usual. Not the regular day to day ineptness, or the endless rounds of golf, or the never ending vacations he and the family seem to go on. Is it possible that we’re running out of things for him to screw up? Oh I doubt that.

I did finish that spreadsheet I was working on. I reduced 26 tables each with 17 sections into two generic formulas. And then I made it pretty, and loaded it up with IF(ANDs and all kinds of data validation points. It felt ... almost like programming. Which I haven’t done in a decade. But it was nice to see that the brain cells were still there. So I turned a huge bunch of numbers into a very flexible tool. Neat, but of very niche use. Anybody know how to compile .xls files or turn them into Java apps? It would be a shame to have to rewrite the whole thing in actual code to stick it up online somewhere.

a site of possible interest to some.

I don’t know how much use some would get out of this download but it impressed me.  Of course, the technology of radio still impresses me.
Anyway, I saw a comment made in the reader’s tips section of WebUser Magazine in the March issue.  I keep these mags sometimes for a year or more and suddenly find something I missed or didn’t think I’d use when first seen.
It installs dozens of free programs with one click, the writer says. Everything is automatic, it skips bundled toolbars and junk so you get only the programs you want. It’s supposed to be a great time saver.  So naturally I have to try it.

WHOOPS!  When I first saw this it was listed as FREE software.  I have just found a $10 price tag for one year of use. So that I would guess, will eliminate interest.
But perhaps not all interest as it might be worth it to one or two.  Ten bucks isn’t much to make things lots easier, and the reviews are good but then of course they would be on their site.  So, I haven’t bought it yet.  But am still considering it.

I loathe the Arab Spring and almost everything about it, says Peter Hitchens

A few days ago writing in the Daily Mail, Peter Hutchens had this to say.

The official pretext, that we are ‘intervening to protect civilians’, is lying hogwash and should be laughed at every time it is used. In the past few days – according to reliable reports – Libya’s rebels have been guilty of indiscriminate shooting into civilian areas and the brutal and arbitrary arrests of suspected opponents.

And he had more to say on that subject such as:

We’re cheering on a football crowd with AK-47s, who could be worse than Gaddafi

The moment has come to admit that I loathe the Arab Spring and almost everything about it.

It looks to me pretty much like a football crowd armed with AK-47s and bazookas, with the added ingredient of Islamic militancy. Why am I expected to like it?
For we are all supposed to approve of it. Every media outlet, every politician, every church pulpit, treats it as an unmixed Good Thing.
Not me. I look at these wild characters in baseball caps and tracksuit bottoms blasting ammunition into the sky (often killing or injuring innocents far away, but they don’t care) and I am mainly thankful that they are a long way off.

I suppose it is possible that this lot will miraculously create a law-governed democracy with freedom of speech and conscience. But I somehow shan’t be surprised if they don’t.

Just because existing regimes are bad, it does not follow that their replacements will be any better. The world has known this since the French Revolution of 1789, when bliss and joy turned to mass murder and dictatorship in a matter of months.

Egypt’s upheaval has already begun to go bad. Libya’s has been plastered with danger signs from the start. The anti-Gaddafi rebels are an incompetent and fractious mess. They have already murdered one of their own leaders.

And – I think it very wrong that this aspect is played down so much – their victory would never have happened without Nato providing them with an air force, as it did for the equally suspect Kosovo Liberation Army in the early days of Blair.

Here are some problems for the cheerleaders of this event, most of them modern Left- liberals. The savage regimes that are now falling are the direct result of the destruction of the empires of Europe. America, which encouraged this, quietly hung on to its own large land empire. So did the USSR.

These campaigners for ‘colonial freedom’ argued – I recall them doing it – that it didn’t matter what sort of regimes arose when independence came. What mattered was that they would be free from us. That ‘freedom’ led directly to Colonel Gaddafi.

True, Europe’s empires were often violent and cruel, though ours was generally better than the others. And they were frequently corrupt, though again ours was cleaner than the others. But their misdeeds were petty set beside those of most of the newly ‘free’ countries of Africa and the Middle East.

Now it is the very same Left-liberals who are most set on using bombs and sanctions to overthrow the states they were so keen on. How strange that, more than half a century after the Suez bungle finished us as a Mediterranean power, British military force is now in action again in North Africa, bolstering a farcical yet sinister army in pick-up trucks whose aims we don’t even know.

Well, the fact is that NATO and I suppose to some possible degree the USA as well, is involved.
For Brits and Europeans (I make a distinction between them,) Libya is very close by and many folks are much worried that should full scale war on the scale of Iraq take place, Europe and the UK might be flooded with even more immigrants seeking asylum.  And we have all seen how ready to accept those folks the govts here have been in the past.  Never mind what the public thinks. The job of the public is to support what the govts. mandate. They don’t have to agree, they just have to pay for it.  So you can see the concern.

Meanwhile ..... having already spent I really don’t know how many millions in support of rebels or freedom fighters or whatever the heck they are,
and btw there are SAS ppl on the ground over there in support of anti Gadiffi forces, Brits have been told that in spite of their support,

comedy with suicide bombers to air close to 9/11

This won’t be the first time this clip has been posted here, and there are a lot more at YT. Just enter FOUR LIONS and away ya go.

The BBC will be airing a series of programs on 9/11 and the aftermath as the article will make clear. Starting with a comedy about bumbling would be terrorists.

Now then, this shows all signs of being a very funny movie. I haven’t seen a clip that wasn’t.

I think the Brits are masters at slapstick comedy.  You’d have to go back to silent film in America with Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton to find anything close.
It isn’t that Hollywood can’t and hasn’t produced some great stuff.  But somehow, for reasons I can’t explain, the Brits seem to shine in this field. I guess I’ve been exposed over years to enough to make the comparison. 
I have just managed to get myself way off the topic I intended.
Which is, I think the timing of this show sucks.  Pardon the expression but, take a look.

Channel 4 to show suicide bombing comedy Four Lions to mark tenth anniversary of September 11

Channel 4 is to spark outrage by airing a controversial comedy film about Muslim suicide bombers as part a season of programmes to mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

In a move set to shock TV viewers, the broadcaster is to show Four Lions, the 2010 film by Brass Eye comedian Chris Morris, just days before the memorials take place for the terrorist outrages in New York.

Insiders at the Channel 4 have revealed that Morris was looking to create even more controversy by trying to air the film on the actual day of the anniversary, but bosses at the channel have resisted this.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot.
