Five freed terrorists sent back to prison after breaching parole. Imagine that would ya.

The terrorists broke their word and breached parole.  What a world when authorities can’t trust in the word of would be terrorists.

Wonder of wonders.

Well, this commenter put it better then I did and since it is his country ....

Insane. These people should be stripped of their British passports and placed in exile on one of our more remote islands in the South Atlantic and let them spend the rest of their days playing with the penguins. And the first idiot lawyer who decides to complain about their human rights being abused can accompany the first boatload.

- paul, loughborough uk, 01/10/2009

His voice is one of many but hey. Who’s listening to the public?  And if you read this article you can’t help but think as I did. It benefits the terrorist even if caught, to run up the cost of housing him in the manner laid out here. Think about it. There’s millions of these sub-species running around with a firm belief that their life means little outside of islam.  To sacrifice oneself in the name of jihad doesn’t always mean one has to die.  Maybe becoming a serious drain on western economies is jihad as well.

Serious stuff and it is war even if many don’t see that.  And we are fighting an enemy who has no rules but his own.  I think they’re waiting for the west to whip itself.  Doing a pretty good job of that so far.

Five freed terrorists sent back to prison after breaching parole

By Niall Firth

Five convicted terrorists released into the community have been returned to jail after breaching parole, it was revealed today.

Emergency recall powers were used to recapture the men who had breached conditions of their parole. One is even suspected of trying to buy a gun following his release.

The five have not been identified but are believed to have been recalled in the last few months.

The breaches are believed to include one man assaulting a police officer and another communicating with terror suspects he had been barred from contacting.

Earlier this month it was revealed that around 20 convicted terrorists had been freed after serving two-thirds of their sentences.

Another 75 are due to be released in the next three to four years.

Among them is al-Qaeda trained terrorist Sohail Qureshi.

The East London dental assistant was arrested in October 2006 at Heathrow Airport on the way to Afghanistan where he planned to attack British troops.

A fifth high risk offender, due to be released later this year will be placed in a hostel in the South East.

Police and probation staff fear they will be stretched to the limit by the release of almost 100 terrorists in the coming years.

A NANNY STATE UPDATE OF SORTS …. WORKING MOMS AND BABIES AND CHILD PROTECTION

Even where there’s no need but ... it’s now in the books. It’s da law.  It’s also pretty stupid as you will see when you read this.

Here a simple sample of the idiocy that is now, this sceptered isle.

DC is Detective Constable

DC Shepherd earns just over £16,000 a year for working part-time, with a take-home wage of £1,000 per month. Edie’s nursery fees are £487 a month.
“The irony is that the state is now having to pay most of my child care because I am a single mother on a low income who works part-time and eligible for working tax credit and 80 per cent of my child care costs. They pay me nearly £500 a month, whereas before they didn’t have to pay me anything.
“The government is trying to promote the return of mothers to work and doing this at the same time.”

Posted this story very recently.  But now the ladies involved are speaking and while some is a rehash, this still makes for a very interesting illustration of this doomed culture.  If you are not familiar with this latest nanny state case, by all means read on.

DC Shepherd and DC Jarrett: “It has been a horrible few months”
DC Leanne Shepherd and DC Lucy Jarrett had no idea that their reciprocal child-care arrangement was illegal – until Ofsted came knocking.
By Neil Tweedie
The Telegraph

The creeping invasion of the state into what was once the preserve of the family and the individual – the databases, the intrusive checks, the inevitably disastrous attempts by bureaucrats to engage in social engineering through the promiscuous use of shoddy legislation and lazily-devised “initiatives” – has become so much a feature of modern life that most of us no longer notice it. Until the day it comes knocking at the door.

For Detective Constable Leanne Shepherd, that day was Friday July 10 of this year when an official from the Office of Standards in Education (Ofsted) called at her home in Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire. A CID officer in Thames Valley Police, she was enjoying a day off with her daughter, Edie, just two-and-a-half years old, when the bell rang.

“She was really lovely, the Ofsted lady,” remembers DC Shepherd. “She said there was a report that I was child-minding illegally. When I asked her what she meant – was I committing a criminal offence or something - she said she wasn’t 100 per cent sure.”

DC Shepherd’s alleged “crime” – and even in the age of the nanny-state-gone-wild, this takes some beating – was to have embarked on an arrangement with her friend, colleague and job-sharing partner, DC Lucy Jarrett, by which they took turns to look after each other’s daughter during days off. It was, according to both women, a “perfect” arrangement that lasted more than two years and allowed them to pursue challenging careers part-time (they conduct investigations together), and spend sufficient time with their first-borns in the years when they needed their mothers most.
There was no rigid pattern to the arrangement – its virtue was its flexibility – but it was reciprocal: each woman received a benefit in the form of two, and occasionally more, days of free child care during most weeks of the year.

This supposedly violates the Childcare Act of 2006, which prohibits adults not registered as child-minders looking after other people’s children for more than two hours a day for reward – the reward being the free care.
Ofsted had been tipped off by someone who must have lived near to DC Shepherd’s house because the Ofsted woman talked of cars coming and going from her property.

“I was in shock the whole time,” remembers the police officer. “I couldn’t imagine I was doing something wrong – I thought I could clear it up if I told her everything. She talked about reciprocal care; I argued that it was an arrangement based on friendship.”
DC Shepherd pointed out that during her maternity leave she had looked after DC Jarrett’s daughter Amy, who is six months older than Edie, purely as an act of kindness. She had received no reciprocal child care at that time.

“She (the Ofsted official) said, ‘I’m just going to check’ and went out to her car to use the phone. She came back and said, ‘You are. You’re breaking the law’.
“Even when she left, I thought that there must be some mistake. I was angry that someone could complain about me – that someone could be so petty – and shocked that what we were doing could be wrong, and that I would have to change everything.”
Seventeen days later a letter arrived from Ofsted ordering DC Shepherd to stop minding Amy immediately, and warning her that she might be subject to surveillance and unannouced visits by Ofsted inspectors.

“I thought it was laughable that they would go the extreme of using surveillance when I was trying to live my life and do my job,” she says, still upset at her treatment.
DC Shepherd, 32, has been single since the end of her relationship with Edie’s father, also a police officer, in November last year. He remains supportive, but without DC Jarrett’s help there is no chance of Edie staying out at home while her mother is on duty, and she has had to be put into a nursery.

“Amy and Edie get on like sisters – they have grown up together. You would always hear them saying ‘you’re my best friend’, ‘I’m your best friend’. They are only-children, so it was nice for them to have each other around.
“Edie went to nursery today and cried her eyes out. It has happened too quickly for her. I haven’t been able to introduce her to it gently. She has still not settled properly – she barely eats there. She asks, ‘Can I see Amy today?’ A two-year-old is not going to understand.”

The enforced change has not only caused her daughter deep distress but has actually cost the government money.

THERE’S A LOT MORE RIGHT HERE AT THE SOURCE.

The betrayal of white working-class boys and the death of normal society.

This is one of the articles I was referring to in my last post. This is law (lack of) and disorder (LOTS of) in modern day England.
And the populous is UNARMED.

Now then, a natural supposition of those opposed to guns in homes is that, should they be that easy to come by then the bad guys will be just as well armed.  Well, that may be so but that argument misses the point that firstly, criminals are already armed for the most part.  People who advocate gun ownership have never to my knowledge suggested that ANYONE should be able to buy a gun merely by walking into your local grocery store.  Frankly, I don’t know how that would work out here in the UK if gun ownership was allowed. And how many people answer a knock at their door with a gun in their hand?  (ok, I once did but it was very late at night, beyond any expectation of nightly visitors and the outside light was not on. Turned out to be a songwriter friend from England visiting Nashville who decided to pay a surprise visit. ) Anyway people, the older ya get the more vulnerable one feels because, you are.  And btw, based on the things I have read about here, if we had access to guns, there’s no way that under some circumstances I would answer the door unarmed.

I’m not implying that this unfortunate mother would have had a gun even if allowed.  But in many other cases, I’m certain lives could have been saved had the victims been well armed.  The punks and street rats are perfectly willing and proud to use violence.  And why the hell not?  There isn’t anyone or anything in place that they’re afraid of.  They have little if anything to lose. Or at least, nothing they place much value on.
Except of course their own lives and their own well being. But unless that’s threatened in some way, they own the streets.

33 separate complaints to the police

By Harriet Sergeant
October 1st, 2009

Already we are beginning to forget the horror of the story of Fiona Pilkington and her 18-year-old daughter Francecca.

We heard this week how bullying neighbours tormented them for ten years, finally driving Fiona to burn herself and Francecca, who had a mental age of four, to death.

What made matters so much worse was that she made 33 separate complaints to the police - yet was all but ignored.
Simmons family

How bitterly ironic it is that the police are now visiting her street in huge numbers, providing protection to the Simmons family who allegedly helped drive Fiona Pilkington to such a desperate act.

What scant consolation it must be for Fiona’s grieving relatives that her death has at last stirred the police into action.

I will never forget that photograph of the Simmons family. There is nothing particularly wicked about them. And that’s the horror. The four sons are smiling, relaxed, leaning affectionately against each other and their father. Their clothes are clean. They are posing, for goodness sake, in front of flowered wall paper.

Yet this is the family who allegedly tormented a woman to such horrific extremes after enduring a decade of terror.

I have spent the last ten months interviewing teenage boys in poor neighbourhoods. The Simmons boys are no worse, and even a lot better, than many of those I met. Like a lot of adolescent boys they did the reprehensible because it was fun - and because they could.

As one of the boys chillingly told Fiona Pilkington’s 72-year-old mother: ‘We can do anything we like to you and you can’t do anything about it.’

In any normal society those boys would have been pulled up short - by their parents, by neighbours, by the police, by pillars of the local community - the first time they threw an egg at the Pilkington household.

BUT WE NO LONGER LIVE IN A NORMAL SOCIETY. No one censured them, so they were able to continue their reign of terror in Barwell in Hinckley, Leicestershire, for up to a decade.

The sorry truth is we live in the twilight years of a social experiment that has failed. The Pilkington family has paid the worst possible price for that failure.

In the caring, sharing culture of our social services, one fact gets forgotten. In order to protect the vulnerable, you have to take a stand. But our Government and our institutions are uncomfortable at exercising authority. And in the vacuum that this creates, bullies like the Simmons family move in.

As one policeman remarked to me: ‘Sometimes it’s not enough to be all pink and fluffy. You’ve got to be nasty sometimes. You’ve got to be getting stuck in there.’

The failure to get ‘stuck in’ by social services, schools and the police means they have the blood of people like Fiona Pilkington and her daughter on their hands.
Fiona Pilkington and her daughter

Failed: Fiona Pilkington and her daughter were let down by the authorities

Take the local community. In the old days, a neighbour would have seized boys urinating against a house and clipped them around the ear - or worse. Now what happens when a grown-up tells off a gang of youths? Those community-minded individuals risk getting stabbed or beaten or are themselves arrested by the police.

The Pilkingtons’s neighbours complained. ‘We tried our best to stop what was going on,’ they said. They contacted the police and council. ‘But our pleas fell on deaf ears.’ Our local communities have been totally emasculated.

What about schools? What role did they play in socialising and directing the youths in Barwell? White working class boys like the Simmons brothers do worse at school than any other group. At 14, 65 per cent of them have a reading age of seven or below.

Schools today appear incapable of exercising the discipline and moral authority so clearly needed by teenage boys. In fact one of the Simmons brothers, Alex, boasted he has twice been expelled from school for ‘fighting with teachers’.

So what kind of punishment can a school inflict? They can hold a boy in at break time or, of course, with the appropriate procedure and letters to the parent, after school for a few hours. None of the boys I interviewed looked on that as a life-changing experience.

When authority is ineffectual, bullies flourish. When one mother at a North Yorkshire school complained her son was being persecuted by a group of boys, his headmistress replied: ‘There is nothing I can do about bullying.’ At least she was honest.

Indeed in the topsy-turvy world of our ineffectual institutions, victims of bullying often find themselves cast as the villain simply for demanding justice. Many parents told me that if their child complained, they were the ones who suffered and were forced to withdraw the complaint or even move school - not their tormentors.

Normally on a story this long I’d edit and provide a link. But not this time. The whole article is here and continued below.

New Sickles Biography

An Archetypal Old School Democrat?

Gosh, the more things change!

image

That morning, Meade ordered Sickles to anchor the left end of Cemetery Ridge which included Little Round Top. Meade and the Union high command were centering their line on Cemetery Hill (the hook in the fish hook), but were concerned that their flanks were vulnerable. For that reason, it was Hancock on the evening of July 1 who had ordered part of Henry Slocum’s 12th Corps to occupy Little Round Top. The morning of July 2, Meade wanted the 12th Corps reunited on the Federal right at Culp’s Hill. So he ordered Sickles to take the position occupied by the 12th Corps and hold down the left end of Cemetery Ridge, including Little Round Top. Meade sent his son and aide, Captain George Meade, out to ensure that Sickles was in position. But Sickles would not come out of his tent to talk to George Jr. and instead had the Third Corps artillery chief tell Captain Meade that Sickles was confused over his position. Trouble was brewing on the Federal left.

Sickles made several efforts to communicate his uncertainty.  At 11:00, Sickles went to Meade’s headquarters and requests assistance in posting his troops. Meade declined to go, but gave Henry Hunt permission to accompany Sickles on a review of the terrain. Meade later claimed that he had absolutely no idea that Sickles harbored doubts about his position. Sickles then informed Hunt that he wanted to move his corps forward to a line that is, at its peak, was nearly ½ mile in front of Cemetery Ridge, running from Devils Den to the Peach Orchard and Emmitsburg Road.

The primary disadvantage of Sickles’ position was that the Third Corps was too far in advance of Meade’s army to receive support. Meade’s reinforcements had to cover ½ mile of open ground and Sickles negated Meade’s interior lines. The essentially straight line along Cemetery Ridge, which Meade intended Sickles to occupy, was approximately 1,600 yards in length. Sickles’s Third Corps had roughly 10,675 effectives and he would later claim that he lacked sufficient strength to man Meade’s front. Yet the new position covered a front that was nearly twice as long; approximately 3,500 yards. Despite his efforts to refuse them, his flanks were in the air.

One of the biggest criticisms directed at Sickles was that by moving forward he abandoned Little Round Top--- viewed by many as the key to the Union left because it was the highest defensible point in the immediate vicinity. Not a problem for Sickles because over the next 50 years he would repeatedly lie and say that he did occupy Little Round Top and supervised the placement of reinforcements up there!

Historian James Hessler has a new book out, the first new biography on Dan Sickles in over 50 years. Love the title too; it’s so 19th century:

Sickles at Gettysburg

The Controversial Civil War General Who Committed Murder, Abandoned Little Round Top, and Declared Himself the Hero of Gettysburg

Signed hardcover copies may be ordered from the author’s page, here, for $34.75 delivered, or from Amazon for $21.75. You can get it from the publisher too, for the full price of $32.95 + S&H.

Sickles at Gettysburg: The Controversial Civil War General Who Committed Murder, Abandoned Little Round Top, and Declared Himself the Hero of Gettysburg, by licensed battlefield guide James Hessler, is the most deeply-researched, full-length biography to appear on this remarkable American icon. And it is long overdue.

No individual who fought at Gettysburg was more controversial, both personally and professionally, than Major General Daniel E. Sickles. By 1863, Sickles was notorious as a disgraced former Congressman who murdered his wife’s lover on the streets of Washington and used America’s first temporary insanity defense to escape justice. With his political career in ruins, Sickles used his connections with President Lincoln to obtain a prominent command in the Army of the Potomac’s Third Corps-despite having no military experience. At Gettysburg, he openly disobeyed orders in one of the most controversial decisions in military history.

No single action dictated the battlefield strategies of George Meade and Robert E. Lee more than Sickles’ unauthorized advance to the Peach Orchard, and the mythic defense of Little Round Top might have occurred quite differently were it not for General Sickles. Fighting heroically, Sickles lost his leg on the field and thereafter worked to remove General Meade from command of the army. Sickles spent the remainder of his checkered life declaring himself the true hero of Gettysburg.

Although he nearly lost the battle, Sickles was one of the earliest guardians of the battlefield when he returned to Congress, created Gettysburg National Military Park, and helped preserve the field for future generations. But Dan Sickles was never far from scandal. He was eventually removed from the New York Monument Commission and nearly went to jail for misappropriation of funds.

Hessler’s book is a balanced and entertaining account of Sickles’ colorful life. Civil War enthusiasts who want to understand General Sickles’ scandalous life, Gettysburg’s battlefield strategies, the in-fighting within the Army of the Potomac, and the development of today’s National Park will find Sickles at Gettysburg a must-read.

This looks like a great read. And an excellent gift for anyone interested in military history.

OLDER SEMI-DISABLED LADY PRODS PUNK IN CHEST FOR THROWING ROCKS. GOES TO COURT CHARGED

Yeah you have it.  She’s charged with assault.  Not surprised at all.
In a recent article on “youth crime” in this country, kids are quoted as bragging that they can do as they please. And .. “You can’t do nofin.”
And they’re right about that.

The biggest story making the news this past week, is the death by suicide of a mother and her teen daughter whose mental capacity was age three.
The mom had endured (hard to believe if we haven’t experienced it) 10 years of abuse by street punks and mostly from one family. They set fires to the fence, stuffed firecrackers through the mail slot in her door, attacked her 19 yr old son with a pipe.  The list is almost endless. She kept a diary but here’s the really sad part, suicide and murder aside,

SHE HAD NOTIFIED THE POLICE THIRTY THREE (33) TIMES ABOUT ATTACKS AND ABUSE OVER TEN YEARS.

Impossible for us to understand how she could have put up with it for so damn long.  She was a single mom (divorced? don’t know) and was struggling and in her final notes said she just could not take any more. She’d reached her limit.  So, she got in her car with the daughter, doused them and car with gas and lit it.
Well, finally after their deaths and the story hit the front pages of ALL the papers and radio and TV News ... apparently some people sent threats to the family most responsible.  Guess what?

THE FAMILY FROM HELL NOW HAS POLICE PROTECTION DUE TO THOSE THREATS!

So now that awful story brings me to this article which just shows you as if you didn’t already know.
It’s the vermin who run things here. It’s the vermin and their hand wringing bleeding heart enablers who call the shots.
It’s all crap!  It’s a totally failed culture.  Bring back the death penalty and ENFORCE it. Use it. They need to take their streets and neighborhoods back street by street and send the message that loud and clear that all this human and civil rights shit is at an end where the punks and skunks are concerned.
BUT THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ........

Disabled pensioner who prodded stone-throwing hoodie in the chest is prosecuted for ASSAULT

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 4:32 PM on 01st October 2009

Renate Bowling, 71, who uses a walking frame, pleaded guilty to assault after prodding a teenager in the chest for throwing stones at her windows

A disabled pensioner who survived World War Two and escaped the tyranny of East Germany over the Berlin Wall has been prosecuted - for prodding a teenage hoodie in the chest.

Widow Renate Bowling, 71, who uses a walking frame, had confronted the 17-year-old after stones were thrown at her house. She had acted after youths had made her life a ‘misery’ and acted ‘inappropriately’.

Today, the pensioner pleaded guilty to assault and was ordered to pay £50 court costs and given a six-month conditional discharged.

The German-born grandmother came to England after falling in love and marrying a British Army Staff Sergeant from the Royal Engineers, Blackpool Magistrates Court, Lancashire, was told.

Originally, she had intended to plead not guilty and fight the case, believing she was the victim. But after long deliberations between the Crown Prosecution Service and her defence, Mrs Bowling, of Thornton-Cleveleys, near Blackpool, admitted the charge.

Nigel Beeson, defending, said: ‘This is a very sad case for all concerned - a 71-year-old granny charged with assaulting a 17-year-old boy.

‘I have dealt with many cases when it was a 17-year-old charged with assaulting a pensioner.

‘This lady is 71 years old and has survived World War Two and survived escaping from East Germany.

‘And in her streets she says there are certain individual youths who have been acting towards her in what she sees as an inappropriate way.

‘On May 12 she says that stones were thrown at her windows. She went off in pursuit of the person responsible to give him a piece of her mind.

‘When she got to him she addressed him frankly.

‘It was a prod there were no injuries. That is the best the prosecution can apportion.

EU SAYS GEORGIA STARTED WAR WITH RUSSIA BUT, AND JAPAN HAS MEIN KAMPF COMIC BOOK

A couple of interesting News Briefs caught my eye.  One I understand, Mein Kampf.  One I don’t.

I suppose using a comic book to teach history isn’t new. For some, it might be the only way or at least the easiest way, to learn a subject.
So ok. Mein Kampf the comic book could be seen as instructional.

Sales of a comic version of Adolf Hitler’s notorious political tract Mein Kampf have become a hit in Japan.
By Danielle Demetriou in Tokyo

image

The manga book describes both Hitler’s autobiography and his infamous Nazi manifesto in the unlikely form of easy-to-read comic pictures and captions.
Since it was published in Japan last November, its popularity has soared, with sales of more than 45,000.

The book, which forms part of a series on world classics turned into manga, covers a range of aspects of Hitler’s life, from his childhood to the formation of his political party.

Its success in Japan has reportedly ignited a debate in Germany about whether the ban on the work imposed since 1945 should be overturned.
The current copyright of the book within Germany lies in the hands of the finance ministry of the state of Bavaria which will not reproduce it out of respect to the relatives of those who suffered during Hitler’s regime.

Japanese publishers East Press are no strangers to tapping into the trend of bringing political tracts into the 21st century: the current series also includes a popular manga version of Karl Marx’s seminal anti-capitalist tome Das Kapital.

Manga enjoys a soaring popularity in Japan, with its most high-profile fans including the former prime minister Taro Aso.

Along with Nazism and anti-capitalism, there are few topics that are regarded as sacred from being transformed into manga. Previous issues tackled range from delicate Japanese-Chinese relations to the spread of bird flu.|

Here’s just a brief overview. See the link for all of it.  One of the reasons I even bothered about it to begin with, was because the EU seems to be giving with one hand and taking with another.

If as the EU says, and they do say, that Georgia started the war with Russia, then how can they be critical of the Russians who the EU says were attacked, for invading Georgia?  Well that’s what they’re saying.  In other words, do not in any circumstances defend yourself.  ?? Oh wait. I just got it. Silly me.

Maybe what the EU was waiting for, was for the Russians to issue an Anti Social Behavior Order (ASBO) on the Georgians. Of course. That’s it.

EU blames Georgia for starting war with Russia

Georgia “illegally” started last year’s war with Russia but Moscow then “violated” international law by invading its neighbour in response to the attack, a European Union report has found.

By Bruno Waterfield
Published: 4:17PM BST 30 Sep 2009

An EU investigation into the roots of last August’s conflict has reserved its harshest criticism for Georgia’s military assault on the breakaway region of South Ossetia and its capital Tskhinvali.

“Open hostilities began with a large-scale Georgian military operation against the town of Tskhinvali and the surrounding areas, launched in the night of 7 to 8 August 2008, the report concluded.

“There is the question of whether the use of force by Georgia in South Ossetia was justifiable under international law. It was not.”

THE FARMER’S DAUGHTER GRABBED THE GUN, SHOOTS ONE TERRORIST DEAD, WOUNDS ANOTHER.

Yesterday’s story but I was off all day. So it’s good to start the posting day with something nice.  But I promise, it’ll get bad before I’m through.

Anyway, I guess this is one farmer’s daughter who nobody will use as a crude joke source.
Kudos to her.

Farmer’s daughter disarms terrorist and shoots him dead with AK47

An Indian farmer’s daughter disarmed a terrorist leader who broke into her home, attacked him with an axe and shot him dead with his own gun.

By Dean Nelson in New Delhi
29 Sep 2009

Rukhsana Kausar, 21, was with her parents and brother in Jammu and Kashmir when three gunmen, believed to be Pakistani militants, forced their way in and demanded food and beds for the night.

Their house in Shahdra Sharief, Rajouri district, is about 20 miles from the ceasefire line between Indian and Pakistani forces.

It is close to dense forests known as hiding places for fighters from the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, which carried out the Mumbai terrorist attack last November.

Militants often demand food and lodging in nearby villages.

When they forced their way into Miss Kausar’s home, her father Noor Mohammad refused their demands and was attacked.

His daughter was hiding under a bed when she heard him crying as the gunmen thrashed him with sticks. According to police, she ran towards her father’s attacker and struck him with an axe. As he collapsed, she snatched his AK47 and shot him dead.

She also shot and wounded another militant as he made his escape.

Police have hailed the woman’s bravery.

They said she would be nominated for the president’s gallantry award.

She may also receive a £4,000 reward if, as police believe, the dead terrorist is confirmed as Uzafa Shah, a wanted Pakistani LeT commander who had been active in the area for the past four years.

Supt Shafqat Watali said Miss Kausar’s reaction was “a rude shock” for the militants. “Normally they get king-like treatment but this was totally unexpected,” he said.

Miss Kausar said she had never fired an assault rifle before but had seen it in films and could not stand by while her father was being hurt. “I couldn’t bear my father’s humiliation. If I’d failed to kill him, they would have killed us,” she said.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
