Give Me The Big Gun, Baby!

Man Says Wife Was Accidentally Shot During Sex

Man Says Gun Went Off Prematurely Accidentally

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—A Tri-State woman is in critical condition Wednesday after police say her husband shot her while they were having sex.

Timothy Havens, 38, told Springfield police he was reaching for something on the nightstand when the pistol went off, hitting his estranged wife Carolyn in the upper chest. (911 call recording here)

Carolyn Havens, 42, is being treated at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Wait, there’s more. You know how I’m always going on about that damned Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968? So, what’s missing from the rest of story here?

This is isn’t the first time there’s been trouble for the Havens. Court documents showed Timothy served 60 days in jail for assaulting his wife and was ordered to go to anger management classes.

His arrest Tuesday for the weekend shooting was for violating a civil protection order that Carolyn had taken out against him earlier this year.

Bond was set at $75,000 after prosecutors asked for a high bond, “due to alleged prohibited contact between the parties (and) the suspicious nature of the circumstances surrounding (her injury).”

So she has a protection order out against him, yet she lets him in, in the ultimate definition of the term. And he’s already been convicted and served time for Domestic Battery, but he seems to have a gun? Or was it her gun, at her house, and was the sex perhaps not really consensual? I can’t tell you, because the Genius Reporter forgot to tell us who’s house this happened at, or even who owned the damn gun!!

Bait & Switch?

Byrd’s Office Explores Constitutionality of Sen. Clinton Serving as Secretary of State

Not much really to explore there IMO. She can’t have the office. Period. Not allowed.

The Senate’s senior member and staunchest constitutional advocate on the Democratic side of the aisle, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, is exploring whether Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is eligible to become secretary of state in the Obama administration.

The question of eligibility arises from Article 1, Section 6 of the Constitution. It says that no member of Congress can be appointed to a civil office that benefited from a salary increase during the time that House or Senate member served. On Jan. 4, 2008, President Bush signed an executive order raising the salaries of cabinet secretaries from $186,600 to $191,300, a cost of living adjustment.

Constitutional scholars who spoke to CNSNews.com agreed this issue is a valid one in the confirmation process of Clinton, who President-elect Barack Obama announced Monday would be his nominee for secretary of state.

“No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.”

Here is a question for your consideration: Is Obama so slick (remember that he’s a professor of constitutional law, right?) that he would make the SoS offer to Hillary (which would get him huge approval from the PUMAs and the other Hillary supporters) knowing full well that she couldn’t have the job? Knowing that she’d be shot down by that old fossil Byrd (what is he, like 117?) so his hands stay clean? And as a by-product he gets at least half the country riled up against the Constitution, that “fundamentally flawed document” that in his crusted little commie heart he wants to toss aside? Is he that good?

Sure, sure, tinfoil hat time Drew. But before you sheath me in Reynolds Wrap, remember that this is the guy who got himself elected to POTUS with no experience and no qualifications, and who already has a holiday in his honor and he hasn’t even taken office yet. Obama ... Yes He Can!

Ramirez! (and a bit of News From The North)

PS - did you hear that there is no government in Canada? No, they didn’t shut the doors to save money. The PM kicked out their Parliament so they couldn’t give him the old toss.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper won approval to suspend the country’s legislature for more than seven weeks in a bid to stave off a challenge from opposition parties seeking to bring down his government.

Harper, re-elected in October, told reporters that Governor General Michaelle Jean, the country’s de facto head of state, agreed to his request to close Parliament until Jan. 26. The government’s first order of business will be a budget scheduled for Jan. 27, Harper said, calling on the opposition to work with his administration on a “stimulus” package for the country’s ailing economy.

“The opposition criticism is ‘we have to focus on the economy immediately’ and today’s decision will give us an opportunity to focus on the economy,” Harper told reporters outside the governor general’s residence in Ottawa today. “It is critical for the three parties to work together on the decisions that need to be made with respect to the budget.”

The main opposition Liberals agreed Dec. 1 to form a coalition with the New Democratic Party in a bid to accelerate a stimulus package for the economy and oust the Harper government. The separatist Bloc Quebecois wouldn’t be part of the government though agreed to help it pass any legislation deemed matters of confidence. All three opposition leaders say they’re still committed to defeating Harper when Parliament resumes.

I want to take this seriously, because Canada is our good neighbor to the north. But it does seem like this move will certainly give all their big shots a nice long holiday. If this happened anywhere other than Canada, I’d think it was some kind of junta.

So, just how stark raving mad have these folks become?  See for yourself.

Have to thank Thorolf for reminding me about this.
I found it early this morning, got busy and then forgot all about it. Till a few minutes ago.
Talk about STUPID PEOPLE!

School cancels Christmas nativity in favour of Muslim Eid celebrations
A junior school has cancelled its Christmas performances because they got in the way of the Muslim children celebrating Eid.

Greenwood Junior School sent out a letter to parents saying the three day festival of Eid al-Adha, which takes place between 8-11 December, meant that Muslim children would be off school.

That meant planning for a traditional pantomime were shelved because the school felt it would be too difficult to run both celebrations side by side.

The move has left parents furious.

Janette Lynch, whose seven-year-old son Keanu attends the school, in Sneinton, Nottingham, said: “The head has a whole year to plan for Eid and so she should be able to plan for both religious festivals.

“I have never heard of this at a school. It is the first year my son has been there and a lot of the mums like me were really looking forward to seeing the children on stage.”

She said a letter, sent from “The staff at Greenwood Junior School’, said: “It is with much regret that we have had to cancel this year’s Christmas performances. This is due to the Eid celebrations that take place next week and its effect on our performers.”

Following outrage from parents, the school was forced to send out a second letter saying that the Christmas play would be done in January.

Sent by the head teacher, Amber Latif, and Yvonne Wright, chair of governors, it apologised for “any misunderstanding” but said it had to respect “the cultures and religions of all the children”.

It added: “The Christmas performance has not been cancelled outright but has been postponed until the New Year.”

Parents said they were originally told the performance was cancelled because children wanted to celebrate Eid with their families at home, and planning of the school year made it difficult to move performance dates to another week.

Sajad Hussain, 35, of who has two children at Greenwood Junior, said: “My children will be off for the two days next week to see their family.

“It’s not that complicated; they could have one event on one day and another on another day, they should have both celebrations at the school.

“If you do not have both it becomes a racist thing and that’s why you have to be careful If an issue is made out of it, it could become nasty.”

Yesterday, a statement issued by Greenwood Junior, said: “We would like to apologise for any confusion caused as a result of [the original] letter we sent out and would like to reassure parents and the community that Christmas has not been cancelled at Greenwood Junior School.

“For very practical reasons we have taken the difficult decision to re-arrange some significant events on the school calendar to ensure maximum pupil and staff attendance.”

FRAKEN MUZZIES

“Difficult Decision” my achin’ butt.  Nothing at all difficult about putting on a Christmas play in Jan and offending the “other” majority religion.  That’s because Christians are easy targets nowadays and there isn’t any protest with violent threats coming from the “majority” community.  What a load of garbage this is.
RCOB!  And I’m not even a religious person, but this bothers me.  This IS a Christian country. Wait, maybe I have that wrong.  It WAS a Christian country.  Long ago and far away.  That was a song title, or else a line in a song and it dates back to the second war.  I think.

Speaking of war, if the Tommy Atkins who fought for this island in two wars could have seen this future,
THEY’D HAVE STAYED HOME OR JOINED THE OTHER SIDE!
I simply refuse to believe that those old dogs of war would fight and die and be maimed for life, for this future.  NO WAY! No damn way!

I have been here more then four years now watching these folks give away their country and it’s damn awful.  What it is, is heartbreaking!
I swear I think everything is falling apart here.  Even on simple little things that you wouldn’t think mattered.  From workmen who never show up and people who never call to let you know about schedule changes, to ordering items in a catalog and getting the wrong items not once, not 2wice, but three times for the same damn thing.  There’s a rot that has set in and I’m certain of it.

Circling The Drain

Zimbabwe’s solution to cholera epidemic: beat the doctors

Just how much worse can things get in Mugabe’s stinkhole of a country?

Zimbabwean police ‘use batons’ against doctors

Baton-wielding Zimbabwean riot police broke up a demonstration by doctors and nurses protesting against the collapse of the country’s health system on Wednesday, while scores of trade unionists were arrested ahead of marches over the cash crisis.

The country’s economy has been collapsing for several years, but now appears to have reached a stage where hardly a day passes without some new example of the consequences.

With the country in the grip of a cholera epidemic, which the United Nations said today had now killed 565 people, doctors, nurses and health workers tried to present a petition at the health ministry. [another news source says over 12,000 are infected and are spreading the disease to other countries]

But they were forcibly dispersed by the riot squad, who are well-treated by the regime and remain steadfastly loyal.

There was a heavy uniformed presence in the centre of the capital and one professional man said: “It was all over very quickly as the riot police are all over the city. It is quiet now.”

Three journalists, two from the Zimababwean weekly, The Independent, and one from the South African Broadcasting Corporation, were arrested as the demonstrations began.

In a protest letter the medical personnel said: “We are forced to work without basic health institutional needs like drugs, adequate water and sanitation, safe clothing gear, medical equipment and basic support services.

“Health workers can no longer afford to buy food and other basic goods and services.” Efforts by trade unionists holding a general strike to mount protests against the cash shortage that is crippling daily activities were also broken up, after the authorities signalled several times that they would not be tolerated.

The secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Wellington Chibebe, was arrested while addressing workers in the capital, along with nine other people, the organisation said in a statement, while more than 30 were held around the country. It said 10 of its members were “heavily assaulted” by police in Harare.

Hyperinflation is raging in Zimbabwe, with the official figure for July, the latest available, at 231 million per cent and independent estimates far higher.

Good old UNICEF is doing what they can, but at this point pretty much all they can do is truck in clean water to the capital. And there will never be enough of that.

Zimbabweans are already suffering from raging inflation, food shortages and a steady decline in social services – particularly in the education and health sectors.  Now the country is faced with the total collapse of the infrastructure needed to prevent and treat diseases like cholera.

“Mainly, it’s the lack of capacity for the municipal services and the water authorities to provide safe water and refuse collection,” said Ms. Singizi.  “At the same time, there’s a collapse in the health services, which has made it impossible to treat the high number of infections.”

For the moment, UNICEF is trucking in 360,000 litres of water a day into Harare alone.  UNICEF and its partners are also providing essential items such as bars of soap, latex gloves and water decontamination tablets.

And now they’re going to try and ramp that up, with a 120 day program to try and stem what could soon be an exponential death rate. But it’s not just an uphill battle, it’s more like climbing a cliff under fire:

Zimbabwe has recorded negative economic growth for the past nine years, the situation is exacerbated by;

- a high HIV prevalence at 16 per cent;
- the highest orphan percentage in the world (one in four children are orphaned);
- food shortages -5.1 million will require food aid in January 09; and
- a steady decline of social services for the past five years.

However, in the past eight weeks, the country has seen a total collapse of its education and health system. In addition, more than 11 735 cases and 484 deaths have been reported in the worst cholera outbreak the country has experienced in recent years. The net effect on Zimbabwean children has been no schooling, a serious threat to their life, lack of health care, safe water and reduced number of meals.

“Children in Zimbabwe are on the brink, and everyone’s focus must now be on their survival,” said Mr. Monasch.

No money, no electricity, no food, no water, no sanitation, no health services. Forget about education or work opportunities. And now cholera. (this is all on top of the regular day to day horrors of life, like AIDS, ebola, tribal violence, crime, murder, corruption, racial genocide, etc) How can anyone stay there? How can anyone even still be alive there?

Once upon a time, when it was Rhodesia, this country was the jewel of Africa. No more. “Africa wins again”. Mugabe will not leave office until the entire country is dead. Which I guess might happen around March. And all the aid in the world will just keep their suffering going; it’s never going to get better.

Hospital bosses demand dead man’s consent… before they investigate family complaints.

batbat

Dollars to donuts nobody will lose their job over this. Sure, mistakes happen.  But she’s telling them he’s dead. And besides:

Mrs Guidon, from Boarshaw, Rochdale, Greater Manchester, suspected the cancer had returned but she says she had to ask eight times before anyone carried out tests and he died within days of getting confirmation it had become more aggressive.

Hospital bosses demand dead man’s consent… before they investigate family complaints over his death

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 11:12 AM on 04th December 2008

A grieving daughter was told by hospital chiefs they could not investigate her complaints about the treatment of her dead father - unless he signed a consent form.

Sally Guidon watched her 76-year-old father James Johnson die in agony and wrote to the hospital making a series of complaints and asking staff to investigate his death.

But North Manchester General Hospital replied to the mother-of-three saying they needed Mr Johnson’s signature to open his file and look into her complaint.

Mrs Guidon said the letter was the ultimate insult after what she claims was eight weeks of poor care given to her father.

Hospital bosses have now apologised for the administrative error and say they will look into the case when they get permission from her mother, Mrs Johnson, who is listed as his next of kin.

Mrs Guidon, 31, said: ‘I cried for about an hour and a half when I got the letter. It was the final insult, I don’t know why I was surprised by it after seeing the way they cared for Dad - it is typical of them to make such a basic error.

‘I’m disgusted with them. My dad worked so hard all his life and for him to be treated like that was terrible. To watch him die in agony was heartbreaking.

‘I don’t know what they were doing but they let him waste away. Because he was an old man they put him on the scrapheap when he should have been allowed to die with dignity.

‘When he went into hospital he was struggling to eat but we helped him and he weighed about 13 stone but he got no help in hospital and he was always desperately thirsty when we went to see him and asking us to help him drink, he went down to about eight stone in just two months.’

Archaeologists have discovered a lost city carved into the Andes Mountains.

Lost city of ‘cloud people’ found in Peru
Archaeologists have discovered a lost city carved into the Andes Mountains by the mysterious Chachapoya tribe.

By Jeremy McDermott, Latin America Correspondent
The Telegraph

image

The settlement covers some 12 acres and is perched on a mountainside in the remote Jamalca district of Utcubamba province in the northern jungles of Peru’s Amazon.

The buildings found on the Pachallama peak are in remarkably good condition, estimated to be over 1,000 years old and comprised of the traditional round stone houses built by the Chachapoya, the ‘Cloud Forest People’.

The area is completely overgrown with the jungle now covering much of the settlement but explorers found the walls of the buildings and rock paintings on a cliff face.

The remote nature of the site appears to have protected the site from looters as archaeologists found ceramics and undisturbed burial sites.

Archaeologist Benedicto Pérez Goicochea said: “The citadel is perched on the edge of an abyss.

“We suspect that the ancient inhabitants used this as a lookout point from where they could spot potential enemies.”

The ruins were initially discovered by local people hacking through the jungle. They were drawn to the place due to the sound of a waterfall.

The local people “armed with machetes opened a path that arrived at the place where they saw a beautiful panorama, full of flowers and fauna, as well as a waterfall, some 500 metres high,” said the mayor of Jamalca, Ricardo Cabrera Bravo.

Initial studies have found similarities between the new discovery and the Cloud Peoples’ super fortress of Kulep, also in Utcubamba province, which is older and more extensive that the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, but has not been fully explored or restored.

Little is known about the Chachapoya, except that they had been beaten into submission by the mighty Incas in 1475.

When in 1535 the Spanish Conquistadores arrived in Peru, they found willing allies in the Cloud People for their fight against the Incas.

Spanish texts from the era describe the Cloud People as ferocious fighters who mummified their dead.

They were eventually wiped out by small pox and other diseases brought by the Europeans.

The women of the Chachapoya were much prized by the Incas as they were tall and fair skinned. The Chronicler Pedro Cieza de León offers wrote of the Chachapoyas.

“They are the whitest and most handsome of all the people that I have seen in Indies, and their wives were so beautiful that because of their gentleness, many of them deserved to be the Incas’ wives and to also be taken to the Sun Temple.”

LOST

Wish the Telegraph would post the shots here they have in the hard copy.  I think this is awesome.  How much else is out there somewhere waiting to be discovered?

German soldiers too fat to fight the Taliban .

Obviously not made of the same stuff Otto Skorenzy commanded.
The story with regard to them being overweight is a very old one.  I’d have thought by now the problem would have been corrected. Guess not.

I better not say anything rude. After all, they’re our allies now.

German soldiers stationed in Afghanistan have been accused of being too fat to fight the Taliban because they drink too much.

By David Wroe in Berlin

A report by Germany’s Parliament found forces in Afghanistan got through more than 1.7 million pints of beer and 92,000 bottles of wine last year.

They are already on track to top those figures this year, with 901,000 pints of beer and 56,000 bottles of wine being shipped in the first six months.

US forces are not allowed to drink, while British soldiers are allowed only small quantities while off-duty.

Earlier this year, another report found that 40 per cent Germany’s 3,600 soldiers in Afghanistan were overweight.

This has prompted Reinhold Robbe, Parliamentary Commissioner for the armed forces, to observe: “Plainly put, the soldiers are too fat, exercise too little and take little care of their diet.”

There was also a stinging assessment given by the head of Germany’s crack commando squad, the KSK.

In a frank outburst, General Hans-Christoph Ammon, whose soldiers are fighting al Qaeda and the Taliban, said the scheme to train Afghan police – for which Germany is responsible – had been “a miserable failure”.

He said the German Government had put just 12 million towards training the Afghan Army and police.

“At that rate, it would take 82 years to have a properly trained police force,” he told Deutsche Press Agency.

The fresh criticisms follow a string of accusations against Germany’s military effort in Afghanistan, many of which revolve around alcohol.

Last year, American officers complained about a German colonel who was drunk at mission briefings, Der Spiegel has reported.

Thomas Raabe, a defence ministry spokesman, has defended the alcohol intake, saying it amounts to 0.77 litres of beer a day per soldier – less than the two 500ml cans they are permitted.

Many Germans oppose their country’s involvement in Afghanistan.

Nevertheless, the federal Parliament voted in October to extend the mission and boost the number of soldiers to 4500. Thirty German soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since early 2002.

Toxic leather armchair kills father, son and cat.

This is too bizarre not to be true.
You might want to cue the theme for the Twilight Zone as you read this.

Toxic leather armchair kills father, son and cat, family claims
Leather furniture blamed for thousands of cases of burns, rashes and breathing problems has caused the death of a father, his son and a family cat, it has been claimed.

By Alastair Jamieson

The settees and armchairs, made in China, are treated with a fungicide that can cause severe allergic reactions and eczema.

Thousands of complaints have been made about the furniture, made by south China factory LinkWise and previously sold by chains including Argos, Walmsley’s and Land of Leather.

Earlier this year Elizabeth McLaughlin, 59, of Luton, Beds, died after sitting on a recliner and suffering swelling and shortness of breath.

The wife and mother of the latest victims, in Paris, said they used a LinkWise chair sold by French firm Conforama. She said: “They had burns on their backs and legs. When my husband was in hospital, our cat would not leave his master’s chair. Two weeks later he was dead.”

Conforama admitted in July the chairs had an “allergy risk”.

The settees, sold in Britain for between £600 and £850, have been treated with a fungicide to stop them going mouldy in storage – a substance that has triggered violent irritant-related eczema in some customers.

Both Argos and Land of Leather have withdrawn the furniture from sale and furniture sold by Walmsley’s is no longer treated with the same fungicide.

The substance, called dimethyl fumarate (DMF), is so toxic that those who come into contact with it should wear protective glasses and clothing.

Sachets of DMF were sealed inside the furniture, away from direct contact, but body heat caused by customers sitting on the furniture caused the substance to vapourise, resulting in burns and skin rashes that initially left doctors baffled.

Legal action on behalf of several customers has already begun, with compensation claims against retailers expected to total up to £10m. The furniture was on sale for as long as two years before the problem was first identified last year.

Jihadist forum calls for ‘YouTube Invasion’.

Jihadist forum calls for ‘YouTube Invasion’
A jihadist forum has urged supporters to wage a “YouTube Invasion” by uploading propaganda videos to the popular video-sharing website, the SITE Intelligence Group has claimed.

The US-based monitoring service said that the call was made last week by a member who called himself Omar Abdul Hakim on al-Faloja, a password-protected jihadist forum.

Those wishing to wage jihad should use the popular Google-owned website “to shame the crusaders by publishing clips of videos showing their losses,” Mr Hakim wrote.

“The members of YouTube number in the thousands of millions, and most of them are the filthiest and most dangerous people on earth,” Mr Hakim wrote, noting that it is even used by US President-Elect Barack Obama.

“Brothers, let us go to work and invade. I ask you, by Allah, as soon as you read this subject, to start recording on YouTube, and to start cutting and uploading and posting clips on the jihadist, Islamic, and general forums.”

The forum member included step-by-step instructions on how to post videos on YouTube and what software to use to cut clips into 10-minute sequences.

Islamic militant groups rely on the internet as a propaganda window. A draft US army intelligence report warned recently of the dangers of the micro-blogging service Twitter as a potential tool for terrorists.

In its “community guidelines,” YouTube says it seeks to “encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view,” but it prohibits videos featuring graphic violence or hate speech.

Jihadist forum

Well people there you are. Got it from the goat’s mouth so be warned.  They’re out there and you’re the target.
Bet you didn’t even know you might be, “filthiest and most dangerous people on earth.” Yeah. That’s us alright.

The terrorists among us

Mumbai terrorists have their own official webpage. Right here in the USA.

Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), the most likely culprit behind the massacre in Mumbai India that killed nearly 200 civilians, has a website hosted in the United States.

We’ve known for quite awhile that the Jamaat ud Daawa publicly ran a number of related websites (Urdu: http://jamatuddawa.org/; English: http://www.jamatdawah.org/) and that the group was the legal face of the outlawed LeT.

Jamat Dawa is the LeT’s “charity” and operates legally in Pakistan. U.S. intelligence agencies believe that the charity is a front for LeT fundraising which is used for terrorist operations in Indian Kashmir—and most recently in Mumbai. Jamaat Dawa claims it has no relation to the LeT.

The terrorist organization had the nerve to register the domain space in their own name, Jamaat ud Dawa. Cuz stoopid ‘Mericans don’t know no Urdu.

Yowsa. This is Rusty’s find, so go read the rest over at My Pet Jawa.

More Brilliance from DC

“Today’s vote puts the District at the forefront of using regulation to reduce gun violence, rather than the simpler, prior approach of hoping that an outright ban will be effective.”

You see the logic in that statement, right? “Because banning all guns outright didn’t do dingleberry to reduce crime, we feel that excessive regulation that keeps the law-abiding public unarmed for as long as possible will simply have to work.” Holy jumping turd maggots. Infinite Stoopid, minus 1.

The D.C. Council voted unanimously yesterday to give preliminary approval to legislation that would require gun owners to renew their registrations every three years and to notify police annually whether they still own guns.

The Fire Arms Registration Amendment, which would also ban assault weapons, was described as building on legislation passed by the council in September to adhere to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning the city’s 32-year handgun ban.
...
Yesterday’s gun legislation is the next step in the District’s gun control efforts. Its earlier attempts before the September legislation prompted a gun-rights activist to sue and the U.S. House of Representatives to pass legislation that would have all but stripped the city of its regulating authority. The lawsuit is pending; the congressional measure died in the Senate.
ad_icon

Since September, D.C. residents have been allowed to register magazine-loaded semiautomatic handguns as well as revolvers. The legislation banned magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

Yesterday’s legislation would also require firearms owners to take a safety course and undergo a background check every six years.

After the vote, council member Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) said in a statement, “Today’s vote puts the District at the forefront of using regulation to reduce gun violence, rather than the simpler, prior approach of hoping that an outright ban will be effective.”
...
After last night’s meeting and in response to gun-rights advocates, Mendelson said in an interview, ”We have been mindful of the limitations set forth in the Supreme Court case, and the bill falls within that.” He said the bill also will be “refined” before the final vote.

There ya go. The good little tyrants who run DC have decided that the way to cooperate with the Heller decision is to enact every possible limitation right up to the very edge of what the SCOTUS declared. Which is pretty much exactly what I expected when the weak kneed Heller decision came out. The DC government (almost 100% Democrat I think) simply will not allow the citizens of that city (who happen to be mostly black people) to legally have guns. All guns registered, no “as designed” capacity magazines, permits only last 3 years, you have to tell Big Brother every year if you still own a gun, safety classes, and of course none of those Evil Black Rifles are allowed. Plus we have to check your ass out every 2 permits, because you’re probably a criminal just waiting to happen. Oh, did we mention there would be fees involved for all of this?

Maybe Obama will save them, and give them some real freedom. WTF, it’s not like they earned it. Don’t hold your breath.

Amazing Fashion

And now, for no reason whatsoever*, is a bit of amazing fashion. So amazing I hid it below the fold.

Herewith is Australian designer Anna Plunkett wearing a chicken. A very colorful, playful, sleepy chicken. With enormous false eyelashes, right over the breasteses area.

Notice the attention to detail - it’s the chrome tassels on her open toed purple high heeled sneakers that really make the outfit.

Ladies, get out your charge cards. I expect this will be THE hot new look for Spring. Whimsy, art, and support for PETA all rolled into one. How can you refuse?

h/t to Go Fug Yourself

* Ok, the reason is that I just can’t bear to post publicly on the head banging idiocy of Obama’s latest staff appointment, so I’ll hide that in the comments.

Saxby Chambliss (R) Wins Georgia Senate Run-Off

Dems will not have fillibuster-proof government after all.

In a disappointing year for Republicans, there is good news on Wednesday: Democrats will not have a filibuster-proof majority in the U.S. Senate.

Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss easily won a second term in Georgia’s runoff election on Tuesday.

Chambliss was forced into a runoff against Democrat Jim Martin, his college fraternity brother, when neither man received more than 50 percent of the vote in November.

The Republican National Committee hailed Chambliss as a “strong, conservative leader” who can be trusted to “uphold the Republican principles of lower taxes and a strong defense.”

“His reelection sends a clear message that the Republican Party and our core conservative principles are alive and well,” RNC Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan said in a news release.

Chambliss won with 57 percent of votes to Martin’s 43 percent. Many of the Georgia Democrats who voted for Barack Obama and Martin in November did not return to the polls on Tuesday.

Turnout in Tuesday’s runoff was around 35 percent, compared with 65 percent in the general election in November.

Chambliss told his cheering supporters that his victory means Democrats won’t have a blank check in Washington. “You have delivered a message that a balance in government in Washington is necessary, and that’s not only what the people of Georgia want, it’s what the people of America want,” he said.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin all stumped for Chambliss.

Of course, this “filibuster-proof’ nonsense assumes that every Republican will vote the party line always, and that not a single one will switch parties. Don’t get your hopes up folks.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
