It’s a start

Keith Olbermann And Chris Matthews Dumped As Anchors

imageimage

MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of the presidential campaign.

The move, confirmed by spokesmen for both networks, follows increasingly loud complaints about Olbermann’s anchor role at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Olbermann, who regularly assails President Bush and GOP nominee John McCain on his “Countdown” program, was effusive in praising the acceptance speech of Democratic nominee Barack Obama. He drew flak Thursday when the Republicans played a video that included a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, saying that if the networks had done that, “we would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead, and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize.”

Matthews, who has criticized politicians in both parties, drew less criticism for his convention role but became a divisive figure during the primaries when he described how he was inspired by Obama’s speeches and made disparaging remarks about Hillary Clinton, for which he later apologized.

In May, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in an interview that during live events Olbermann and Matthews “put on different hats. I think the audience gets it. . . . I see zero problem.”

But NBC News journalists, who often appear on the cable channel, did see a problem, arguing behind the scenes that MSNBC’s move to the left—which includes a new show, debuting tonight, for Air America radio host Rachel Maddow—was tarnishing their reputation for fairness. Tom Brokaw, the interim host of “Meet the Press,” said that at times Olbermann and Matthews went too far.

“Tarnishing their reputation for fairness”? That’s got to be the best joke of the day!

Quoth the Times:

MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

The change — which comes in the home stretch of the long election cycle — is a direct result of tensions associated with the channel’s perceived shift to the political left.

“perceived shift”? ROFLMAO!! Surely the Times didn’t notice such a thing! Why, everyone who works there watches MSNBC all the time!

Thank God! Somebody at the networks finally saw the light. Maybe it came from the hole created by their plunging ratings falling right through the bottom of the tank, letting in a little sunlight and fresh air for once?

Seeking to bring about carnage that would have overshadowed the September 11 attacks.

Airliner bomb trial: Plot ‘could have killed thousands’
The terrorist masterminds behind the bomb plot had been accused of seeking to bring about carnage that would have overshadowed the September 11 attacks.

Last Updated: 7:57PM BST 08 Sep 2008

Prosecutors claimed thousands of people would have died in an unstoppable wave of suicide bombings on flights from Heathrow to North American cities.

It was alleged that the terrorists targeted up to seven flights, all scheduled to depart within hours of each other, making it impossible for the authorities to intervene.

Today the jury convicted ringleader Abdulla Ahmed Ali, Assad Sarwar and Tanvir Hussain of conspiring to kill “persons unknown” in a terrorist bombing campaign involving home-made liquid bombs used to attacks British targets including Heathrow Airport’s terminal three.

The jury rejected the prosecution claim that Ali was responsible for an airline bomb plot, failing to agree on evidence that he intended to target passenger jets flying from London to major North American cities with suicide attacks.

But police were convinced at the time that there was a viable airliner bomb plot.

Detectives discovered the cell created ingenious liquid bombs which they believed were disguised as soft drinks to beat airport security. They believed they were inspired by al-Qaeda.

In the chaotic hours that followed a wave of arrests in August 2006, aviation security chiefs implemented stringent new baggage restrictions.

Almost all liquids were banned from passenger hand-luggage, wrecking the travel plans of thousands of travellers and changing the face of air travel forever.

As time passed the restrictions were eased but a tight security regime remains in place and liquids in carry-on bags are limited to 100ml.

Counter terrorist police believed a senior member of the cell was preparing to test security with a dummy run transatlantic flight within days of their arrest.

A massive round-the-clock surveillance operation and a bug hidden in the gang’s Walthamstow bomb factory gave detectives a ringside seat as the plot unfolded.

right, the cops have the place bugged but the jury doesn’t buy the whole thing.  ???  Do we really, really need juries for this scum?

But several arrests in Pakistan and an intercepted text message encouraging the conspirators to act convinced police they must intervene.

The new information led police to mount a huge arrest and search operation on the night of August 9 2006.

The ensuing 24 arrests marked the turning point of what was to become the biggest counter terrorism investigation in British history.

The £30 million inquiry, codenamed Operation Overt, began in May 2006 when MI5 agents focussed their attention on the activities of Abdulla Ahmed Ali.

The operation quickly expanded as it became clear Ali was linked to a large circle of potential extremists, both in Britain and Pakistan.

Airliner bomb trial: ‘Suicide’ videos promised body parts on the streets .

These scum will win unless the west starts fighting fire with same.  They will use the freedom of the west against the west while the appeasers and hand wringers make nice on the sidelines.  Authorities have the evidence, why the trial?  A cheap rope will work quite nicely.

Suicide’ videos promised body parts on the streets
In what the prosecution claimed were six “suicide videos” lasting a total of more than an hour, the defendants threatened to scatter “body parts” on the streets in revenge for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

By Duncan Gardham, Security Correspondent
Last Updated: 6:16PM BST 08 Sep 2008

The videos appeared to be choreographed by Abdulla Ahmed Ali, who called himself the leader of “this blessed operation”.

During a 16-minute rant, Ali pointed his finger and mopped his brow as he made his point.

He accused his targets of caring more about fox hunting than Muslims and added: “I don’t consider anybody innocent who supports the slaughter of my people. What have you done to stop this oppression?

“You have shown more concern for animals than for the Muslim ummah [world]. When foxes are being killed you hold massive demonstrations.

“Any sensible person knows we are not targeting innocent people. We have made it absolutely clear to stay away from military, economic and government targets. If you do this you will be safe.”

Referring to Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Ali told his audience: “Sheikh Osama warned you many times to leave our lands or you will be destroyed and now the time has come for you to be destroyed and you have nothing to expect than floods of martyr operations, volcanoes of anger and revenge erupting among your capital.”

He went on: “Expect floods of martyr operations against you and we will take our revenge and anger, ripping amongst your people and scattering the people and your body parts and your people’s body parts responsible for these wars and oppression decorating the streets.”

Ali accused western leaders of paedophilia, pornography and fornication and said he was “fed up with living in a kuffar [heathen] land”.

“I’m no one’s slave, I’m a free man,” he added. “Those that know me know that I was over the moon that Allah has given me this opportunity to lead this blessed operation.”

He said he had wanted to seek martyrdom since the age of 15 or 16 and said his aim was the “big rewards that Allah has promised those who step on his path and inshaallah [god willing] become martyr and the best of amongst those to me is the guarantee of jannah [paradise] for myself and my family and those that are close to me.

“On top of this is to punish and to humiliate the kuffar [non-believers], to teach them a lesson that they will never forget.”

In his 18-minute video, Umar Islam, said he was on a mission of “revenge for the actions of the USA in the Muslim lands and their accomplices such as the British and the Jews”

Dressed in a black and white checked head scarf and sitting in front of a black banner with the words “There is no god but Allah” written in Arabic he told his audience: “There are many more like us ready to strike until the law of Allah is established on this earth.”

Islam, a convert of Jamaican origin whose real name is Brian Young, appeared to be reading from a pre-prepared script as he proclaimed: “Martyrdom operations upon martyrdom operations will keep on raining on these Kuffar until they release you and leave our lands.”

Off-screen Ali said non-believers would accuse them off being “brainwashed youths who are fed up with life and who are oppressed and angry and following a backward version of Islam.”

Islam replied: “I would say that yes my brain has been washed in the clean and cleansing waters of Islam and the Koran and the Sunnah [the path of the Prophet].

“You call us terrorists but you can see we don’t mind that because we will keep on terrorising you until you learn your lesson.”

Ali asked Islam what he would say to non-believers who accused them of being “barbarians” killing “so-called innocent people” and Islam said he did not consider anyone innocent who paid taxes for an army “pillaging the Muslim lands.”

“Most of you are too busy, you know, watching Home and Away and Eastenders, complaining about the World Cup, drinking your alcohol, to even care anything.

“That’s all you seem to care about, and I know because I’ve come from that. This society is crumbling socially, economically and everything and yet you keep supporting your government.”

Ibrahim Savant warned his fellow Muslims: “Remove yourselves from the grasp of the kuffar [non-believers] before you are counted as one of them. Do not be contented with your council houses and businesses and western lifestyle.”

In his video, college student Waheed Zaman said he was fed up of “campaigning, big conferences, peaceful negotiations with the disbelievers.”

“I have not been brainwashed,” he added: “I have been educated to a high standard. I am old enough to make my own decisions.”

Despite their claims in court that they never planned to kill anyone the bombers mentioned “so-called innocent people” over and over again.

Tanvir Hussain said: “You’ve got to blame yourself, and collateral damage is going to be inevitable and people are going to die, besides, you know, it’s worth the price.”

The men had pleaded guilty to causing a public nuisance, claiming the videos were simply part of a propaganda stunt, and the jury was unable to agree on whether Savant, Khan, Zaman and Islam had intended to carry out their threats.

NEWS FROM FRANCE, NEWS FROM FRANCE, NEWS FROM FRANCE.  THEY LOVE OBAMA, COLD ON SARAH.

oh boy ... wait till Drew sees this one.  Should be funny. Or maybe not. We’ll see.  Drew?

By Anne-Elisabeth Moutet

Paris Notebook
The Telegraph

Mrs Palin is getting no credit in France for being a successful, savvy woman and an exciting new face in politics. If the US elections were held in France, Barack Obama would poll a Mugabe-esque 83 per cent of the vote. Palin is painted here as an ignorant religious fanatic, a gun nut, and proof positive that the American heartland is a more dangerous place than Anbar province.

She is also seen as irrelevant, and one more reason why John McCain’s bid is doomed. Even the usually sharp-antennaed Sarkozy tilts towards Obama, whom, unlike McCain, he greeted on the Élysée steps and favoured with a high-profile joint press conference during the American’s whirlwind French visit. It will be interesting to watch reassessments should the Republican ticket win.

Long defined as a country of farmers, France is slowly seeing wimpy townie manners take over. The inhabitants of the Alpine village of Villaz (pop 3,000) are suing a local farmer, Michel Déronzier, because they don’t like being kept awake by his herd of Pie Rouges’ cowbells at night.

“It’s only seven cows out of 70 who have a bell!” Déronzier protests. “It’s necessary, because it helps the dogs locate them faster. And at any rate, there have always been cowbells in the country. If people don’t like it, they should move to the city; they won’t like the noise of cars there.” So far, it’s a standoff.

Says somethin’ not nice about French politics. But then I’m biased I admit it.

Michael Moore: the stupidest white man. ( Moore is someone I admit I’d love to have in gun sight)

I really don’t HATE that many people. Honestly I don’t.  Lets see, there’s the MIL but I don’t wanna shoot her.
I’m not even sure I hate OBL as much as I do Moore.  I see him, Moore, as a prime traitor and a gross lying SOB.  So yeah, I’d probably take a pot shot at the bastard if given a chance.  I imagine that looks pretty bad here in print but hey.  It’s how I feel about that slug.
Apparently a writer for the Telegraph doesn’t think much of him either.

Some of the comments on this are a bit over the top.  Don’t ya just love these “experts” who know about America and haven’t a clue.

By Daniel Hannan
The Telegraph

I’ve just walked past a poster in Victoria Station plugging Michael Moore’s new book. “Bring back the draft - but only draft the rich. If they have to serve, they won’t be so eager to start ridiculous wars,” it says.

Hmm, let’s see where these political shirkers are skulking, shall we? Why not start at the very top, with the presidential and vice-presidential candidates? Sarah Palin’s son Track is being deployed to Iraq next week.

Joe Biden’s son Beau is scheduled to go on 3 October. John McCain’s son Jimmy had been quietly serving in the desert without his father making a fuss: the old boy was furious when the news leaked. (Moore plainly finds such modesty incomprehensible). The only one not to be risking his children is Barack Obama, whom one can hardly blame since a) he opposed the war throughout and b) his beautiful little girls are 10 and 7.

In fact, the skiver here seems to be Moore himself, who managed to shoot the whole of Fahrenheit 9/11 without at any stage risking his generous arse by actually visiting Iraq, where much of the action is set. Falstaff-like, the greasy tallow-catch prefers to roar from the sidelines: “A plague on all cowards - give me a cup of sack, boy”.

(shiver, lazy person who shirks work and responsibility. not to be trusted.)

No one ever won a pissing contest with a skunk. Tannenberg’s take on Palin critics.

Last week I posted the following headline with the article.
Palin’s Alaska aides will be forced to reveal her office secrets in Trooper gate inquiry

Under comments, Tannenberg correctly said things should be met head on and hide nothing.
Also under comments, Dr. Jeff wrote the following which I see as an editorial, and a darn good one it is.  So, not that I’m lazy but. Can I write like this?
Sure. And cats can bark but see no reason to.

Jeff makes great points and I didn’t want it wasted and so am posting it here.  I can’t see any reasonable person taking issue with him.  If ya do, have at it.

Putting aside the question of when and how Governor Palin should deal with the problem, do I understand correctly that the primary push for the investigation itself and the urge to move it up come from Democrats”

Hollis French, the Democratic senator who chairs the judiciary committee, stoked the furore when he predicted last week: “It’s likely to be damaging to the Governor’s administration.”

Steven Blanchflower, the independent prosecutor conducting the investigation, was originally due to deliver his report on Oct 31, just four days before the presidential election. But the judiciary committee brought the probe forward to change such a politically-loaded schedule.

Italics mine.

OK, I’m guessing that Governor Palin had no love for Wooten who definitely did some strange stuff.  Don’t forget, the kid was Palin’s nephew.  So, I’m also assuming (yeah, dangerous word) that Governor Palin probably rode the fine edge of the law in dealing with Monegan and Wooten.  Innocent or guilty, the Dems will use it as an albatross around her neck.

Hollis French is telegraphing the hits the Dems are going to use in a massive smear campaign.  You don’t think a Democratic Senator on the Judiciary Committee would influence an investigation, do you?  You don’t think he might influence the emphasis on one area of the report over another, do you?

There are ways to report the same set of facts, that, while they may maintain the same technical meaning, will have a grossly different emotional meaning.

Short thought that gave me a smile.  Considering that he comes from Illinois & Chicago politics, Obama knows full well that Wooten would have been found in a ditch had he messed with the family of any Illinois politician.

Going on to the other bit that got my attention is:

In the last few days, video footage of her describing the Iraq war as “a task from God” and urging trainee pastors to pray for a new gas pipeline as “God’s will” has been unearthed and posted on YouTube. As a fundamentalist Christian who advocates the teaching of intelligent design (a form of biblical creationism) in schools and opposes abortion even when a mother was raped or her life is at risk, her beliefs certainly appeal to the hardline Religious Right but may deter more mainstream swing voters.

The right or wrong of the political positions are now overshadowed by the religious position.  My experience is that a significant number of mainstream (not just leftist) voters are uncomfortable with hardcore Evangelicals having political power.  If you get to the left of the mainstream, the reaction is far worse.  No wonder Obama says his campaign won’t touch the issues of Palin’s daughter, Trooper Gate and her faith.  He’s got lots of hatchet men to do it for him.

What no one is taking into consideration is that the President’s religious beliefs actually can’t change the law of the land by any great amount.  Our system has a lot of checks and balances built in, limiting legislation based purely on an individual person’s faith, or even the faith of the majority.  Personally, what I would expect from Governor Palin, is that she would feel required by her beliefs, to do the best job possible for the welfare of the American people.  The biggest problem will be to separate the emotionalism the Dems are using, from the reality of the qualities that she would bring with her.  One demonstration of Evangelical faith in government is that I seem to remember is that when John Ashcroft first started as Attorney General, a major abortion clinic bomber (forget his name) was caught.  I know that neither Ashcroft nor G.W. Bush who appointed him, liked abortion.  However, I saw nothing held back in the bomber’s prosecution.  They nailed him and they nailed him good.  They understood that whether or not they liked abortion clinics, they were sworn to uphold the law of the land, the man had broken the law and needed to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The matter of her daughter I see as mostly a personal, family matter, to be left out of the news.  At some time, there should be a picture of the proud Grandmother holding the newborn baby, standing next to the smiling daughter and that’s about it.  All considered, the Governor and her family seem to be handling it quite well.  Summation:  daughter is pregnant, they love their daughter and they will support and help the daughter.

Kids have been going against their parent’s teaching and wishes since the dawn of recorded history.  What is significant is not that the daughter is pregnant, but how it is dealt with within the Palin family.  Unless something really awful occurs, even that issue is irrelevant to anyone outside the Palin family.  Sometime though, there’s got to be a way to dump the a**hole boyfriend.  I’ve got more of a problem with Bristol’s taste in men than I do with her pregnancy.  I spent some time this weekend with enthusiastic Democrats.  They’re talking about how horrible Governor Palin must be, because she’s an Evangelical and her daughter is pregnant.  They think the pregnant daughter is a good thing, because it now guarantees Obama and company the Presidency.  Don’t ask me to explain, I’m just reporting what I heard.

Never confuse fact with reality.

Dr. Jeff

Terror groups developing ‘dirty bomb’, say security chiefs.

You ppl who regularly comment here @ BMEWS can speak for me as well.  So I’m off to breakfast and hope these bastards don’t build this while I’m out and about.
T’aint funny.  Why can’t the west simply nuke the damn country?  Yeah, yeah. Collateral damage. blah, blah. Like we should care?  We’re talking survival here.
The west should do whatever it takes to insure that.  The enemy sure will do whatever it takes to undo us.  You can count on that.

Terror groups developing ‘dirty bomb’, say security chiefs
Islamist terrorists have stepped up their efforts to develop a ‘dirty’ bomb for use against Western targets, senior Western security sources have told The Daily Telegraph.

By Con Coughlin

They are exploiting the political chaos in Pakistan in a bid to acquire nuclear material for a ‘spectacular’ attack.

At least one plot has been uncovered involving Pakistani-based terrorists planning to use nuclear material against a major European target.

Osama bin Laden’s al-Qa’eda terror group, whose terrorist infrastructure is based in the province of Waziristan in northwest Pakistan, is known to be trying to acquire nuclear technology to use in terror attacks against the West.

Other militant Islamist groups in Pakistan, such as the newly formed Pakistani Taliban, have also shown an interest in developing weapons with a nuclear capability, according to Western security officials.

Security chiefs fear the mounting political instability in Pakistan will make it easier for militant Islamist groups to develop a primitive nuclear device.

Pakistan is the world’s only Muslim country with a nuclear weapons arsenal, which was developed during the 1990s by the rogue Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadir (AQ) Khan.

Dr Khan was placed under house arrest after he was accused of selling the blueprint for Pakistan’s atom bomb to rogue states such as Libya, North Korea and Iran. But the restrictions on Dr Khan’s detention have been eased since President Pervez Musharraf was forced from power.

Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is subject to stringent security safeguards put in place with the help of the American military when Mr Musharraf was in office. But there is mounting concern within Western security circles that Islamic terror groups will gain access to Pakistan’s expertise in developing terrorist weapons containing nuclear material.

“Islamist militant groups want to carry out terror attacks on a massive scale, and there is no better way for them to achieve that objective than to develop some form of primitive nuclear device,” said a senior U.S. security official.

The most likely terror device using nuclear material is a “dirty bomb”, where conventional explosives are fitted with radioactive material.

Security experts believe the detonation of such a device in a city like London would provoke widespread panic and chaos, even though the area of contamination would be relatively small.

Western security officials say they have uncovered evidence that a Pakistani based group was planning to attack a European target with such a device, although details of the planned attack have not been made public.

The sweeping victory of Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of murdered Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto, in the presidential election at the weekend, has done little to reassure Western diplomats that the security situation in Pakistan is about to improve. Mr Zardari was jailed for nine years on corruption charges, and Western diplomats have little confidence in his ability to provide strong leadership.

“Pakistan is in danger of becoming a failed state, and Mr Zardari’s election victory is unlikely to improve the situation,” said a Western diplomat.

Tensions grew last week when American special forces staged a cross-border incursion from Afghanistan into Pakistan’s lawless tribal regions.

They were targeting suspected al-Qaeda operatives, signalling a possible intensification of US efforts to disrupt militant safe havens in Pakistan.

Despite fury in Pakistan, US defence officials have said that the number of cross-border missions might grow in coming months in response to the growing militancy.

But there are fears this could but this could provoke an Islamist backlash throughout Pakistam that could play into the terrorists’ hands.

Most of the recent Islamist terror plots against Britain – including the July 7 attacks in London in 2005 – had links with Pakistan, and British security officials say groups based in Pakistan continue to pose the greatest terrorist threat to Britain.

British security officials recently confirmed that they were investigating at least 30 terror plots that originated in Pakistan. “In the past many of the plots have been fairly primitive, but we are seeing a growing level of sophistication. We fear it is only a question of time before the groups based in Pakistan develop some form of nuclear capability.”

A LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA YEAR 2010

I don’t know how I missed a site like this but am thankful to have found it and grateful to Valgerd for making me aware.
So ,, H/T Valgerd.  Again.

I would advise those who haven’t visited this place to please do so. I think you might enjoy the experience.

Cheers and I’m off for the night.

LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA FROM THE YEAR 2010

By seschenbac

OCTOBER, 2010
Mr. President:

First the good news: your approval ratings have jumped dramatically in the last two weeks. You are now at 15% approval which is your highest in the last eighteen months. Primarily, this is due to your decision to stay away from all press conferences that do not use teleprompters.

The restoration of the Fairness Doctrine has enabled us better to manage the information coming out about the various problems of the Administration. The New York Times is continuing to work with us on getting your message out to their 86 subscribers, who are behind you 100% of the time.

Unfortunately, we are having a harder time controlling the Internet and cable television. Your initiative to impose the Fairness Doctrine on Internet bloggers and comments has not been as successful. In fact, it has backfired terribly because bloggers are now using remote servers overseas where we are unable to enforce the law. We have had the FBI pull more agents off of counterterrorism actions to confront these scofflaws, but they seem to pop up at a rate of 10:1 as soon as we arrest anyone.

Jamming continues against Rush Limbaugh’s pirate ships that are broadcasting from offshore and Mexico, but your directives to use only alternative energy reduce their ability to jam his signals to just a few yards from the antennae. He is continuing to ignore your message of Hope, in spite of the law mandating that everyone have hope no matter how dire their personal situation is. His audience seems to be mostly amused by his suggestion that people should hope in one hand and defecate in the other, and see which fills up faster.

Your communications director, Keith Olbermann, continues to provide the press with the Administration’s message from his position as head of NBC News, but their viewers seem to overlap with that of the New York Times, and we are having a difficult time with the other 310 million voters.

Senator Clinton continues her investigations of your Administration in her role as Chairman of the Senate and does not seem to be slowing down. She is now investigating if her proposed nomination to the Supreme Court is just an effort by you to derail her investigations and her already underway campaign to replace you in 2012. We have our operatives working on the matter, but they are unable to get through the barricade of women voters who are now saying “We told you so!”

The financial markets continue to plummet as your phased-in increases of the capital gains tax are set for all gains after January 1st of 2003. The Supreme Court has upheld the retroactivity of the tax thanks to your appointment of Barbara Streisand who has tipped the balance of power there. It seems most of the Justices would rather kill themselves than have to deal with her legal reasoning, which has resulted in the recent spate of 1-0 rulings from the Court. Not to mention the pictures we have of Justice Kennedy with that sheep that he is not married to. We have instructed the Senate Banking and Finance chairs to begin investigation of market manipulations, but to be truthful, we could only leave a message on their answering machines since they refuse to take our calls.

Internationally, our emissaries continue to seek out anyone from the former terrorist group Al Qaeda to apologize for putting Boston in the path of their nuclear weapon. We are also having trouble with Russia, in that Tsar Putin is rejecting our message of hope and understanding. It seems he may be trying to mislead us as he continues mop up operations against Ukraine and the Baltic states. We have been assured that any images showing the destruction of the cities in those countries are just Photoshopped and not really indicative of what is happening on the ground.

Europe continues to reject your offers to mediate their desire to surrender to Tsar Putin, and this has been disappointing. It is our analysis that the Tsar may have bitten off more than he can chew as it seems that Al Qaeda appears to have declared war on the Russians as the infidels, thereby reducing any threats to our nation, except for San Francisco, which our scientists estimate will be able to be reoccupied in about 250 years if the anthrax eradication continues on schedule. Al Qaeda operations have continued against the Russian occupied cities of Prague, Vienna and Rome. We are having a difficult time getting reliable information from those areas due to the residual high levels of radioactivity. Our scientists continue to investigate if that radioactivity can be used as an alternative source of energy since it is in such abundant supply at the moment.

There is good news though in Korea, where Kim Jong Il has declared peace after the successful elimination of all resistance in Seoul. With the surrender of the Republic of Korea, our emissaries are now negotiating with those of the People’s Republic so that you can have a face to face meeting with the Beloved Leader and negotiate his use of the trademarked word “Change” in violation of international intellectual property rights laws.

Politically, we have not seen the benefits of a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. It seems that every Democratic Senator has decided that if you could become President they could too. Considering that they are all more qualified than you, all of them are now also running for President - with the exception of Senator Schumer, who seems to be running for the position of God. He believes that is his appropriate pay grade, since no one else has it.

Your staff wants you to know that we will continue to promote your message of Hope and Change as the solution to all of the Nation’s problems. However, if you could, a few specifics would be greatly helpful. Not that we doubt your sincerity that Hope and Change will work, but we lack your intellectual firepower to figure out how to implement it.

In summary, we are eagerly awaiting the November elections, in which the Republicans are expected to retake majorities in both houses of Congress. At that time we will implement your proposed strategy of blaming them for everything once again.

The future never looked brighter, Sir.

Children aged eight enlisted as council snoopers and report petty offences such as littering.

Yes I know my fellow Americans won’t understand and even then will not approve of this sort of thing.
But you simply don’t understand the joys and entitlements and thrill of the chase as these kids will no doubt be doing “their bit” to save the world from litter. And this little island will lead the way and bring India and China and wasteful Americans into the fold to save zeverld mine furher.  Oh wait, different movie. hahahaha!
I can’t help it. Gotta laff. It really is twistedly funny.  These folks are sooooooooooooooooooooooo serious about the globe getting warm and following eu dictates TO THE LETTER while the rest of europe ignores what isn’t convenient to them.  But the Brits bless em do as they’re told by their masters in Brussels and by their lefty labour govt.  And there’s a damn serious war going on here and it’s against waste and plastic bags and ppl not putting their trash bins the required distance from the kerb (that’s how it’s spelled here).  Markets trying to limit the plastic bags they hand out to their customers and everyone wanting to be seen as Gween.

Used to be during the cold war, being seen as a commie wasn’t too cool for anyone outside the unions and labour party.  Now it’s not cool to be seen as not green.

Maybe this isn’t so funny after all.  Oh btw .. they’re called “enviro-crimes.” Sets the blood boiling that does. EnviroCrime!

Children aged eight enlisted as council snoopers
Children as young as eight have been recruited by councils to “snoop” on their neighbours and report petty offences such as littering, the Daily Telegraph can disclose.

The youngsters are among almost 5,000 residents who in some cases are being offered £500 rewards if they provide evidence of minor infractions.

One in six councils contacted by the Telegraph said they had signed up teams of “environment volunteers” who are being encouraged to photograph or video neighbours guilty of dog fouling, littering or “bin crimes”.

The “covert human intelligence sources”, as some local authorities describe them, are also being asked to pass on the names of neighbours they believe to be responsible, or take down their number-plates.

Ealing Council in West London said: “There are hundreds of Junior Streetwatchers, aged 8-10 years old, who are trained to identify and report enviro-crime issues such as graffiti and fly-tipping.”

Harlow Council in Essex said: “We currently have 25 Street Scene Champions who work with the council. They are all aged between 11 to 14. They are encouraged to report the aftermath of enviro-crimes such as vandalism to bus shelters, graffiti, abandoned vehicles, fly-tipping etc. They do this via telephone or email direct to the council.”

Other local authorities recruit adult volunteers through advertisements in local newspapers, with at least 4,841 people already patrolling the streets in their spare time.

Some are assigned James Bond-style code numbers, which they use instead of their real names when they ring a special informer’s hotline.

This escalation in Britain’s growing surveillance state follows an outcry about the way councils are using powers originally designed to combat terrorism and organised crime to spy on residents. In one case, a family was followed by council staff for almost three weeks after being wrongly accused of breaking rules on school catchment areas.

It also emerged last month that around 1,400 security guards, car park attendants and town hall staff have been given police-style powers including the right to issue on-the-spot fines for littering, cycling on the pavement and other offences.

Matthew Sinclair, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, described the recruitment of children as “downright sinister”.

He said: “We are deeply troubled by these developments – they are straight out of the Stasi copybook. There is a combination of ever-stricter rules and ever more Draconian attempts to control people.

“Councils are using anti-terrorist legislation for the tiniest of things, like the people who put out their bins early, and the threats of fines and prosecutions combine to constitute fleecing the people the councils are meant to be serving.”

The increase in surveillance comes at a time when an estimated 169 councils have dropped weekly rubbish collections.

Some local authorities are refusing to collect bins which are placed too far from the kerb, while others are issuing £100 fines to people who fail to comply with recycling rules.

Critics have claimed that councils have stopped prosecuting people for flytipping in favour of pursuing easy targets such as fining people for dropping bits of food and cigarette butts.

In April, Hull council officials fined a young mother £75 for dropping a piece of sausage roll while trying to feed her four-year-old daughter. Sarah Davies, 20, refused to pay and the matter when to magistrates court where it was dismissed.

Doretta Cocks, founder of the Campaign for Weekly Waste Collection, said the use of children by councils was “shocking”.

She said: “What sort of world are we bringing them up in? I think it’s dreadful for neighbour to spy upon neighbour in that way.”

The Daily Telegraph contacted more than 240 councils across England and Wales to ask if they had recruited environmental volunteers.

Of those, 36 or just under one in six, said they had. They included Luton, with 600 volunteers, the highest of any council; Southwark, south London (400) Birmingham (370) Blaenau Gwent (300) and Congleton in Cheshire (300).

Among the “environmental crimes” which the snoopers are asked to report, which vary from council to council, are failure to recycle rubbish, vandalism, graffiti, dog fouling, fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles.

Some councils merely ask recruits to keep an eye out for problems, while others are sent out on patrols. Several of the councils which do not yet use volunteers said they were considering doing so in future.

Many of the town halls said they did not encourage their volunteers to confront offenders or collect evidence, for their own safety.

But Bromley Council in Kent offers up to £500 for information that leads to a conviction.

Crawley Borough Council in West Sussex said its 150 Streetcare Champions were asked to “report on individuals if known”. Bolton Council said its Green Inspectors must “note any relevant information such as registration numbers” if they see criminal activity.

Others, including Fareham in Hampshire and Waltham Forest in east London encourage their volunteers to take photographs of rubbish to help investigations.

Liz Henthorn, 66, a retired nurse who is one of 120 “Street Hawk” volunteers in Enfield, north London, openly describes herself as a “curtain twitcher” but insists she is not snooping on anyone.

She said: “If there is a problem with fly-tipping, general bad behaviour, graffiti etcetera then I ring the Street Hawk person and when I do it is cleared. Enfield has become a lot cleaner because of us curtain twitchers having a look around.

“If you can you report an individual but nobody is going to give their name and address. If you know where that person lives you can say you know who it is but other than that you don’t.”

A spokesman for the Local Government Association, which represents town halls across the country, insisted: “Environment volunteers are people who care passionately about their local area and want to protect it from vandals, graffitists and fly tippers.

“These residents are not snoopers. They will help councils cut crime and make places cleaner, greener and safer.”

Dominic Grieve, the shadow home secretary, said: “In any civilised society the community will engage with the police but it would be plain wrong for young children to be recruited and trained for reward. People want to see the police and other appropriate agencies on our streets catching and deterring offenders.”

Councillor Sue Emment, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for environment and street services, said: “Ealing Council works with participating schools so Junior Streetwatchers can learn how to help our local environment, take pride in their community and have a sense of civic responsibility.

“Organisations like the TaxPayers’ Alliance are fast becoming parodies of themselves and ought to find out about Council schemes before making comments. We feel it is sad that the valuable time these young people are spending on improving the community should be criticised in any way.”

A spokesman for Harlow Council said: “We need to encourage more people to care for their community. If we can encourage people at a young age to do this then they will grow up to respect the environment. Our Street Champions, which is an entirely voluntary scheme naturally, has the backing and support of parents for children to take part in the scheme. The scheme is highly regarded.

“The scheme isn’t just about them reporting environmental problems, they also take part in projects to help them learn new skills and in a wider context, about citizenship.”

Palin’s Alaska aides will be forced to reveal her office secrets in Troopergate inquiry .

OK, I know things like this are part of the game.  Doesn’t mean I have to like it or watch the play by play.
And yeah, I know our side does it too.  Doesn’t mean I have to like that either because what goes around comes around as they say here.

I want the election to be over sooner. Do we really have to wait if everyone already knows how they’re gonna vote?
Lets hold it tonight and inaugurate Mrs. Palin and her friend tomoro morning first thing.

Sarah Palin’s Alaska aides will be forced to reveal her office secrets in Troopergate inquiry
Senior aides to Alaska governor Sarah Palin are to be compelled to reveal the inner workings of her state office in an ethics probe that could be highly embarrassing for the new Republican vice-presidential candidate.

By Philip Sherwell in Wasilla, Alaska
Last Updated: 10:26PM BST 06 Sep 2008

Alaskan legislators have raised the stakes in their investigation of John McCain’s newly anointed running mate by declaring their intention to subpoena key members of her staff, obliging them to give evidence.

Mrs Palin, 44, who has electrified the race for the White House, denies claims that she abused her powers by dismissing an official who refused to fire her former brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, as a state trooper.

The cross-party judiciary committee also said it was bringing forward the date for its report into the woman who has electrified the by three weeks, to October 10. That is seen as a rebuff to attempts by the governor’s newly-hired legal team to stall an inquiry which she had said she welcomed before her surprise nomination to the Republican ticket.

Separately, Mr Wooten’s police union has filed an ethics complaint against Mrs Palin and her administration, claiming that his personnel files were viewed unlawfully.

“Troopergate” has its roots in a long-standing and bitter feud between the Palin family and Mr Wooten, who underwent a messy divorce and custody battle with Mrs Palin’s sister. In his first public comments on Friday night, Mr Wooten denied allegations that he threatened to shoot his then father-in-law during the acrimonious split.

The controversy is among many elements of Mrs Palin’s life in Wasilla that is now under the political and media microscope after her stunning debut on the national stage.

Although she enjoys an 80 per cent approval rating in Alaska for tackling corruption and taking on her own party hierarchy and “Big Oil” companies, Democrats are contesting her claims to be a fierce foe of fiscal excess and are highlighting an allegedly abrupt management style and “body count” of dismissed staff.

Left-wing blogs are meanwhile buzzing with further unsubstantiated personal claims about the Palin family following last week’s disclosure that the governor’s 17-year-old daughter Bristol was pregnant.

The welter of publicity may only bolster Mrs Palin’s support among conservatives and some independents if she seems the victim of a witch-hunt. But it also illustrates the merciless scrutiny that the once-obscure governor of America’s least densely populated state now faces.

Significantly, Mrs Palin has avoided taking reporters’ questions since her nomination and there are no plans for any press conferences as McCain aides leave her to rev up the conservative faithful on the stump.

The governor’s former public safety commissioner Walt Monegan claims that she fired him in July because he ignored pressure to sack Mr Wooten for prior misdemeanours and the alleged threat against her father.

The claims are denied by Mrs Palin who insists that she never pressured Mr Monegan to dismiss Mr Wooten or asked her staff to do. She counters that her husband and aides merely raised concerns about the trooper’s record with the commissioner, and says she dismissed him over budgetary and policy issues.

Mr Wooten was suspended in 2006 for five days for using a Taser on his stepson in a home trial and illicitly killing a moose under his wife’s permit. But he denies claims that he drank on duty or said that his father-in-law would “eat a f****** lead bullet” if he intervened in the divorce, as Mrs Palin says she heard.

“Trooper Wooten was punished for his infractions and that should be the end of the story,” John Cyr, the state police union chief, told The Sunday Telegraph. “But unfortunately for Mike, he married into a family that has since acquired vast political power.

“It is very sad that a family dispute is now receiving worldwide attention. I believe that this governor has used her bully pulpit to demonise Trooper Wooten. That is not only unfair; it is unconscionable.”

Mr Monegan said that he repeatedly told Mrs Palin’s staff that Mr Wooten had already been disciplined so the matter was closed. “I think there are some questions now coming to light about how transparent and how honest she wants to be,” he said.

It has emerged that he was contacted more than 20 times by phone or email by her office about the Wooten case.

Barack Obama’s campaign has been in touch with Mr Wooten, according to CNN which interviewed him on Friday night. The trooper acknowledged making mistakes but said he had been punished and learned from them. He said he did not wish his former in-laws “any ill-will” and described the governor’s nomination as “wonderful” for Alaska.

The Obama camp is expected to leave “Troopergate” to play out for now without comment. Instead, it will direct its fire at Mrs Palin’s previous pursuit of the federal grants known as “earmarks” that she and Mr McCain have fiercely decried on the campaign trail.

The intense focus on her roots in Wasilla will do nothing to undo her popularity in her home town where her jubilant parents, husband and children arrived back from the Republican convention on Friday evening.

“We’re very proud of our daughter and very honoured,” a beaming Chuck Heath told The Sunday Telegraph in his living room adorned with a moose’s head, furs and antlers. “I’m really sorry but that’s all I am allowed to say.”

An inmate is frustrating prison bosses by refusing to leave jail - two years after serving his time.

Welcome to the cozy-wozy, fuzzy, wuzzy, touchy-feely and make everyone happy system of crime and punishment?

bat

This is Moonbat nuts.  He found a loophole? Or some lawyer. Never mind. Some pins under the nails would get him talking fast enough. Actually, they could simply tell the SOB that he’s being deported to Somalia and then chain him up and drop him there.  Maybe off shore even.  Why oh why oh why do the powers that be keep on putting up with this sort of crap, but oh let some old duffer put the wrong trash in the wrong bin or not have the top closed all the way and they come down on ya like stink on ..... well, you know.

Mystery inmate refuses to leave jail
An inmate is frustrating prison bosses by refusing to leave jail - two years after serving his sentence.

By Richard Edwards, Crime Correspondent

The male prisoner, who is a foreign national, has exploited a loophole in the system by refusing to divulge his real name and country of origin.

He was due to be deported to his home country when he completed a six-year sentence for wounding with intent and aggravated burglary at HMP Peterborough in 2006.

But the necessary paperwork cannot be processed because he has refused to give prison officers his name or reveal the country where he was born.

Angry prison bosses fear the unnamed inmate could potentially remain at the prison indefinitely - costing the taxpayer an estimated £30,000-a-year.

Alessio Beschizza, chairman of HMP Peterborough’s Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), said he could not see an end to the “unusual” situation.

He said: “He is refusing to give the authorities any information about himself and there is nothing that can be done. We don’t even know if the name he has been giving is correct and he will not confirm his nationality.

“He has been due for deportation since he completed his sentence almost two years ago, but the prison has no choice but to hold him until we get the information.

“He could well be in there indefinitely, unless someone takes his case up and it goes through the courts, but I can’t see that happening.”

Between April 2007 and March 2006, an average of 173 foreign nationals were accommodated at the prison - more than 15 per cent of its overall population.

During the same period, there were on average 16 prisoners awaiting deportation after serving their sentences, but most were removed “within reasonable time” according to the IMB.

Once a sentence is spent by a foreign prisoner, he or she is handed over to the authority of the UK Borders Agency to prepare papers for their deportation.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Prisoners who refuse to engage with the UK Borders Agency and will not disclose their country of origin may be held until such a time as their identity can be confirmed”.

The IMB’s annual report made reference to the prisoner’s situation, adding that concerns had been raised a year ago but had still not been addressed by the authorities.

According to the Refugee Council, his behaviour indicated he could be facing hardship or persecution if he was sent back to his home country.

A spokesman said: “If someone feels they don’t want to be deported so strongly that they are prepared to remain in prison beyond their sentence, then it is likely there are some serious issues at stake. “Asylum issues where people have some sort of fear of returning to their country are very complex, and it is important cases such as these are adequately examined.”

What BS.  Examined? Why?  They do a crime in this country and authorities are concerned about the gremlin’s concern?  How much sense does that make?  Is anyone concerned about something like public safety?  And this bastard committed violent crime and they’re concerned about his safety somewhere else?
This really is maddening. As in RCOB. Worse yet, it isn’t simply the UK with upside down touchy-feely make nice to the bad guy. That crap is everywhere and I’d venture to say maybe the US as well.  Hope not but can’t help being skeptical.

Half of all criminals re-offend withn a year
Nearly half of all criminals released from jail reoffended within a year of being let out, figures have disclosed.
By Richard Edwards, Crime Correspondent

The number of crimes committed by serial offenders who have just left prison or begun a community punishment has risen to more than half a million a year, according to data from the Ministry of Justice Criminal Coddling.

Almost four out of 10 adults and juveniles are convicted of another crime within 12 months. The proportion of re-offending juvenile criminals rose year-on-year, despite the Government target of cutting numbers by five per cent from 2000 to 2006.

The figures showed that the longer offenders spent in custody, the less likely they were to re-offend.

(Here’s a flash for em.  Never mind “less likely” to re-offend.  Brick wall, firing squad = they NEVER re-offend.  And it has the added bonus of giving law enforcement some extra time to sharpen their weapon skills.)

By contrast, the number of severe new offences by those receiving community sentences rose by 21 per cent. The crimes include an estimated 92,384 cases of violence; 3,392 serious assaults; 8,404 robberies; 46,300 burglaries and 137,320 thefts.

Nick Herbert, the shadow justice secretary, said: “The Government is forcing courts to issue more community sentences because it has failed to build adequate prison capacity. However, community sentences are not robust and they are not stopping prolific criminals going on to commit serious offences.”

Yesterday one of Britain’s most senior police officers said that confidence in the criminal justice system had been undermined by a prison crisis.

Mike Fuller, the chief constable of Kent police, said criminals were avoiding jail or being freed early due to a shortage of prison places, which he claimed ministers should have foreseen five years ago.

The Ministry of Justice figures tracked the 51,157 adults and 48,938 juveniles who were released from jail or began community punishments in the first three months of 2006.

Among adults, 39 per cent were reconvicted of another crime within 12 months, slightly down on 2005, while among juveniles the rate rose slightly to 38.7 per cent.

With many criminals being caught several times, there were 146 offences for every 100 adults in the group, and 123 crimes per 100 juveniles.

That equates to a total of almost 540,000 crimes committed over 12 months – up 3.3 per cent on the previous year.

David Hanson, the justice minister, said: “We have made considerable progress in protecting the public by reducing re-offending but there is more work to be done.”

Dems Dump Flags, Republicans Rescue Them

McCain Camp Rescues Flags From Obama Rally

big_us_flag  big_us_flag  big_us_flag  big_us_flag  big_us_flag  big_us_flag  big_us_flag

Cuz, ya know, the flag is just a worthless prop to waive around in front of the cameras. After the show is over, they’re junk not even worth recycling.

Democrats are not caring for their Stars and Stripes. At least that’s the message out of John McCain’s campaign.  McCain supporters, claiming they rescued 12,000 miniature American flags from the site of Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday, redistributed the orphan flags to audience members ahead of a McCain rally in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

The move was an overt swipe at Obama from a campaign whose motto has been “country first.”

Sweet. And thanks for saving them too.

But Democratic convention organizers claimed the flags were not going to be discarded — but instead were snatched from the site of Obama’s historic address to carry out a “cheap political stunt.”

Sure. And they were in Hefty bags out of convenience, and they were kept in the dumpsters out back because that’s where everyone stores their patriotic gear, isn’t it?

McCain supporters said the flags were discovered by a vendor at Denver’s Invesco Field after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention. The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.

Boy Scouts were sorting through 84 bags of flags in Colorado on Saturday, before a McCain supporter had veterans distribute them to the audience.

Your move dems. What are you going to do, call the Boy Scouts a bunch of liars? 84 bags worth? That’s a lot of flags. A LOT.

image

“We want to find good homes for these flags,” radio host Dan Caplis said at the rally, adding that whatever flags remained would be placed at memorials throughout Colorado.

Audience members, who booed when Caplis announced that the flags were left in Denver, waved the flags and chanted “U.S.A” before McCain arrived at the rally with his running mate, Sarah Palin.

Good move Dan. I’m glad there are some patriots left who understand things.

Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.

Suck my ass, you lying shitbag. “Proudly waived” and then gleefully discarded. I’m only amazed you pinkos weren’t inventive enough to make instant “protest street art” and pave the sidewalks with them for your benighted masses to walk on. Or worse.

“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.

Which translates as “damn, they caught us red-handed. Quick, apply some CYA and drag out “don’t question our patriotism”. Loser.

Obama has faced attacks on his patriotism since the beginning of the Democratic primary race and has set up a Web site specifically designed to fight such charges.

The McCain campaign has denied questioning Obama’s patriotism, and even released a statement Friday calling Obama’s most recent comments on the matter “hysterical.”

I agree. Hell, I save McCain the effort: Barack Obama has no patriotism to question. The only America he admires is the utterly Changed one that exists in his dreams. Sorry, that dog don’t hunt.

Obama said Friday that Republicans are trying to make the election a personality contest, and that “what they’re really saying is ‘we’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, ‘Maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’”

No, we aren’t going to say “Maybe” at all. Because he DOES have muslim connections, he DOES hang out with radicals, and he is blatantly unpatriotic. And that doesn’t scare people. Not at all. No, it disgusts them.

84 giant garbage bags full of American flags. 12,000. Son of a bitch. It’s a shame they gave them all away in Colorado. This could have been a great fundraiser - “Help save the flags the dems threw away! Send $10 today and we’ll mail you one to keep and care for!”
