MAJULAH SINGAPURA ….. Forward Singapore and well done. You don’t want to mess with Singapore.

image

Got a problem with ppl overstaying their visa?  Keep an eye on SINGAPORE.  Gotta love em.  They take no crap from anyone.  The USA and the Brits could do worse then hiring these folks to look after our borders.  We aren’t, so somebody hasta.

MAJULAH SINGAPURA ..... (Forward Singapore)

Former American football player Kamari Charlton faces caning in Singapore

A former Florida State University football player may become the first American in 16 years to be caned in Singapore after he overstayed his visa, his lawyer said on Thursday.

Kamari Charlton was arrested on Sept 1 when he attempted to leave the city-state 169 days after his 90-day social visit pass expired, his lawyer M. Ravi said.

Mr Charlton, who was born in the Bahamas and owns a construction company there, was in Singapore while his wife received medical care for pregnancy complications, Mr Ravi said. It was not clear why Mr Charlton and his wife chose Singapore for medical treatment.

Staying in Singapore for more than 90 days after the end of a visa is punishable with a maximum jail term of six months and at least three cane strokes.

The Attorney General’s office declined to comment on the case. A judge is to meet with lawyers from both sides in a pretrial conference on Friday.

If found guilty, Mr Charlton would be the first American citizen caned in Singapore since 1994, when teenager Michael Fay was punished for vandalism.

Of course, not everyone is happy with how the people of Singapore run their own country.  For example, the asswipes in the civil rights industry aren’t happy. But screw those jerks.  They are the reason crime rates and the drug scourge has taken over so much of our country. But not Singapore.

The Southeast Asian country boasts one of the lowest violent crime rates and highest standards of living in the world, but human rights groups often criticise the government for severe punishments, such as a mandatory death penalty for drug traffickers

And they do not put up with things like this either. Good for Singapore.

Earlier this year, Oliver Fricker of Switzerland was sentenced to five months in jail and three cane strokes for breaking into a train depot with an accomplice and spray painting subway cars. Fricker later appealed his sentence and a judge added two months to his jail term.

People who are caned are strapped to a wooden frame and lashed across the bare buttocks with a long rattan stick.

meaningless marching orders for a thousand travellers … strife ahead ..

As if this country doesn’t have enough to deal with. Now this damn thing and yes. It’s pretty much the same old same old BUT, the press reports a new wrinkle today.
Can you believe it?  This has been brewing for ten long years.  Of course, the left leaning Labour party was in power all that time and I guess but don’t personally know, that creeps like Harperson contributed to this problem.  See?  This is what you have to look forward to in a far left socialist nanny state.

To make matters even worse, there’s a group calling themselves Wombles, who I have never heard of outside stories for kids.  Apparently this group while not gypsy/traveler, is just looking for an excuse to confront the state and things could get quite messy. They will support the gypsies they say. Oh boy. And to think, the authorities could have closed things down before the numbers got this high. And nobody here has the stomach for firepower. At least on the govt. side.

Fury as travellers living on Europe’s largest illegal camp leapfrog thousands of people on council house waiting list

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 3:43 PM on 22nd October 2010

Four travellers facing eviction from Europe’s largest illegal travellers’ camp have leap-frogged more than 4,500 people to go to the top of a housing list in Essex.

However, the residents of the controversial Crays Hill site near Billericay have turned down the properties on offer because they want caravan pitches instead of permanent housing.

The news that the four had been prioritised on the housing list was revealed at a hearing at Southend County Court and it will infuriate the local community.

EVICTION AND HOUSING

But the part to pay some close attention to is this.

Eviction of gypsy camp could cost the taxpayer £10million

By Daily Mail Reporter

Around 1,000 travellers have been given their marching orders while Essex police and the council draw up plans to evict them.

But hundreds of supporters have pledged to fight the eviction, and there are fears that the process could take two weeks and cost £10 million in police wages.
Essex Police has applied for extra government cash to pay for the eviction, as it anticipates violence flaring up at the sprawling site.

Gratton Puxon, a traveller campaigner, said: ‘Home Secretary Theresa May is being asked by Essex police to contribute up to £10 million to cover rising costs for the policing of Basildon’s ongoing plans to evict traveller families from the district.
‘No one has yet calculated how much further time and money would be wasted moving on those forced to camp on roadsides and parking lots.

‘Travellers have sworn to set up fresh camps on council land in the district.’

A police source told The Echo that the cost of an eviction would escalate if anti-capitalist groups like the Wombles joined the travellers to stand against the bulldozers.  There is intelligence of groups like the Wombles being involved, as they would relish a big fight against the state.’

Brand-new £1bn nuclear submarine on the rocks: Navy shame as Britain’s most deadly vessel runs aground

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 3:44 PM on 22nd October 2010

The Royal Navy’s newest and largest attack submarine has run aground during routine sea trials off the coast of Scotland.

In a severe embarrassment for the Royal Navy, the £1billion nuclear-powered HMS Astute became stuck on rocks near the Isle of Skye this morning.

Astute does not carry nuclear warheads but has a greater firepower than any previous attack sub making it Britain’s most deadly vessel.

making it Britain’s most deadly vessel.

Right, providing there’s no land nearby.

image

Hey. My first posting when I was in the Navy was on the USS Watts.  That ship used to run into other ships. At the dock. Sometimes we ran into the dock.
We tore a piece out of the Turner Joy.  Never forget that.  Of course, that was in the old days of sail. lol.

that’s supposed to read, 3.5 billion. that’s about 6 billion in dollars I think. haven’t checked rate of exchange.

time and lifestyle and bad habits do tend to catch up with one. darn good to have pots of money then

Just to show ya how mean a newspaper can be.  NOT for showing her as she really is. No.  But for implying that this is her idea.  How daft is that?
She is a famous and VERY wealthy model.  She gets paid big bucks for this.

It’s the advertisers who want this look. And who can blame them?  Think about it.  While no fan of her previous lifestyle with drugs and drink and God knows what else, I think it’s okay that a career isn’t over at 35, especially if you look bad.  Although of course that will raise the question then of, what chance do newcomers have.
My answer to that would be, every chance in the world if they have the looks and the talent.  I guess with modeling though it’s more looks and discipline. And youth will always be in demand.  I just wish the fashion industry would make better use of it with their creations.

Thank goodness for the world of tech and Photoshop and the airbrush.

Kate Moss turns back the clock with a little help from the airbrush in lingerie campaign

By Daily Mail Reporter

At the age of 36, it is not uncommon for a few wrinkles to appear on your face.

But Kate Moss seemingly wants us to believe that she has managed to maintain the perfect complexion and flawless figure that made her famous as a teenager.

The supermodel appears in a new campaign for Brazilian lingerie label Valisere looking a good decade younger than her years.

teacher too sexy say a few misfits ….

Well, seems some folks in Milan are either jealous or ugly or both. I see some humor in this altho I bet the teacher in question didn’t.

Some folks aren’t happy unless they can find something to make em miserable. Take a look.

Angry parents withdrew pupil from prestigious Milan school because teacher ‘was too sexy’

By Nick Pisa
Last updated at 3:10 PM on 21st October 2010

A former beauty queen has sparked fury among parents at an Italian school who claims she is too attractive to be a teacher.

Ileana Tacconelli, 28, who has three degrees, has caused a storm after it emerged she was a former model and racy photographs and video footage of her were posted on the internet.

As a result, one set of angry parents withdrew their daughter from the Catholic School in Milan.

imageimage
Miss Tacconelli, dubbed la maestra sexy in Italy, has three degrees and has worked at the San Carlo Catholic School in Milan for three years

But others - particularly fathers of students at the prestigious San Carlo Catholic High School - and the headteacher have stood by Miss Tacconelli.

The row erupted after one mother complained to the headteacher Father Aldo Geranzani claiming she was ‘too attractive and a distraction’.

Video of her acting in a comic sketch dressed in tight fitting hot pants and a bra then surfaced on the internet, as well as photographs of her posing in an American police uniform.

The former Miss Abruzzo - a beauty contest for a region of central Italy - was entered into the national contest but failed to win and went on to gain her teaching qualifications at university.

The story made the front page of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s family-owned newspaper, complete with an editorial explaining that the footage of her was more slapstick than soft porn as had been claimed.

Ran across this while looking up a bit for another post.

This rhymes and makes sense if you live somewhere in Peiper’s bit of England.

There was a young curate of Salisbury
Whose manners were halisbury-scalisbury.
He walked about Hampshire
Without any pampshire
Till the vicar compelled him to walisbury.

another great find …. this one’s for me and Drew but ur all welcome to join the club …..

Winchester is not that big a place, and I admit I don’t get out as much as I once did. Besides, it’s freezing cold at the moment.  Even so, if I knew where in Winchester this was, I’d be dragging myself out.  But where in Winchester?  The article appeared in the Telegraph, but not our weekly local newspaper which publishes on Thursday. Today. Judging by the photograph, they must have been working on this for awhile as it looks fairly clean.  WOW!  How do things last this long?  I’d love to know where this is exactly.  Tomorrow morning ... phones calls .... WOW!

Britain’s first hospital discovered

A site which may house Britain’s earliest known hospital has been uncovered by archaeologists.

image
The excavations have revealed a range of buildings and convincing evidence for a foundation in the 10th century

Radio carbon analysis at the former Leper Hospital at St Mary Magdalen in Winchester, Hampshire, has provided a date range of AD 960-1030 for a series of burials, many exhibiting evidence of leprosy, on the site.

A number of other artifacts, pits, and postholes also relate to the same time including what appears to be a large sunken structure underneath a medieval infirmary.

Before this new claim, most historians and archaeologists thought that hospitals in the Britain only dated from after the Norman conquest of 1066.

‘’This is an important archaeological development,’’ said Dr Simon Roffey from the University of Winchester which conducted the dig.

‘’Historically, it has always been assumed that hospitals were a post-conquest phenomena, the majority founded from the late 11th century onwards.

‘’However, our excavations have revealed a range of buildings and, more significantly, convincing evidence for a foundation in the 10th century.

‘’Our excavations at St Mary Magdalen offer an intriguing insight into a little known aspect of the history of both Winchester and England. It is undoubtedly a site of national importance.’’

Among the earliest known hospitals in the UK is Harbledown in Canterbury founded by Lanfranc in the 1070s, following the Norman Conquest.

Professor Nicholas Orme, a leading researcher on medieval hospitals, added: ‘’I have only studied the documentary evidence but I could not find any such evidence for a hospital before 1066 except perhaps as an activity within a monastery or minster.

‘’A late Anglo-Saxon hospital would surely be a first for archaeology and indeed for history.’’

Winchester was the capital of England throughout a large part of the Anglo-Saxon period and after the Norman Conquest. The capital was moved to London from the Hampshire city in the 12th century.

So juvenile of me

Me so bad.

I guess I’m having an anthropology/archeology kind of morning. After posting on that old door, I was going to post on Zahi Hawass’s latest find of a priest’s tomb at Giza that dates from the same time. Then I wanted to make some sort of snarky Atkin’s Diet post about how the latest research shows that cavemen had more carbs in their diet than we realized. But to do that post, I wanted to read the original article, not just the summation up at My Way News. So I followed the link over to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science to read the thing, and that’s where I lost it. No, not just because the article body was by subscription only. The name of the place. How can such a big bunch of smart folks come up with such a stupid acronym? Seriously, they call themselves PNAS. And the page highlights include “PNAS in the news”, “PNAS Profiles”, and “PNAS Media Selections”. Plus, for only $375 per year, you can have PNAS Magazine delivered to your door. If you don’t want to pay, you can just browse the highlights at their website, http://www.pnas.org/.

everything is sexist and if not that then it’s racist. life according to liberals and other idiots

Does anyone ever win a fight with their computer ?  Rats!
I guess the puter is okay, it’s the software. Right?

Alright, from the world of silly as usual. And some not so silly.
I don’t understand this place which is okay cos the wife doesn’t either and this is her homeland.

So on top of a computer that has decided it wants a fight, maddening enough , I read where 15 Italian immigrants (who apparently are well versed in Brit law) moved into someone’s house changing the locks etc.  All the owners belongings are inside, at least the squatters didn’t toss em out on the street, and it’ll be two weeks before the poor guy can get a court hearing.  The squatters say that since they can’t find work and have no place to live, they have right to be where they are. If they find work they say, they will pay rent.  Since this is a civil not a criminal case, the cops can do nothing.  The squatters claim that they saw the front door opened and an empty house. They also say it’s been empty for awhile and so they entered.  Oh surprise. The owner’s TV and PC and CDs are there and so lets make good use of those.
This alone is just one more good reason Americans have guns!

From the serious to the seriously silly which won’t surprise anyone as it comes from the far left, compliments of that hairbag from the previous govt., Harriet Harperson.

School meetings in evening ‘are sexist’, says equalities quango

By Luke Salkeld

Schools and local councils could be guilty of discrimination against women if they hold parents’ or public meetings in the evening because mothers might be at home putting their children to bed.
According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the timing of such events could mean some women are unable to attend – a disadvantage that exists because of their domestic duties.

The guidelines from the quango were in a code of practice explaining the new Equality Act, which was passed just before the election and championed by Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman.
It states a local council could be hit by a legal claim if, when it holds consultation meetings on a weekday evening, ‘it discovers fewer women than men attend’.
A woman could make a case on the basis ‘that this is because some women cannot come because of childcare responsibilities’.
‘This is enough to demonstrate disadvantage,’ it says. ‘She does not have to show the absence of women is attributable in particular cases to childcare responsibilities.’

Women would not have to show they have lost out financially, it adds.

Graham Stuart, Tory chairman of the Commons education committee, said: ‘It is extraordinarily idiotic when we need to be encouraging people to come together.
‘The last thing we need is to put the fear of God into people who want to hold a meeting in the evening.’

A commission spokesman said: ‘It’s sensible for a public body to think about who it wants to consult and what time of day those people might be available.’

Ok, I’ll play. Let’s all build a Giggle-JDAM to raise the hit ratio for these links. That means that they all float up higher on the Google search results, and on any other search engine as well.

So, what are they? A couple hundred articles and videos that are negative about various Democrat candidates. Assuming some undecided voter makes a small internet effort to find out about the people running in her district, she’ll enter the name in Giggle, and with any luck, these links will float up. Personally, I doubt if more than 1% of people who use Giggle for light research ever go past the 2nd page of results, so this might need to be a pretty big effort.

The thing is, this sorta has to be sub-rosa. Go ahead and copy the link list below the fold here, and post it 3 times. Check your post settings and back-date 2 of the copies. But don’t use the B-word. Or the G-word. That’s why when I wrote “Giggle-JDAM” I replaced “oog” with “igg”, “-bo” with “JD”, and “mb” with “AM”. Because we all know that a JDAM is one of those explosive devices dropped from airplanes.

John Hawkins at http://www.rightwingnews.com is behind this. He sent out a nice email with all the links, and a big FAQ. If you didn’t get one, just copy all the links and post them several times. Heck, you might want to even read a few of them, in case you needed a reminder of how much the D party sucks.

Besides, how often do you get to be a time traveler? I put this post up right now, on September 1 and August 23 and today. Makes me feel all paradoxical. And it makes me feel pretty juvenile, like sending on those chain letters. But I can live with that if it helps.

Post it thrice? Um, is there some of that subtle Heinlein “I tell you three times” influence here? Ooooooh, that makes uth all Gay Deceivers, doeshn’t it? LOL

Meet Me By The Bridge At 8

“Love Bridges” Encourage Monkey Shines

In Borneo

For Orangutans

Endangered orangutans on Borneo island are using fire hoses slung across rivers by humans to help them move around isolated forests to potentially meet new mates and boost the species’ chances for survival, an environmental group said Monday.

Malaysian authorities are building more of the makeshift bridges after some orangutans were spotted using them over the past year, said Marc Ancrenaz, co-founder of French-based conservation group Hutan, which is working with Malaysian state wildlife department officials on orangutan protection.

Conservationists estimate about 11,000 orangutans live in Malaysia’s Sabah state in Borneo, but many are isolated from each other because swaths of forest have been cut for development, logging and oil palm plantations.

Environmental groups and wildlife authorities have been hooking up old fire hoses strung together between trees on different sides of rivers to help orangutans - which cannot swim - swing or walk across them. The first bridge was set up seven years ago, but it was only last year that an orangutan was captured on camera using one of them.

Witnesses have seen others doing so since then, prompting officials to build more bridges.

Orangutans can’t swim? I didn’t know that. But it looks like these old hoses can help them to become better swingers.

Shut That Door!

5,000 Year Old Door Found by Lake Zurich

“Shut that door! Are you trying to heat the whole village?” may be one of mankind’s oldest Dad expressions.

image

Archaeologists in Zurich have unearthed a 5,000-year-old door that may be one of the oldest ever found in Europe.

The ancient poplar wood door is “solid and elegant” with well-preserved hinges and a “remarkable” design for holding the boards together, archaeologist Niels Bleicher said today.

Using tree rings to determine its age, Bleicher believes the door could have been made in 3,063BC, just as construction on Stonehenge began.

“The door is very remarkable because of the way the planks were held together,” he told the Associated Press.

Harsh climatic conditions at the time meant people had to build solid houses that would keep out much of the cold wind that blew across Lake Zurich, and the door would have helped, Bleicher said. “It’s a clever design that even looks good.”

From what I can tell, it looks like the boards were carved to look like they were woven around the metal strap that holds them together. I bet they have some kind of tongue and groove on the edges too. Guess those old neoliths weren’t quite so primitive after all ... this door is as old as the pyramids!
