H/T AMERICAN THINKER
and special H/T to TheRealNCal
who posted this extraordinary link.

There are subtitles of course but listen to it as well because you get a true feeling of how very sick and damn tired some are of islam and multiculture.
More importantly ... I can’t think of one single politician in the USA or the UK, who would open up and say what voters are thinking and saying, and doing it with such honest passion.

You’ll want to share this.

Another muslim in the news and this one, a white American convert to Islam

Don’t understand how this is possible to go on. As well, I don’t understand why this traitorous bastard can’t be taken out.  Why is it that all our ppl on both side of the Atlantic can only, “monitor?” What’s with that?  Surly there must be lots of folks who would gladly volunteer to take this creep out. Gosh, there just has to be branches of our secret services that do wet work.  Is that term still in use?

If for whatever reason both USA and UK don’t have the heart for killing dangerous scum who have already said out loud that we’re all a target, then I’d like to suggest we develop a closer working relationship with the Russians, who have no qualms about it. And they are pros we’ve read here. Maybe even the Chinese.  It could be cheaper to pay those folks or work some kind of mutually beneficial deal, to rid us of the sub-humans like the subject of this article.
And then move on to WikiLeaks, the aclu, southern poverty law center, amnesty intl., the aclu again in case someone was missed on the first go round. Heck, there’s tons of left wing radical/muzzie loving civil rights groups that could be made ... neutral. Forever.  Oh if only.

Islamic website tied to MP’s stabbing resurfaces under new name

A radical US-based Islamic website shut down last month after allegedly helping to inspire the stabbing of a Labour MP has resurfaced with a new name.

By Philip Sherwell in New York and Jason Lewis

Younus Abdullah Muhammad, a founder of both sites, told The Daily Telegraph that IslamPolicy.com was the direct successor to RevolutionMuslim.com which was closed amid the furore over its role in the attack on Stephen Timms.

“IslamPolicy will continue with the work of RevolutionMuslim,” Mr Muhammad, a white American convert to Islam, said during an interview in which he called the Sept 11 terror attacks “justified violence”.

He continued: “If loving Muslims that fight and die to defend themselves from Western imperialism make the UK and US governments associate me or IslamPolicy with terrorists, then I am honoured to be so associated.”

counter-terrorism officials say that at least a third of the more than 50 domestic terror suspects arrested in America in the last year had ties to RevolutionMuslim, an English-language site aimed at Muslims in the West.

They trace its roots to a network of sites run by the now banned al-Muhajiroun group in Britain. “It is playing an important role in the export to the US of the British disease of home-grown terror by radicalised young Muslims,” a US official said.

Aaron Zelin, a US academic who follows pro-jihadi websites, says that the US-based RevolutionMuslim was being increasingly used by British extremists to skirt hate speech and incitement laws in the UK and promote groups with al-Muhajiroun links.

The site, which was hosted on an American Google server, was closed down last month after intense pressure from British and American security officials. But Mr Muhammad has now established IslamPolicy on a blogging site also operated by Google, calling it the new home for the closed site.

He has said that IslamPolicy will focus on ideology and education, but British and American counterterror experts are monitoring it closely for the sort of radical content that was a fixture of its predecessor.

Students (?) close store for a hour over tax breaks to business … idiots on the left on the march.

First ... Hello to Franklin,TN if still there.

OK ... things that make a rant.  Like the enclosed.

I had never heard of the Woodcraft Folks before today. In fact, I can’t even find the article I’m looking at now, on line. And I have tried a 100 ways to bring it up. But of course, it’s the Telegraph and I should be used to it by now. Unfortunately, I’m not.

Therefore, rather try and copy the article, I’ll just give you the idea.

You already know about the student protests that started over an increase in college tuition.  Naturally, protests also mean destroying property. It also means that anyone opposing the rabble are right wing Nazi Fascist war mongers or words to that affect.

Now another protest group is hot and bothered because some businesses are avoiding taxes. In the latest case, it’s TopShop where the peace loving young managed to shut the store down. Of course it never occurs to the peace and freedom loving students that they are be depriving people who want to shop, the freedom to do so. No surprise as the only freedom that counts with the left is their freedom to disrupt others from going about their own legal business.

Now then, nobody here at BMEWS I’m reasonably sure will give a thumbs up to tax cheats or those who act in a criminal way to dodge what they owe. However, the thing these schmucks on the left don’t seem to understand is, it’s the government that gives the go ahead on tax forms to avoid some taxes. And what business will volunteer to turn down any tax break they can get?  But no matter, carrying signs proclaiming their allegiance to Socialism, these twits are out on the streets in this cause as well.
Which brings me to a group called Woodcraft Folks. Who are, a left wing version of the Scouts.  Fancy that.

Now then, these socially aware left wing lunatics are encouraging kids as young as 11 to take part in these demonstrations.  Some schools have been found to even give kids time off for this exercise.  WF leader took a group of 13 to 15 year olds to last week’s London protest.
Oh btw … Woodcraft Folks is also govt. funded. How about that?

Here’s what one commenter had to say which shows not all Brits have lost it.

Before targeting businesses we should be focusing our attentions on the far more wasteful and wealth destructive government.
No-one has to shop at TopShop but we all have to hand over our money to the government. That government can give away £13 billion in foreign aid, givea way our EU rebate worth over £1 billion a year, create unnecessary regulations and bureaucracy costing tens of billions a year.
I don’t blame Phillip Green for looking after HIS wealth. He is only accountable to his customers who can go elsewhere. Our governments are rarely accountable.
We need to stop paying hundreds of billions in benefits (including extending the housing benefit racket for another 8 months) before demanding more of other peoples money.

Topshop forced to close in tax avoidance protest

Britain’s largest fashion store was forced to close as activists unruly left wing dupes carried out a series of protests against tax avoidance by big businesses.

By Michael Howie

Topshop’s flagship branch on London’s Oxford Street turned away customers on one of the busiest shopping days of the year as around 200 protesters took over the store.

Security staff removed a number of campaigners who chanted slogans directed at billionaire Topshop owner Sir Philip Green, whose business five years ago paid a £1.2 billion dividend to his wife, Tina, who resides in Monaco.

Sir Philip was this year appointed as an adviser to the Government on efficiency in the public sector.
The protest was organised by UK Uncut, which used social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to carry out a national day of action against stores owned by Sir Philip’s Arcadia Group, which also owns Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Evans and Miss Selfridge.

The protest group, as revealed in The Sunday Telegraph last month, was set up by Thom Costello, an Oxford graduate from south London who now works as a television researcher.

About 200 protesters inside the store began chanting slogans after whistles were blown at 11am, signalling the beginning of a long protest that forced the store to close for more than an hour.

Security staff and police officers bundled protesters and journalists, including Polly Toynbee, as a largely peaceful demonstration briefly threatened to turn violent.

One 62-year-old campaigner told how he was “pinned to the ground” by security staff after complaining that a young woman had been mistreated inside the store.

The campaigner, who only gave his name as John, said: “A young woman was grabbed around the neck so I complained. Several security guards jumped on me and I was pushed to the ground. I could hardly breath – it was terrifying.”

MORE HERE

A note ... Polly Toynbee is an extreme far left Marxist/Leninist/Trotsky loving wacko who thinks everyone who doesn’t agree with her view from the left must be Himmler himself. She is very quick to invoke the Nazi tag in every argument.

Doing It The Wrong Way

This looks like some major arm twisting to me. A kind of extortion, similar to Jesse Jackson’s actions against businesses. Or it is simple common sense?

image

Bow to my rainbow: plan for ships to be marked with emissions efficiency colors

Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson has declared war on the shipping industry with a new climate change initiative.

source

The Carbon War Room, an independent venture, wants to see an efficiency rating on every ocean going vessel to help clean up the industry. It is the first of many industries being targeted by the group who believe climate change can be solved through business rather than government summits. Ministers from 190 countries are into their second week of negotiations in Cancun, Mexico with no sign of a global deal.

Sir Richard told Sky News: “It is up to us business leaders to help those politicians deliver, they haven’t delivered so far, if they don’t deliver we can’t afford to wait. “It is up to us to get our house in order and make sure the world is safe for our children and our grandchildren.”

While shipping is a relatively clean mode of transport it accounts for over a billion tonnes of C02 a year - if it were a country it would be the world’s sixth biggest emitter. Carbon War Room believe the sector could be made at least 30% more efficient by upgrading and refitting ships. Their website http://www.shippingefficiency.org has catalogued 60,000 of the world’s ocean going vessels, with the cleanest rated ‘A’ and the worst polluters scoring ‘G’.

Peter Boyd, who is leading the project, explained: “You can go online and see an estimate of how clean or dirty the ship is. Whether you are an owner and you want to display that you are an A grade ship, whether you are a port or if you are a brand like Marks and Spencer or Sainsbury’s, you can start to pick your fleet depending on how efficient it is.”

A port? Is he trying to float the idea that certain ports would have certain emissions qualifications for entrance? “Sorry, only C grade ships or better here!”

The ratings are estimates but Carbon War Room believes there is only a one to two percent margin of error.

Industry experts welcome the move although they say it currently paints a very general picture.

Dr Simon Walmsley of WWF International told Sky News the ratings would provoke an industry reaction “and hopefully get them around the table to discuss how this can be a more accurate representation.”

“If that happens this will be fantastic, as these sort of rankings are very helpful for both customers and consumers.”

Right-o. So we’ve got a bunch of greenies here, or what? Or is it real? It shouldn’t be all that hard to figure out: ( mass of freight cargo hauled X distance traveled ) ÷ ( fuel used X weather factor ) = Efficiency Rating, and that rating implies a pollution level. Well, ceteris paribus. Which it never really is, because things are only equal in Economics 101. In the real world they never are.

One problem though: if you don’t factor in time, then sailboats will appear to be the big winners here. And if you do factor in time, you’ll soon see that the most gigantic ships are the most efficient ones, even though they pollute the most on a per ship basis. Not only that, but proper analysis will show that only 3 or 4 routes across the seas are the most efficient. And anyone who knows a bit about logistics will see the risks and problems with shipping One Big Order from point A to point B when you actually need 12 little orders to go to points C, D, E ... N. So secondary transport costs and warehousing have to figure into the equation to make it meaningful, and they never will (each company’s needs and locations are different). So this is a worthless metric. Sound and fury, signifying nothing.

On the third hand, no matter which way you slice it, this greenie rating will show that in terms of fuel efficiency and lower emissions, nuclear powered civilian owned cargo ships are the way to go. And that will blow their minds. Or cause them to argue for Obama and the One-Worlders to now take over the shipping industry.

But it does rather look like arm twisting to me: “government isn’t getting the job done, so we’ll turn to the market and let them solve it ... by publishing a list of ratings we dreamed up, causing a big ruckus and frightening dogs and little children, then we’ll twist the clean-air-guilt screws on retail businesses, then we’ll have a big meeting with all the shipping companies and see if we can’t figure out a way to make our ratings, you know, actually accurate.” Say what??

On the fourth hand, all of this is predicated on the belief that shipping customers could give a flying fart about the emissions generated by the ships they hire to bring in their cargoes. Seems to me that the only thing that matters to them is the volumetric time to cost ratio: I need a lot of my stuff and I need it right now = pay more, vs I’ll take a little and I can wait = pay less. I guess Branson thinks he’s going to run millions and millions of ad campaigns that say “Oh noes, the Dover Rover Cheese Company imported a barrel of rennet on a dirty boat! Don’t buy their products!” and that will actually have meaning? Oh please. After the 5th ad for the 3rd product for the boycott de jour NOBODY will pay it any attention whatsoever. And all any company will have to do is to bring in ONE load of stuff per year on the M/V Mr. Clean, and make an ad about it. The rest of the time they can explain away using the SS Dirty Birdy as “spreading the wealth around” to “developing third world economies” and get a total pass.

This is a dipshit idea Sir Richard. Now go wash your hair, you look like a greasy teenager.

cold and more on the way but gorebal warming expected to come to rescue soon.

Just a brief note and an outdated map.  Only by a couple days at most tho.

Went outside around 10:45 this morning, to get the car out of the garage.  It was the first time since coming here in April of ought four, that I have truly felt the cold to a degree I hadn’t experienced before.  Even the lock on the garage door was slightly frozen.  That hadn’t happened before either.

My computer sits at an old desk in front of a bay window. There is heat in the room from two sources but even so, legs feel frozen from toes to knees.
Time to put on thermals I think.

yikes

odds ‘n ends from a Sunday Night surfing session.

yikes!. What is he, about 90 by now? “Does grampy want his dim sum? Say ‘pwease’!” I mean, come on; look at picture #6. That’s cruelty to 25 year-old guys everywhere. Whenever she wants oral he has to apply fresh Dentu-Creme™ first. Eww. Ick.

Yikes! Well, yeah, isn’t this what we all said 3 years ago, and got beaten up in the press for? Shades of 1975 as well.

YIKES! Remember Tom Clancy’s Red Storm Rising? Like that, only with more death and fury. FULL-ON WAR, the kind we haven’t seen in 65 years. And they’ll keep at it for a month too, or until the first nuke pops. My guess is 5-15K casualties per side per day.

YIKES! When the Mustache of Truth® talks, you’d better listen:

This sustained, collective inaction exemplifies the Obama administration’s all-too-common attitude towards threats to America’s international interests. The president, unlike the long line of his predecessors since Franklin Roosevelt, simply does not put national security at the centre of his political priorities.
...
His secretary of state does not comprehend that America is the subject of the attack, his department of defence is not interested in defending us, and the president himself seems utterly indifferent to the whole affair.

Turning Ships Green

Catalytic Converters For Ships?

First Tanker Ever To Be Fitted With Dual Cats

image

M/T Olympus, a medium liquid chemical tanker, to get catalytic converters to reduce NOx emissions 90%

Preem’s time-chartered tanker Olympus, (IMO: 9310355, 125m X 18m, 8300dwt) owned by Sirius, will be fitted with catalytic converters and an exhaust gas boiler this winter to reduce NOx emissions and fuel consumption. The system has been developed by Gothenburg-based Göteborg Energi System AB, Gesab.
Both main and auxiliary engines will be fitted with catalytic converters and it is the catalytic converter shared by the auxiliary engines that will be combined with an exhaust gas boiler to reduce running hours and fuel consumption of the existing boilers. Noise levels will also be reduced.
”We will emit less than 2 gram NOx/KWh. The total investment is one million dollars”, Sirius Shipping’s MD Jonas Backman said to Shipgaz.
According to Preem and Sirius, The Olympus will be the first tanker in the world to reduce NOx-emissions by more than 90 percent by means of retrofits.

imageAn exhaust gas boiler doesn’t boil the exhaust gases. No, it is heated by them. It’s a secondary heat reclamation device that puts a high pressure radiator in the chimney to capture waste heat from the engine exhaust. Read about them or look at the pictures here and here.

So by capturing some of the waste heat from the exhaust they get more work out of the fuel they burn up. But ships run on oil. They are gigantic diesel powered devices. And now someone is going to put a catalytic converter on one? I didn’t think that anybody did that for diesels. Will cutting down on the nitrous oxides cut down on the smell? That would be nice. Can they do that for trucks too?  That would be awesome!

And I’m guessing there will now be a tertiary catalytic exhaust boiler installed as well. Particle filters too? I don’t know that either.

Use every last watt of heat energy if you can, and emit stone cold exhaust. In solid chunks, pressed into building blocks. Now that would be really green!

The First Mongrel in Afghanistan

Former President Bush surprised the troops and served turkey on Thanksgiving Day in Iraq. Remember?

The First Mongrel tried the same in Afghanistan. What was the holiday? December 7th comes to mind.

Yeah, GWB serves turkey to the troops. BHO is the turkey haranging the troops.

I’ve an eyewitness account:

We had a direct order to leave our work areas and march to the large hangar to attend.  It was packed.  I took a lot of vids and pics.

Note that they were ordered. Ordered to attend! My friend is a Colonel! Almost thirty years of service. Ordered to listen to this Kenyan!

Did any orders go out for GWB? I don’t recall such an order regarding GWB. I think he just showed up serving in the chow line. GWB was a servant of those he led.

My friend has promised vids and more photos.

Here’s one he sent:

image

Note: I did crop this photo. Otherwise we’d have a great look at the ceiling of this hanger. My friend is not a photographer.

The War Against Obamunism

I was really minding my own business; went to work, came home, paid some bills, then relaxed by watching a classic movie.

The movie was The Ten Commandments. Produced and directed in 1956 by Cecil B. DeMille.

It has been many years since I watched this classic. In fact, I didn’t remember the beginning that I’m posting now. I suspect it was never aired when I watched it on TV as a child.

Producer/Director Cecil B. DeMille says that the story of Moses is the Birth of Freedom.

Yes, I did the research. That is Cecil B. DeMille. He is also the narrator in the movie. Good job. He had a great voice.

Also, this was back when Hollywood made decent movies. They weren’t anti-American.

The extraordinary case, branded ‘the foreclosure from hell’ that started in ‘78

Will someone please explain this to me.  You owe money. Your responsibility is to pay it back. Period. End of story.
Isn’t that how it’s supposed to be?  You have a mortgage, you sign papers agreeing to pay back. Period again. How can judges and courts allow the obvious to go unnoticed?  Or is something missing from this article?

I know someone who has not made a mortgage payment in several years, claiming that she’s discovered that mortgages are illegal, or something like that. And she’s been fighting foreclosure and been successful so far.  I asked about the obligation to repay since papers were signed willingly enough at the time of the loan.
The answer is so complicated I didn’t understand it. Apparently there’s some sort of collusion between the banks and the govt. ????? Er..? somethin’ like that. I think.

Meet the great-grandmother who is every lender’s nightmare: The tireless woman who has fought off foreclosure for 25 years

By Daniel Bates

Patsy Campbell remembers well the last time she made a payment on her mortgage.
It was back on October - October 1985.

Since then the great-grandmother, 71, has constantly been under threat of foreclosure but by working the legal system she has fought off every attempt to kick her out.

Over 25 long years she has launched dozens of appeals, fought countless courtroom battles and seen off four different companies which owned the mortgage on the detached property in Okeechobee, Florida.

During that time all seven of her great-grandchildren were born, four presidents and three recessions and came and went, and two of her marriages have collapsed.

But still she still fights on, refusing to pay the $211,000 cost of the mortgage plus interest, which is now $8,000 more than the value of the property.

By representing herself she has also learned the legal system so well that any effort by a lender to to repossess her home is met by such a flurry of paperwork they can hardly cope.

‘They’re not going to take this house,’ Ms Campbell defiantly told the Wall St Journal. ‘I intend to stay in this house and maintain it as my residence until I die.’

The extraordinary case, branded ‘the foreclosure from hell’ by the mortgage’s current owner, began in 1978.

Ms Campbell’s husband-to-be Paul Campbell took out a $68,000 mortgage on the home in a middle-class neighbourhood of Okeechobee from local lenders First Federal Savings and Loan.

The pair married in 1980 and that year he died from emphysema.

Five years later Ms Campbell stopped paying the mortgage because she became ill and got behind on the payments, she told the Journal.

Then the letters started arriving demanding money - but she refused to pay.

Over the years the mortgage changed hands five times, and each time the loan company took her to court to pay it back, but she fought them off.

the rest is HERE

A notorious gangster has won the right to force prison officers to call him ‘Mr’.

This is the sort of thing that tries men’s souls. And the ladies too. And their tempers.

How does a man who led a criminal gang and ordered the killing of a couple for no other reason then they were related to someone who’d crossed him, how does he now seriously demand he be treated with respect by prison authorities?  He insists they call me mister. And he won.
Well why not?  Hell. For years now every time I’ve seen a police chief or spokesman for the police giving a statement, no matter the crime, they always refer to the mad dog rapist, killer, mugger as ... mister. Have you noticed that? It started years ago and I’m speaking of the USA although they do that here as well.
How’d that come about?

Alright, where proof hasn’t been established and police are at one point speaking to someone but no arrest made, fine.  But in cases where there’s absolute proof, where someone committed a crime in front of a lot of people, or where in some cases a killer actually waited to be arrested and gave up rather then be shot by the cops, doesn’t mister seem a bit too much?

Back to this story though.  The killer/gang leader here insists on respect and I asked how he could expect that. The answer of course is, he’s smart enough to understand how screwed up and pc the system is and so can demand almost anything and be assured authorities will cave in. It’s his human right don’t ya see.
He knows all about his rights you betcha.

There is a move underway, I have read, that would halve prison sentences if criminals admit guilt immediately and avoid long trials.
That’s the world today and my problem is I’ve grown naive in the extreme, cos I want a Norman Rockwell world. Or at least an America that reflects that. Sad though that it never really did.  Or did it?

Before I forget.
I think next week marks the anniversary of the death of John Lennon.
I liked the Beatles well enough. Not everything but I did like some. I was never a fan of Lennon (either one, Lennon or Lenin) and was usually bothered by the fact that the idiot was in my country with another foreigner, his ugly untalented Jap wife, demonstrating against our foreign policy as though they had a say in matters concerning my country.  Yes, everyone has a right to their opinion and I wouldn’t want to be the one with authority to silence anybody.
Except a foreigner in my country.  Wanna be critical? Do it from your country and stay out of mine.

The reason I brought up Lennon to begin with is, news, news.
Someone has written a book on the killing and says that Lennon wasn’t killed by Mark Chapman. Nope.
The CIA did it with cover up help from the FBI.  He’s serious.  So why would the CIA put a contract on poor stupid, drugged to the gills John Lennon?

His conclusion is that Lennon opposed the Viet Nam war and was a peace activist.

In a new book, author Phil Strongman claims that Chapman was a stooge. Lennon’s real assassin was the CIA — at the behest of Right-wing fanatics in the American political establishment.

Makes no sense.  If that was a reason kill him, then why not Jane Fonda? She committed treason. She gave aid and comfort to our enemy while our boys were were dying. Why not her?  Don’t know. The reviews of the book didn’t say and I am not gonna buy his book.  I guess I’ll just have to live with the idea that it was the right wing in America that did it. It’s always us. Innit?

btw ... Chapman will be asking for parole again in 2012.

cold but dry as more bad weather on the way …

Very cold still but much snow melted in our section. Not going out for sure till Monday, we hope.

Answer for Drew re. window casements. Yup. They’re iron, rusted through but in 1924 they were state of the art. Should have been replaced long ago.
Question. They’re supposed to keep rain out? Really? lol.  They bleed water this time of year and if wind is up you can feel it.

Going to try and do a large grocery shop in the hope that there’s still something to shop for. Can’t do anything till Mon. at the earliest. Dairy here delivers almost everything tho, so if their supplies are good there shouldn’t be anything to be concerned about.  It mostly folks in the north that really feel this. We’ve been lucky so far but not complacent.  Have heard that somewhere a lot of folks lost power for awhile. Now that’s scary.

The ultimate lock-in: Seven trapped in Yorkshire pub for last EIGHT days as forecasters warn Big Freeze will go on for at least another week

By Daily Mail Reporter

image

* Snow death toll up to seven, after two men killed in motorway crash
* Temperatures rise but ice and snow warnings remain
* Host of sporting fixtures called off in England, Scotland and Wales
* Government urges Britons not to panic buy
* Cash machines running out of money as snows hamper delivery vans
* Limits on truckers’ working hours relaxed to help transport of vital supplies
* Rail networks still facing delays

While thousands braved the cold to begin their Christmas shopping, seven people in North Yorkshire are praying for better weather after being snowed into a pub for eight days and counting.

Heavy snow showers and strong winds have left the group stuck in the Lion Inn pub in Blakey Ridge, Kirkbymoorside since last Friday, with little chance of an escape.

Drifts of up to 16ft blocked the inn’s doors and windows, with the surrounding roads impassable, and to make matters worse, the stranded seven’s cars are buried under nine foot of snow.

The group’s predicament in the fourth highest pub in England continues as forecasters warned Britons to expect icy conditions for at least another week, with temperatures falling as low as -10C in the South East of England overnight.

Katie Underwood, 18, who has been a waitress at the Lion Inn for four years, said: ‘It was really novel at first, and quite exciting.

‘The snow is immense. Most of the windows in here are blocked up, but we’ve got a door open at the back to get some air when we need to.’

oh the weather outside is frightful

Two pensioners ‘freeze to death’ after collapsing in their gardens as the Big Chill hits minus 20

By Sara Nelson

Two pensioners have been found dead in their gardens amid the freezing conditions.

William Wilson, 84, was found dead in his garden in Kirby Stephen, Cumbria, on Tuesday. It is not known how long he lay undetected.

The body of Lillian Jenkinson, 80, was discovered in her back garden in Workington, also in Cumbria, at 10.40am the next day.

Post-mortem examinations will be held to determine whether both of the pensioners froze to death in the sub-zero temperatures.

Today detectives said Mrs Jenkinson may have fallen in her garden and spent the night in freezing conditions before she was discovered.

Nasty Dirty Money

In 2017 you could have Michelle Obama in your pocket. On your money. And be glad of it too.

It’s coming. It will happen. It’s just a matter of whether you’ll buy any or not.

This will be legal tender, although the coins are really meant for investor bullion, so you’d be a fool to spend them ... but who knows what things will be like by then.

The only thing getting in the way ... I don’t know if it’s a law or just a practice, but the people featured on American money of any kind are no longer living. That could be why the current First Ladies coin release schedule stops in 2016 with Pat Nixon.

Meh. If I’m going to buy any small gold coins, I’ll hold out for the 2011 gold Medal of Honor coin.

In other Numismatic News, this coming year will be the first year that coins made from palladium will be issued by the US Mint. Palladium is that “other” valuable metal, along with gold, silver, and platinum. All we’re waiting for is for President Obama to sign the bill.

When the Act, numbered H.R. 6166, is signed into law as the President is expected to do within a week, the United States Mint family of American Eagle products will expand to include palladium coins along with the gold, silver and platinum coins that have been produced for years.

“I’m pleased that my legislation cleared the final hurdle and is now destined for the President’s desk,” Congressman Denny Rehberg said Wednesday. “This is a good bill for Montana that will empower the private sector to create good, well-paying jobs. As the price of gold skyrockets, Palladium provides investors with an option for an alternative precious metal.”

Palladium is generally about half the price of gold but more expensive than silver. The London Fix PM price on Wednesday for an ounce of the metal was $716.

The state Rehberg represents, Montana, is the only location in the United States where palladium is mined — at a site known as Stillwater Mine.

The face of the new one ounce “$25” palladium coin will look just like the old Mercury dime, only larger and in higher relief.

One Month, One Map

Via EagleSpeak, a map that shows Somali pirate activity for about a 35 day period.

Bright yellow pins are successful hijackings.
Dull yellow pins are unsuccessful hijackings.
Red pins are attacks.
Green pins are suspected mothership sightings.

I count 53 attacks, hijackings, and attempted hijackings. In just over a month.

Doesn’t look like the world’s navies are doing such a hot job. Piracy seems to be epidemic in a full quarter of the Indian Ocean. Perhaps they should change their strategy; protection and interdiction at sea are not effective, so how about blockading the coast? Nothing gets in, nothing gets more than 20 miles from shore.

That would require doing something, and putting all those expensive floating toys ever so slightly in harm’s way. Which is what a Navy is for, isn’t it?

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
