Minister’s ‘tax dodge’: MP avoided paying £1.5m bill on sale of ‘main home’.

Yeah. Meanwhile the rest of us have to pay up and pay when told or else.image And no damn excuses either.  And I sure do not believe his lawyer. Anyway, point is that these folks get away easy with things the rest of the little ppl would be put away for.

Millionaire Cabinet minister Shaun Woodward has been accused of avoiding £1.5million in capital gains tax by simultaneously claiming that two properties were his ‘main residence’.

In 2003 the Northern Ireland Secretary - the only Cabinet member with his own butler - made a £3.7million profit when he sold his central London townhouse to the singer Sting.

By telling the taxman that the property was his main residence, he avoided paying capital gains tax of 40 per cent on the sale, a saving of almost £1.5million.

Two years earlier he had told the Commons Fees Office that he, his wife and four children lived in Sarsden House, a mansion set in 458 acres in rural Oxfordshire near where his children went to school.

All published parliamentary records at the time of the townhouse sale suggest he lived in Oxfordshire rather than London.

Mr Woodward, 50, has categorically denied deliberately ‘flipping’ his main home designation in order to avoid capital gains tax.

Yesterday, however, he failed to clarify whether, in 2003, he declared two different ‘main residences’, one to the Commons authorities and another to the taxman.

‘Flipping’ is the now-condemned practice of MPs changing which home they designate their main residence in order to avoid tax and benefit from generous parliamentary second home allowances.

Mr Woodward bought his Georgian townhouse in Westminster in 1997 for £2million and sold it to Sting in 2003 for £5.7million.

Capital gains tax normally applies to any profit made on the sale of a second home and Mr Woodward would have been expected to pay 40 per cent on the £3.7million profit.

However, by saying the home was his main residence, he avoided the tax.

Further evidence that he actually lived in Oxfordshire was provided when Mr Woodward sold Sarsden House in 2006 for £24million.

At the time his spokesman said: ‘They have enjoyed family life there but feel it is now time to move on.’

Mr Woodward, MP for St Helens South, is married to Camilla Sainsbury of the supermarket dynasty and is said to be worth £15million.

His lawyer John Rosenheim said that in 2003 the MP was living ‘between the two properties’ in Oxfordshire and Westminster.

Asked which was designated as his main home, he said: ‘He hasn’t got the records from 2003 and neither does the Fees Office.’

Mr Rosenheim pointed out that far from avoiding capital gains tax, Mr Woodward’s claim that he lived in London meant he ended up paying more in tax when he eventually sold his Oxfordshire mansion.

He denied that the MP either ‘flipped’ his home or ‘took steps to avoid CGT’.

He said Mr Woodward has ‘complied both with the letter and spirit of the law and regulations pertaining both to tax and the Additional Costs Allowance’.

Family barricaded in driveway every week for a YEAR in feud with bullying binmen. OR …

HOW THINGS WORK IN THE UK. OR DON’T AS THE CASE MAY BE.

This story is a good example of why guns are good!
First time maybe it’s funny.  After that, all bets are off and then claim “diminished responsibility.”
Works like a charm every time.
Be a good lesson for binmen to learn what health and safety REALLY can mean.

Family barricaded in driveway every week for a YEAR in feud with bullying binmen

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 12:38 PM on 09th June 2009

When Emma Harper made a complaint to the council about a black wheelie bin being left on her step, she simply assumed her comments would be dealt with in the usual manner.

Instead, her family has been subjected to a year-long campaign of bullying from binmen who now barricade them into their driveway every week with up to 15 of their neighbours’ bins.

image

The feud erupted last June when Emma Harper, 35, complained to a council worker after she almost tripped over a black wheelie bin which had been left on her doorstep.

But she was stunned when, the following week, a row of ten large black wheelie bins were lined at the bottom of her drive, blocking her in.

The bullying tactics have continued every week, with up to 15 bins stacked side-by-side at the end of the driveway outside their semi-detached house in Coventry.

Emma, a secondary school teacher, has now reached ‘breaking point’ after binmen cited health and safety reasons for leaving the bins outside her house.

She said: ‘The first week it happened we could see the funny side of it but we didn’t expect it continue.

‘We dread waking up on collection day to find we’ve been targeted yet again by these arrogant binmen.

‘I know it’s not a life-threatening issue, but it takes a while to move the bins each morning which can make me late for work.

‘The binmen say they aren’t allowed to touch the bins because it’s somebody else’s job - but they’re being paid with my council tax.

‘One even swaggered up to me and said it was against health and safety procedure to move them - I was amazed.

‘I’ve reached breaking point and something has to be done to sort this out. We’re being treated appallingly.’

Every Wednesday night Emma places her two bins - one for recycling and another for domestic waste - at the end of her driveway for collection the following morning.

But before she can drive to work she has to move at least ten of her neighbours’ bins which have been lined up outside her driveway after the binmen have emptied them.

Emma has even taken pictures of the bins as evidence and posted them to Coventry City Council in a bid to stop the bullying.

She tried to ask one of the bin men why they blockade her drive but they swore under their breath and walked off.

Another simply shrugged his shoulders and said it was not his job to collect the bins.

Emma said: ‘I hate confrontation and understand everyone has a job to do but I am staggered by the behaviour of these people.’

Now Emma has to spend around ten minutes dragging the bins away from her driveway every Thursday morning so that she can take her daughters Abigail, 17, and Chloe, 11, to school.

Emma added: ‘I thought somebody was playing a ‘Beadle’s About’ type prank on me at first but now it’s gone way beyond a joke.

‘It’s utterly ridiculous that we should be met with abuse every time we try to get the problem sorted.’

A Coventry City Council spokesman said: ‘We thank Mrs Harper for raising this concern and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

‘We will be ensuring that measures are taken to prevent this from happening again in the future.’

BAN ALL KNIVES OF ANY SIZE AND DESCRIPTION AND ALL SHARP INSTRUMENTS. WILL IT WORK?

Oh right. Sure.

I understand the fear many have and am not without that fear myself.  But who exactly will a ban save?  Some might say that a person who carries a knife might use it under some kind of emotional stress or in the heat of anger, where otherwise death or injury might not be the result.  I understand that argument.
But the honest to gosh fact of the matter is that most citizens don’t carry a knife anyway. And the criminals and madmen who do are not going to be put off because the law says they mustn’t carry a sharp instrument.

I heard about this on the radio the night before last and saw it in the paper yesterday.  It was depressing to be honest and I wasn’t going to post it.
Then I read Drew’s post on the subject of knives and so am posting this now.

All the laws in the world would not have saved this poor young woman and her unborn baby. The miserable bastard who did it, did not even know her.
It says he was a mental patient. Then what the hell was he doing out loose?  How many more innocent people have to die before authorities decide it’s more important to protect their law abiding citizens, then it is the ‘u-man rights’ of some fuckin loony tune who by all that’s right, should be gassed or hung or shot.
People like this have no worth unless used for medical experiments to further medical knowledge. Or else as farms for organs to save other lives but not criminal lives.
I guess I’m just fed up and sick of reading about these things. And trust me, they are frequent. This is NOT a one off thing.

Oh yeah ... I don’t buy the term ex-mental patient. Ain’t no such animal.

Tributes to pregnant woman ‘knifed to death by ex-mental patient’

By Chris Brooke
Last updated at 10:56 AM on 09th June 2009

A heavily pregnant woman was stabbed to death ‘at random’ by a former mental health patient, it emerged last night.

Claire Wilson, 21, was seven months pregnant with her first child, who also died, when a man plunged a knife into her back as she walked to work in broad daylight.

The killer was described as ‘cool as a cucumber’ after the attack.

Asked by a shocked witness: ‘Why have you just stabbed a young girl like that?’, he ‘shrugged his shoulders’ and made no effort to run away.

Mental health services and police are investigating the stabbing after it emerged that the suspect had a history of psychiatric illness.

He was admitted to the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby last year after making threats to kill and hearing voices. He received three or four weeks of treatment.

Since his release, sources claim he has moved from address to address and has not sought any treatment.

A man who had been following her stabbed her in the back once with a 12-inch black-handled knife. There was reportedly no warning, confrontation or provocation.

Publican Steve Greasby, who was also quickly on the scene, said: ‘Rick said he had walked down the road as cool as a cucumber as though he hadn’t done anything.’

Mr Greasby added that the knife was still in the victim’s back. ‘There was a lot of blood,’ he added. ‘She wasn’t talking but people were comforting her.’

Mr Kennard and Miss Wilson had spent a couple of years in Italy before returning to take up their life in Grimsby.

Dave Stembridge, 18, a colleague of Miss Wilson, called her ‘one of the greatest people anyone would want to meet’.

PHOTOS AND REST OF THE STORY HERE

● The case echoes one in nearby Hull four years ago when pregnant Tina Stevenson, 31, was stabbed in the back by paranoid schizophrenic Benjamin Holiday. He admitted manslaughter and was detained indefinitely at a secure mental hospital. An NHS trust apologised to the family of Miss Stevenson after an independent report criticised his care.

The makeshift minister who can’t even do her job because she’s still an MEP.

The other day I posted something and in passing mentioned this far left loony tune whose husband is very well known and a total schmuck in addition to being a Marxist/Leninist left wing big mouth.
Well ... it sure did set off our Lyndon here at BMEWS. I thought he was gonna stroke out which shows ya just how highly he thinks of them. Lyndon is not one to get too emotional or hot headed. Maybe he won’t see this post.

Actually, my own dear wife is not one to get overly excited and usually maintains her British cool.  EXCEPT where this couple is concerned. In fact, when I said there was this interesting article in the paper this morning on this subject, she refused to read it and asked me to please turn the paper over so this face doesn’t show.

It’s interesting none the less, and I must say maddening to a degree.  This govt. must be mad as well.
Get this, they are bringing back into govt., someone who had to resign over the expenses scandal recently.  ??

A Jewish comedian once said that Hitler created more Jews out of Jews who weren’t Jews before, then any single man on earth.
Well, Mr. Brown and his govt. here have created the situation where they have created hundreds of thousands and maybe millions of votes and support for the BNP Party which as many of you may know, have a rather foul reputation.

Farce over Glenys Kinnock, the makeshift minister who can’t even do her job because she’s still an MEP

Glenys Kinnock: Is she a minister or isn’t she?

Glenys Kinnock’s appointment as Europe minister descended into farce yesterday after it emerged that she could not do the job because she was still an MEP.

Under EU Parliament rules, Mrs Kinnock is not allowed to serve as a minister in a national Government until she steps down as an MEP on July 14.

image

Days after accepting Gordon Brown’s surprise invitation to join his Government, Mrs Kinnock was forced to admit she was a mere ‘acting minister’.

There was speculation in Westminster last night that Mrs Kinnock was reluctant to quit her job as an MEP as she would have to forgo some of her gold-plated pension and golden-goodbye.

The absurd situation is set to cause further embarrassment for Mr Brown as he fights for his political survival.

Downing Street sources last night insisted Mrs Kinnock had resigned as an MEP.

But a European Parliament spokesman said he had no knowledge of her quitting the post. ‘We would normally get a formal notification if that had happened,’ said the spokesman. ‘But we haven’t had one.’

Tory Europe spokesman Mark Francois said: ‘Today’s confusion regarding Glenys Kinnock is symptomatic of the kind of chaos which now reigns in Downing Street, whereby even Ministers of the Crown do not appear to know whether they are Ministers or not.’

By resigning a few weeks early, Mrs Kinnock is expected to lose out slightly on some of her MEP’s pension - believed to be worth around £66,000 a year. The pension is calculated on her time served as an MEP and her age. Her early ‘retirement’ is only set to cost her a few hundred pounds.

Mrs Kinnock is also entitled to receive a parachute payment - aimed at helping MEPs ease back into life after losing their seats - worth around £32,383.

But as she has gone on to a Government job, her salary will be deducted from this transition allowance, effectively cancelling it out.

A spokesman for Open Europe said: ‘The appointment of Glenys Kinnock is quickly turning into a shambles. The Government is all over the place on Europe. Yesterday’s election results show it needs to get its act together sooner rather than later.’

Mrs Kinnock, 64, and her husband have earned a reputation as serial junketeers after jumping on the EU gravy train in the 1990s. During her 15 years as Labour’s MEP for South Wales East, Mrs Kinnock’s salary had risen from £31,686 to £63,291, plus substantial expenses.

Yet a surprise call from Number 10 means she will make the transition from £63,291-a-year euro MP to £83,275-a-year Europe Minister.

Lord Kinnock, 67, and his wife are not the only members of their family who have a taxpayer-funded living.

Their son, Stephen Kinnock, headed the St Petersburg office of the publicly funded British Council until October. Its unpaid chairman is Lord Kinnock.

The 39-year-old now works as a director of the World Economic Forum.

The Kinnocks’ daughter, 37-year-old Rachel, landed a job on Mr Brown’s political staff two years ago.

Lord Kinnock was appointed as a European Commissioner in 1995, on a salary of £105,584 a year.

By the time he stepped down in 2004, he was earning £163,453 in salary, a £24,000-a-year housekeeping allowance and a £7,000 entertainment budget.

Mr Kinnock received almost £273,000 when he left the job to help him adjust to life outside the Commission. He can also draw on a £64,000-a-year pension.

Meanwhile, Mr Brown struggled to re-assert his battered authority on the Labour Party by plugging the gaps left in his Government with a string of ministerial appointments.

Sadiq Khan has become the first Muslim to attend cabinet after being appointed Transport Minister.

AND HOW ABOUT THIS ONE? THIS IS SURE TO WIN VOTER FAVOR. NOT.  THIS COUNTRY HAS ANOTHER WHOLE YEAR OF A LABOR GOVT. OH BOY.

MALIK TO RETURN

A Labour minister who was forced to resign over his expenses will return to the Government in the reshuffle.

Shahid Malik will be back on the Government payroll weeks after stepping down while Parliament’s sleaze watchdog investigated his living costs.

Government sources said Mr Malik has been cleared of any wrongdoing but will repay £730 of taxpayers’ money which he blew on a massage chair.

The former Justice minister will not fill his old job.

JUST A SMALL SELECTION OF VOTER COMMENTS ON THE SUBJECT.

As the UK goes, so shall the US follow

Gun Rights? How about Knife Rights?

US ATTEMPTS TO RE-DEFINE SWITCHBLADES – WOULD MAKE MOST POCKET KNIVES ILLEGAL

U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has proposed revoking earlier rulings that assisted opening knives are not switchblades. The proposed new rule would not only outlaw assisted opening knives, its broad definition of a switchblade would also include one-handed opening knives and could be easily interpreted to cover most other pocket knives, even simple old-fashioned slip-joints.

Note that CBP’s interpretation of the Federal Switchblade Act forms the basis for national, state and even local law and judicial rulings in many cases. This ruling by CBP is NOT limited to just imports. This WILL affect virtually everyone who carries a pocket knife, no matter the type!

Download the 63 page CPB document and read it for yourself.

Knife Rights has sent a letter to CBP requesting an extension to the ridiculously short 30-day comment period. We need your help to make an impression on CBP. They figured that they could slip this by everyone with little notice. We need to let CBP know that they are not going to get away with it; that we noticed and we are not happy and that we will not stand by while they take away our pocket knives.

DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY,

19 CFR PART 177
PROPOSED REVOCATION OF RULING LETTERS AND
REVOCATION OF TREATMENT RELATING TO THE
ADMISSIBILTY OF CERTAIN KNIVES WITH
SPRING-ASSISTED OPENING MECHANISMS

AGENCY: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security.

ACTION: Notice of proposed revocation of four ruling letters and revocation of treatment relating to the admissibility of certain knives with spring-assisted opening mechanisms.

SUMMARY: Pursuant to section 625(c), Tariff Act of 1930 (19 U.S.C.§1625(c)), as amended by section 623 of Title VI (Customs Modernization) of the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act (Pub. L. 103–182,107 Stat. 2057), this notice advises interested parties that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intends to revoke four ruling letters relating to the admissibility, pursuant to the Switchblade Knife Act, 15 U.S.C. §§ 1241–1245 (and the CBP Regulations promulgated pursuant thereto set forth in 19CFR §§ 12.95–12.103) of certain knives with spring-assisted opening mechanisms. Similarly, CBP proposes to revoke any treatment previously accorded by it to substantially identical transactions. Comments are invited on the correctness of the intended actions.

DATE: Comments must be received on or before June 21, 2009.

ADDRESS: Written comments are to be addressed to
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of International Trade, Regulations and Rulings,
Attention: Intellectual Property and Restricted Merchandise Branch,
Mint Annex, 799 9th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20229.

So what we have here, is the Customs Department (called “CBP” these days: Customs & Border Patrol) figuring out that modern technology has done a total work-around on the old Switchblade Knife Act of 1967. So it looks like they’ve decided that any knife that can be opened quickly with one hand, because it has a thumb stud on the blade or a grip hole (aka Spyderco) on the blade, are now switchblades ... and can no longer be imported?? What about the ones made here? Is this some kind of trade restriction?

Um, excuse me? Fuck off, please. What part of “shall not be infringed” don’t you fascists understand? I should be able to own, and carry, any kind of knife I want, whether it’s “weponized” or “utilitarian” in shape. And the size thing I don’t like either. If I want a 8” knife in my pocket, that’s my business, not the government’s. The Switchblade Act has to go, not be extended.

The government document goes on forever and ever, and most of it is highly repetitive, as it’s a compilation of any number of rulings on various brands of knives. Finally down at the end they put it all together and come to their conclusion. My reading of it: any knife you can easily and quickly open with one hand will be considered an “inertial” opening knife, and therefore a switchblade. Total crap.

You ain’t laying your hands on my first year black Almite C22PSBK Michael Walker Spyderco. [ IMO, the only pretty Spyderco knife ever made ] From my cold, dead, pockets.

Oh Noes!

NOLA Mayor Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin In Lockdown - in China!

He doesn’t even get ONE phone call!

BEIJING—They take their quarantines very, very seriously in China. They don’t even allow phone calls.

The mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, is under lockdown in a suburban Shanghai hotel after a passenger on his flight from the U.S. exhibited symptoms of swine flu—and now his Chinese hosts are screening his calls “to keep him safe.”

Nagin and his wife Seletha have been in quarantine since Sunday, along with a member of the mayor’s executive protection team, after they had the misfortune of sitting within a few rows of a French student now confirmed ill with the A-H1N1 virus on their flight from the U.S.

Officials at the hotel where Nagin is quarantined, the Jinjiang Inn in Shanghai’s Nanhui district, have refused even to pass on telephone messages without the permission of the city’s Disease Control and Prevention Office. They, in turn, handed requests over to the municipal foreign affairs department, which yesterday claimed no knowledge of the case.

“We have to keep him safe,” said a woman who said she was acting as a translator at the hotel.

Ceeon D. Quiett, Nagin’s director of communications, said in a statement Sunday that the three were symptom-free and “being treated with utmost courtesy by Chinese officials.” But she couldn’t say how long they’ll be forced to stay in the hotel, which is a designated city quarantine site. Quarantine measures in China typically last seven days.

Nagin had planned several days of trade-related meetings in China followed by a flight to Sydney, Australia, where he is to give a speech on climate change at a university summit.

Oh puh-lease. Ray Nagin in China on “official business”? Get over. And then on to Australia to talk about Goreball Worming? To a university? Give me a break. This is typical corruptocrat junketing at the taxpayer’s expense.

I hope the Chinese keep him locked up for 3 or 4 months.

Red State Rockers

Effin AWESOME

Obammunism got you down? Feel like banging your head on some piece of metal out in the garage? How about turning all that around, and doing some garage metal head banging instead?

Joe Corcoran from DM Records brings us the group Red State Rockers ... doing their tune No Socialism!. Sounds good to me, in sooo many ways. Now, if I only had a V8 powered pickup truck, manual transmission, no emissions controls, and a pretty healthy amp on the stereo ... it would sound even better.

Big government bought Detroit today

With another loan from China

Mainstream media didn’t know what to say

The devil’s in the details

7,000 US Marines patrolling southern Afghan desert

CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – Some 7,000 of the new U.S. troops ordered to Afghanistan are fanning out across the dangerous south on a mission to defeat the Taliban insurgency and to change the course of a war claiming American lives at a record pace.

The Marines represent the first wave of 21,000 troops ordered to Afghanistan this summer by President Barack Obama. Most of the Marine buildup will occur in Helmand, the world’s largest opium poppy-growing region and Afghanistan’s most violent province. Helmand borders Pakistan, where the Taliban’s top leadership is believed to be based.

“This is where the fight is, in Afghanistan,” said 1st Sgt. Christopher Watson, who like many here has also served in Iraq. “We are here to get the job done.”

Some 7,000 Marines from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, are now in the country, Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Abe Sipe said. The forces have brought fighter aircraft, transport helicopters, artillery and the infrastructure needed to support what will ultimately be a force of around 11,000.

Most of the newly arrived Marines are now stationed at Camp Leatherneck, a small base in the center of Helmand expanding by the hour as workers build permanent structures. Some Marines have moved out to smaller outposts and are patrolling Helmand’s deserts under a harsh summer sun.

Commanders warn that U.S. deaths are likely to increase this summer, the traditional fighting season in Afghanistan.

Assuming Obama lets them, these guys are there to do what Marines do: go to some God Awful place to do some God Awful job with the least possible resources, only to be ignored or vilified by the press or forgotten about by most citizens.

The deserts of Afghanistan in summer. To root out the Talies and the druggies, who don’t even need to change their clothes to hid amongst the civilians. This is the new theater in the ongoing fight.

Council refused to fix potholed road over fears it would upset illegal travellers.

batbatbatbat

Ran across this today. Had to post!
How much more stupid can councils here get?  They’re afraid of the people who are breaking the law by having an ILLEGAL camp.
To make matters dumber, in this case, even the travellers are in favor.  No problem they say. So what’s with the council?
duh.
I will never come to grips and understand this place or the mindset. They’re worried about rioting?  Hey, have you jerks ever heard of the machine gun?
Ratta-tat-tat. Problem is solved. Move on. See? That’s not hard at all.  How about a blockbuster bomb?  You’d have em singing, BOOM ... Why did my camp go BOOM… Out of the gloom and BOOM ... No more problems.

Last updated at 12:31 PM on 08th June 2009
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Work to fix a badly potholed road was put off for fear of upsetting travellers at Europe’s biggest illegal camp.

Residents in Crays Hill, Essex, had complained that their once-peaceful road had become a crater-filled track since the 1,000-strong Dale Farm camp was formed.

But police and council workers had ruled out fixing it because they are worried about rioting by travellers who could think they are about to be evicted if workmen turn up.

The decision was branded ‘appalling’ by residents - and even the travellers on the site say work to fix the road urgently needs to be done.

Essex County Council wants to resurface the road but will only send workmen with a police escort.

Essex Police initially turned down requests to send officers, saying it may spark fears among travellers that they are about to be evicted.

Instead they said they would only help after launching a leaflet campaign and hold discussions with the camp’s residents about the planned work.

Earlier, MP John Baron had written to Basildon Police Chief Inspector Simon Dobson asking for a police escort for road workers. But he was told before any work was done experts would need to consider ‘traveller engagement’.

He said before any potholes were filled they would need to create a network of people to negotiate with the travellers, send a clear and consistent message and hold an open meeting so travellers could ask any questions about the works on Oak Lane.

Chief Inspector Dobson added that the issue ‘required a clear communication strategy to minimise the risk of any false perception by the local travellers that the works are a pre-cursor to any enforced eviction’.

Pam Cummins, a parish councillor, said: ‘Talk about tip-toeing around people. When they fixed the road outside my house they didn’t come and ask me first.’

David McPherson-Davis, another parish councillor, said: ‘The road is almost impassable for an ordinary vehicle. ‘Residents complain on a daily basis.’

About a thousands travellers are thought to live in the village of Crays Hill, making it Europe’s biggest illegal camp.

The camp has been a long-running source of friction for almost a decade with claims of anti-social behaviour, death threats and HGVs making deliveries of furniture to the site.

It is estimated to have cost Basildon Council more than £700,000 in legal costs to try and get the illegally camped families evicted.

The travellers have vowed to build a ‘tent city’ on land nearby if they are evicted.

PC Nigel Scott said leaflets are going to be given out at the local school which has predominately travellers children as pupils to explain the work is to be carried out.

He said: ‘If they think there is an eviction there will not just be people from Dale Farm but half the site in Cambridge and half the people from Wolverhampton turning up.

‘It could all turn very weary very quickly’.

Even the travellers think the process to fill in a few potholes is longwinded.

Gratton Puxon, a spokesman for the families, said: ‘I think I speak for everyone when I say the police are not needed.

‘People at Dale Farm want the road fixed as much as residents. It should be done without the need for this rigmarole.’

The far-Right British National Party has won its first ever seats in a national election

A lot of people have suggested that, this is what happens when the main stream politicos just don’t listen.
Based on what I’ve been hearing, it isn’t so much that the UK has become a nation of bigots.  It’s that many do not feel they’ve been listened to.
And they think the BNP listens because there’s a chance they are small enough to to want to earn the votes needed.

Not many think however, that this right wing group has what it takes to get elected to the Parliament in London. This win for the BNP was for a seat in the European Parliament, where they hope to be a thorn in the side of those who want a closer union with Europe. There are many who are angered by the idea that so many rules can be passed in Brussels, that Englishmen and women must abide by.  They are also tired of this ‘diversity’ and ‘multiculturism’ which they see as a politically correct wrecking ball.

One thing I have noticed with interest.  You’ll see it also if you check the link for photos.
The yobs and thugs who are oh so freedom loving and devoted to democracy, who break car windows and try and block someone who has won an election in a very legitimate forum, from making his speech at a town hall.  Interesting too that it seems to always be those who do cause damage and who do try to silence those they don’t like or agree with on the right. Or far right.  They seem to me to be devoted to rights and free speech but only when it’s their voice that is heard.  Everyone else must remain silent least they get their cars damaged or worse.

BNP leader Nick Griffin becomes MEP as party celebrates first ever successes in Euro elections

The far-Right British National Party has won its first ever seats in a national election as Labour crashed to poll humiliation.

The neo-fascist party sent shockwaves through Westminster by winning two seats as voters turned their back on the political establishment.

BNP leader Nick Griffin won in the North-West and Andrew Browns snatched a seat from Labour in Yorkshire and the Humber after their vote collapsed.

Mr Griffin said his party’s double success was a ‘bad moment’ for mainstream parties but a ‘great moment for democracy’.

He added: ‘They’ve all been caught with their snouts in the trough. This is the British people fighting back.’

The UK results came as conservative parties raced toward victory across Europe as voters punishing Left-leaning parties.

Projections by the European Union showed centre-right parties would have the most seats - between 263 and 273 - in the 736-member parliament.

Centre-left parties were expected to get between 155 to 165 seats. In the UK, the LibDems came a disappointing fourth, with just 14 per cent.

Mr Griffin said the BNP’s success was due in part to the indigenous white population of the UK being treated as “second- class citizens” in their own country.

He told the Today programme: “There is a huge amount of racism in this country. Overwhelmingly it is directed against the indigenous British majority, which is one reason we have done so well in these elections.

“Every different ethnic group in this multi-cultural, multi-ethnic society that our masters have imposed on us are all allowed groups to stand up on their behalf, but the indigenous majority are not.

“In this country, it is the indigenous majority who are the second-class citizens in every possible sphere, not as a consequence of the immigrants themselves, but because our ruling elite has made us second-class citizens and that is one reason why we got such a huge vote in the North of England.”

In his victory speech, Mr Griffin claimed there was ‘a deep, dark stain’ on the way the country’s democratic system is run.

He said: ‘However much you dislike our party in some people’s cases, you cannot constantly stand by the perversion of the democratic process as a way of trying to keep us out.

‘For the last 50 years, more and more of the people of Britain have watched with concern, growing dismay and sometimes anger as an out-of-touch political elite has transformed our country before our very eyes.

‘It is not just a matter of mass immigration, although that is an obvious symptom of it.

‘It is handing us over to be ruled by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, it’s turning the common wealth of this country, our public services, into private properties for giant corporations, in banning St George’s Day festivals while encouraging everyone else to celebrate their festivals, usually with taxpayers’ money.

‘In so many ways the liberal elite have transformed this country.’

Mr Brons, who won a seat for the BNP in Yorkshire and Humberside, was chairman of the National Front in the 1980s.

He helped the party take almost 10 per cent of the vote in his region, up two per cent on the last election.

Its share reached 16 per cent in Barnsley, 15 per cent in Rotherham and nearly 12 per cent in Doncaster - all Labour strongholds.

Conservative Party leader David Cameron described the BNP’s victories as ‘desperately depressing’.  ‘The BNP are completely beyond the pale. They are an appalling bunch of people,’ he said this morning.

‘What the mainstream parties have to do is prove their worth. Get on the doorstep, explain to people how we are going to take up their concerns, how we are going to respond to their issues. That is the best way to beat these dreadful people. I hope this is the extent of what they can do and they go no further.’

Labour’s deputy leader, Harriet Harman, told Today: “I think people will be absolutely dismayed and I think it is horrific to think that we have got representing Britain in the European Parliament people who think that black people and people of Asian origin have no place in this country.

“It is not that they want them to be second-class citizens. They don’t want them to be citizens here at all.

“I think what they have done is played on people’s fear, the BNP. But also they have tried to pretend that they are less racist then they are.”

Crowds carrying ‘Don’t Vote BNP’ banners and chanting ‘BNP is the Nazi Party’, surrounded his and other party members’ cars, smashing a window, and forcing them to turn around.

The BNP leader had to be driven to the town hall in a police van, entering via a back entrance while being heavily surrounded by minders and officers.

Don’t try and explain this to me.  I’ll never understand it.

Something tells me I may have heard about this also happening in the states some time ago. I’m not certain though. But it sounds familiar.

I don’t know how they can justify this sort of thing.  All I’ve been hearing for months is how bad the economy is, how people are losing not only their jobs but in some cases their homes as well.  I hear that money is very tight. Where there is any to be found.

Last night I listened to some election returns and heard one politician speak about how they had to work harder to prove to the public that their interests did come first. The speaker said that ppl were losing jobs blah, blah and that her party must do more to help, blah, blah.
Then I read this and think. Ah. So maybe there’s tons of extra cash floating around unused and the taxpayer won’t really mind. Think again.  The txpayer is pretty damn angry and as an example for BMEWS readers, the Labor Party was badly trounced last night. It was a disaster for them. In Wales as a good example, Labor lost that seat for the first time since 1918.

Does this mean the public is ready to over throw political correctness and eff’n’safety?  I can’t say.
The things they are angry about (still) will over shadow this story I’m sure.
The BNP Party which I’ve heard described as racist, has gained their first major wins as voters show their anger.

The far-Right British National Party has won its first ever seats in a national election as Labour crashed to poll humiliation.

The neo-fascist party sent shockwaves through Westminster by winning two seats as voters turned their back on the political establishment.
BNP WINS

So this surely can’t help matters unless as I mentioned above, it simply gets itself buried along with her victim.

murderer Tracie Andrews gets £5,000 of plastic surgery at taxpayers’ expense

By David Wilkes
Last updated at 1:41 AM on 08th June 2009

One of Britain’s most notorious female murderers has been given £5,000 of cosmetic surgery on the Health Service.

Tracie Andrews is serving a life sentence after stabbing Lee Harvey to death and claiming he was the victim of a road rage attack.

But last week she was let out of Send prison, near Woking, Surrey, for four days to have an operation to realign her protruding jaw.

It is thought she is preparing for release as early as 2011, just 15 years after the murder of her boyfriend.

The murderess, 40 - who has had a string of lesbian affairs behind bars and now calls herself Tia Carter - was spotted outside the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford after the operation.

Her once-blonde hair is now red and her bandaged face looked puffy.

Chin job: Andrews, who now calls herself Tia Carter, had surgery to realign her protruding jaw at the expense of the taxpayer

Yesterday Mr Harvey’s mother Maureen, 63, from Birmingham, said: ‘I am outraged that cosmetic surgery has been arranged for her.

‘She might be able to change her looks to disguise herself but she will never be able to change the way she is inside. She is evil.’

Andrews was taken to the hospital by taxi for the three-hour operation to break and reset her lower jaw last week.

She stayed in a private room under the name Stacey Carter, a Sunday ne
wspaper reported.

After the operation, which would have cost the NHS around £5,000, she was seen outside the hospital in a wheelchair.

She was with a prison officer but he used a mobile phone and walked 100 yards away from Andrews - who was not handcuffed - leaving her for about six minutes, according to the report.

Yesterday Matthew Sinclair, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: ‘It should be very rare that cosmetic surgery is paid for with taxpayers’ money through the NHS, that is supposed to be used to treat the sick and injured.

‘Ordinary taxpayers would be horridayfied to learn that they are paying thousands of pounds for cosmetic surgery for a convicted murderer. It should never have been allowed.’

It was in December 1996 that Mr Harvey, 25, bled to death in a country lane.

Andrews concocted a story that he had been murdered by a wild-eyed maniac.

But it was Andrews herself who cut her fiance’s throat and stabbed him 37 times.

The 21-trial at Birmingham Crown Court heard of her violent attacks on Mr Harvey and former boyfriends and of the forensic evidence which showed she must have been the killer.

Neighbours in Alvechurch, Worcestershire, said they frequently heard shouting matches at the couple’s flat.

During a journey home from the pub their relationship finally exploded. Andrews used a Swiss Army-type penknife believed to have been in the glove compartment of the car

She was jailed for life, with a recommendation that she serve at least 14 years.

A year ago she was given her first taste of freedom when she was briefly allowed out of jail, handcuffed to a prison guard.

She will become eligible for release on licence in July 2011 and has started the process of being moved to an open prison ahead of that.

The parole board is expected to meet soon to discuss the terms of her release.

Last night Prison Service sources insisted that the operation was not done for purely cosmetic reasons but was ‘required medical treatment’. The source stressed that it was not as a result of an assault on Andrews in prison.

In a statement, a Ministry of Justice spokesman said: ‘We do not comment on the healthcare of individual prisoners.

‘The need for medical treatment is a decision made by medical professionals and is the same treatment including remedial work as would be available in the community.’

THE LADY RESIGNS AND SAYS NO WINDOW DRESSING FOR HER, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I don’t suppose most in the USA or anywhere outside the UK are too much interested in the recent political scandal that has the present govt. in meltdown.

What many of the so called representatives of the people have done is indeed scandalous. In fact, there is every reason to believe some is even criminal.

The fat cats who sit on their collective backsides making laws and rules that OTHERS will have to endure have the public in a snit. They avoid taxes, make false financial claims on the taxpayer etc. No point in going over old territory again here.
This is another facet of political mindset.  There are those who will disagree but I think it’s rather hypocritical and offer the following.

An MP named Caroline Flint has left the govt. Talk about a snit. Or maybe a woman scorned?
One day she spoke of her continued support of the PM, who many want out of office.  Unsaid at the time was that she fully expected a promotion to another job, which she didn’t get.
Now then, she may well have had a legitimate complaint about that. I wouldn’t know.
What we all do know is that the next day she quit in a huff and issued a scathing report to the press on her former boss, the PM, Gordon Brown.

She accused him of running an old boys club for one thing.  Well, again. I wouldn’t know. Perhaps he was.
But ... she then went on to claim that she was tired of being “used as window dressing” for his administration.

Now then, ok. Sure nuff. I can understand a lady wanting to be appreciated for her abilities and I am all for that. Really I am. Not that looks count for nothing. Of course they do. It’s just human nature the left seems intent on denying so often. But here BMEWS.

Here are a couple of photos.  Do these appear to you to be the product of someone who doesn’t approve of window dressing?
I do understand her point but if what she accuses the PM of is the truth, the whole truth yadda, yadda; Why wait so long to expose it? Or, was it okay as long as it worked for her.

Caroline Flint resigns as she accuses Gordon Brown of treating her like ‘female window dressing’
Caroline Flint has accused Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, of treating her like “female window dressing” in a damning letter announcing her resignation as Europe Minister.

THE TELEGRAPH

On only Thursday night Miss Flint insisted she was “very proud” to be a member of Mr Brown’s Government and would not be leaving it.

But the Prime Minister told a press conference on Friday afternoon that she was in fact stepping down after refusing an enhanced role as Europe Minister.

He said she “was and has been a very good minister”, adding: “I asked Caroline if she would take on the job attending the Cabinet so she would be present at every Cabinet meeting.

“Unfortunately she didn’t see it that way and that’s where it’s left.”

In her resignation letter Miss Flint berated Gordon Brown for treating her and her other women colleagues as “female window dressing”.

She wrote: “I have the greatest respect for the women who have served as full members of Cabinet and for those who attend as and when required. However, few are allowed into your inner circle.

“Several of the women attending Cabinet – myself included – have been treated by you as little more than female window dressing. I am not willing to attend Cabinet in a peripheral capacity any longer.”

image

She also accused the Prime Minister of operating a “two-tier Government: your inner circle and the remainder of the Cabinet” and said he had “strained every sinew” of her loyalty.

Miss Flint’s is the latest of a spate of ministerial resignations in recent days – which she vowed on Thursday night not to join.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: “I am staying in the Government.

“I have spent my entire ministerial career for six years now serving Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and I am very proud to be in a Labour Government and very proud to be part of Gordon Brown’s Government.”

Miss Flint is to be replaced by Glenys Kinnock, the wife of ex-Labour leader Neil Kinnock, the Prime Minister said.

Mrs Kinnock will join the House of Lords immediately, he added.

Mrs Kinnock will join the House.

Oh my,oh my.  The govt. moves more to the far left every day. Or it seems that way.

Russia wheels out the evil weapon of history, distorting facts.  So what’s new?

A week ago I read a book review for something called,
REMEMBER US, by Ruth Derksen Siemens, and published by Pandora Press.  It is not an inexpensive book and I confess I’m going to have to wait awhile for the paperback and a good price at AMZN.  But it’s on my must have list.

What Heffer writes about here doesn’t cover my book per se but does remind me of the horror that must come with living under that regime.

It’s a sad story (and true) of a family broken up and one side never seeing the other side again.  How any of them managed to survive the gulag is as much a mystery to me as how anyone was able to survive the Nazi death camps.  I guess survival of the fittest maybe.

In 1929 two families fled for their lives. One catches the very last train to freedom in the west, but the other narrowly misses it, and ends up spending decades in prison camps.  Well, these many years later as so often happens, a large cache of correspondence was uncovered and is the basis for the book. And it is chilling.  I’ve never understood how or why the swastika, as a symbol of what it assuredly is, has been banned all over Europe and yet you can buy hammer and sickle jewelery and Soviet mementos and flags and display them. ??

Maybe the gulags weren’t death camps in the very same way that camps were under the Nazis.  But they were death camps non the less and nobody cared.
In fact, from what I’ve read about them, the dead might have been the lucky ones.
So this piece from Simon Heffer is timely. Very.

Distorting the facts about the Second World War may well be a prelude to a battle over a land corridor through Poland, writes Simon Heffer.

There are few things more dangerous or terrifying than when a nation, or the state apparatus that controls it, falls into the grip of a collective delusion. Such was the case in Nazi Germany, when a straightforward decision was taken to scapegoat Jews, Communists and, in the end, anyone else who didn’t agree with the prevailing madness, and persecute them to the point of mass murder. Stalin, in his own pursuit of totalitarianism, behaved similarly.

Some of us hoped that, in Europe at any rate, such absurdities were over; but a dispatch from The Daily Telegraph’s Moscow correspondent last week showed that the madness is back, in Russia at least, and with it the determination to abuse and manipulate history.

A research official in the Russian defence ministry has published an essay saying that Poland effectively started the Second World War by refusing to accede to Germany’s “modest” demands. We may take it that this man’s view reflects that of the Russian state; it is certainly widely interpreted as such.

Russia has been struggling with its idea of itself since the international humiliation of losing its empire nearly 20 years ago. For a time its sudden wealth – thanks to a high oil price and the value of other of its minerals – restored its amour propre. Although its rulers locked up people who sought to push democracy to its natural conclusions, such as the former oil magnate Mikhail Khodorkovsky, poisoned troublemakers and threw the odd journalist out of windows, the money enabled it to offer the pretence of being a dynamic and powerful economy. Rolexed men in expensive suits climbed in and out of BMWs all over Moscow, and an idea was perpetuated that Russia could feel good about itself.

Then the oil price collapsed, soon after the militarily successful but diplomatically disastrous war with Georgia last year. Once more Russia was poor – with many of its greatest businessmen broke – and an international pariah. So now history, that much-abused weapon, is brought out of the armoury.

To the rest of the world, the Stalin era is one of shame for Russia. The country is seeking to change this. The cynical pact with the Nazis, concluded between Molotov and Ribbentrop a little more than a week before the outbreak of war, is now defended as an essential prelude to the defence against the “inevitable” attack by Hitler. It enabled Russia to occupy half of Poland and the Baltic States.

As the genocide or occupation museums in Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn all show (and I have visited them all), the miseries inflicted by the Communist occupier on Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians were vicious, bloody, murderous and had nothing to do with protection against Hitler.
They were about the Sovietisation of Eastern Europe, a process interrupted by the Nazi invasion of 1941 but pursued with ruthless savagery after 1944-45. Oh, and by the way, Stalin was so reconciled to the “inevitable” Nazi invasion for which this occupation was a “preparation” that he ignored all warnings that it was coming.

The Russian view now is that if only Poland had let Germany have a land corridor to Danzig – then a “free city” but effectively German, with a strong Nazi organisation and surrounded on three sides by Poland in its new, post-Versailles boundaries – there wouldn’t have been a Second World War. That is such idiotic nonsense that only a regime founded on lies, as Putin’s and Medvedev’s is, could seriously attempt to peddle it. Whatever Poland had done, Hitler would have annexed it. It had been his plan since Mein Kampf. It was where Germany’s Lebensraum was to be. The Czechoslovaks had made concessions to him (forced by us, not least), and they were not deemed enough: occupation followed.

There is no point trying to reason with the Russians about how they ought to know this. They don’t want to know it. Reason doesn’t come into it.

Further proof of the madness comes in the suggestion by the Russian government that it is planning to pass a law to make it an offence for Russians (and, more sinisterly, for foreigners – though how that would work remains to be seen) to describe what happened in Poland and the Baltic States between 1939 and 1941 as an “occupation”. If you still cannot grasp how evil this proposal is, imagine if the German government were to do the same – saying that it would criminalise the statement that Nazis had occupied Poland (or France, or the Low Countries, or anywhere else) during the last war. Germany would become a pariah state overnight.

So why are we not exercised by Russia’s wicked distortion of the past? And what else is to come? Are we to expect a further revision of the view about the Katyn massacre of 1940, when, on Stalin’s specific order, 6,000 Polish soldiers were murdered by Soviet executioners? It is only in the last few years that the Russians have owned up to doing this, having hitherto blamed the Germans. Perhaps now they will blame the Poles for this too, possibly even speculating that it was a collective suicide.

In history there is a distinction between revisionism and distortion. The former makes a sensible reinterpretation of known facts, often with the support of additional and uncontestable evidence, such as newly unearthed contemporary documents. Distortion requires no new evidence, but can require the disregarding of facts we already know. It is clear what the Russians are doing: and I fear it is not merely to make themselves look good, or to rehabilitate Stalin and his ideas, or to use history to seek to humiliate a troublesome and fiercely independent neighbour.

When the Baltic States threw out the Russian occupier in 1991, a part of the former East Prussia annexed by Stalin – Kaliningrad, the former city of Königsberg – remained Russian. However, like that other Baltic city, Danzig, it now finds itself landlocked away from its motherland. Poland is to its south and west, Lithuania to its east. Are the Russians trying to tell us something? Is Russia about to make a demand for a land corridor through Poland to Kaliningrad, for the same reasons that Hitler sought one to Danzig 70 years ago? If so, is Russia intending to argue that the denial by Poland of land access to Königsberg could provoke a big international fight, and possibly terrible destruction, and that it would be Poland’s fault for not giving into a “modest” demand?

I simply don’t know. But when people start twisting history and wielding it as a blunt instrument without any provocation, we are wise to start asking ourselves why.
