‘Bout Time He Showed Some

Balls, that is.

Here are some snippets from the article:

President Bush attacked Congress on Wednesday, ripping the new Democratic leadership for failing to achieve much in their first nine months of power.

...

“One of Congress’ basic duties is to fund the day-to-day operations of the federal government. Yet Congress has not sent me a single appropriations bill,” Bush said. “

...

With all these pressing responsibilities, one thing Congress should not be doing is sorting out the historical record of the Ottoman Empire,” Bush said. “The resolution on the mass killings of Armenians beginning in 1915 is counterproductive. ...

...

“Congress has more important work to do than antagonizing a democratic ally in the Muslim world, especially one that’s providing vital support for our military every day,” Bush said.

Indeed.  Although I don’t think Congress believes there is anything more important than “antagonizing a democratic ally in the Muslim world”.

Thin-Skinned Cop, Or Potty Mouthed Neighbor?

I thank the Lord daily that my closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away.  I can say and do what I want and am not in earshot of anyone.  I’ve cursed many a household appliance, so am not surprized by Dawn’s outburst, but 90 days in jail?  Good grief.

Potty mouth! Woman cited for cursing at toilet

SCRANTON, Pa. - A Scranton woman who admitted shouted profanities at her overflowing toilet within earshot of a neighbor was cited for disorderly conduct, authorities said.

Dawn Herb could face up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $300.

“It doesn’t make any sense. I was in my house. It’s not like I was outside or drunk,” Herb told The Times-Tribune of Scranton. “The toilet was overflowing and leaking down into the kitchen and I was yelling (for my daughter) to get the mop.”

Herb doesn’t recall exactly what she said, but she admitted letting more than a few choice words fly near an open bathroom window Thursday night.

Her next-door neighbor, a city police officer who was off-duty at the time, asked her to keep it down, police said. When she continued, the officer called police.

Mary Catherine Roper, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union in Philadelphia, took issue with the citation.

“You can’t prosecute somebody for swearing at a cop or a toilet,” she said.

Violence Falls, Gravediggers Hardest Hit

Oy.  You would’t think you could spin a good news story like this about Iraq into a bad news story, but Jay Price and Qasim Zein somehow find a way.

As violence falls in Iraq, cemetery workers feel the pinch

NAJAF, Iraq — At what’s believed to be the world’s largest cemetery, where Shiite Muslims aspire to be buried and millions already have been, business isn’t good.

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that’s cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.

Few people have a better sense of the death rate in Iraq .

“I always think of the increasing and decreasing of the dead,” said Sameer Shaaban, 23, one of more than 100 workers who specialize in ceremonially washing the corpses. “People want more and more money, and I am one of them, but most of the workers in this field don’t talk frankly, because they wish for more coffins, to earn more and more.”

For those in Virginia

If you are not a member of the Virginia Citizen’s Defense League (VCDL), you should be.  This was one item that came out on their weekly update this week:

Antis planning protest at Richmond gun show on Saturday!
The Million Mom March/Bady Campaign is planning a protest this Saturday at the C & E Gun Show at the Showplace in Richmond.  They are planning a “lie-in” (boy, isn’t THAT the truth!) at noon near the building.  They plan on having women dressed in black to lie down for two-minutes to represent how long it took Cho to get his guns.

I am going to have fun with this one!  Cho had to wait THIRTY DAYS to get his 9 MM pistol.  More proof that gun control is a joke.  Anyway, I hope these women bring warm bedding for the month that they should be lying there. wink

I plan on talking to the press (if any shows up) and our Executive members are discussing some possible counter-protests, like a stand-in representing those students who might be alive today if they, or other law-abiding students or teachers, had been armed on that fateful day.

The irony of this is that Steve Elliott, who runs C & E, is willing to honor the MMM’s First Amendment right at the gun show, even though he could legally ban them from the property, as it is privately owned.  If only the MMM hypocrites could honor the Second Amendment the same way.

Steve is going to offer to let any of the protesters in for free so they can see a gun show for themselves.  I hope they go in - they will be quite surprised by what they see.

While we are at it, let’s pack that gun show to support C & E.

And on a final note, while the MMM’s wish list for gun control would actually make crime worse if implemented, they have a right to their beliefs and it is important that we honor that right.  That means being polite to them, while letting the media know that the MMMs are simply wrong on the issues.

If you are near Richmond this Saturday and can drop by the show, take some pictures and we’ll do a feature post of the protest and counter-protest.

Goat on a roll, not on a pole

Another one of those awful Oops MomentsTM

Rabid goat could have affected hundreds

An adorable baby goat at a week long festival in oh-so-tony Peapack-Gladstone NJ. Hundreds of people oohing and aahing at him while he’s petted, cuddled, and bottle fed. Then he got loose and was running around in the crowd. Now it turns out he had rabies the whole time. Quite the uproar going on in central NJ!

Borough Police Chief Gregory Skinner said Saturday that a goat belonging to the farm has tested positive for rabies and that festival attendees may have been exposed to the disease, which has no cure and is often fatal.

How many attendees were exposed to the disease is unknown. Skinner said farm owner Corne Vogelaar had invited about 300 guests to attend the private event, and about two-thirds of those responded.

So far only about a dozen people have sought treatment, but all the papers are saying that number could quickly rise into the hundreds.

The 6-month-old goat repeatedly escaped from its pen and mingled with the more than 300 people who attended Harvest Festival 2007, as well as people who visited the farm between Sept. 26 and Oct. 6, said Sharon Wilkinson, the Bernards Township animal control cruelty investigator.

Looks like there could be a pretty significant health crisis brewing. Stay calm, don’t panic!

Rhodes Ravaged by Right - UPDATED

** Update **
We find via the New York Daily News, that Ms. Rhodes was not mugged at all.

Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.

Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.

“Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?” he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. “Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?”

A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan’s 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes’ lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she’s not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a “hate crime.”

Not that the nutroots will both with the truth, now that its known.

*********************************************

Misha and others are reporting the mugging and beating of Air America’s Randi Rhodes in New York.  Obviously, she was not able to defend herself because of the drakonian policies of the city of New York.  Are her collegues and listeners lashing out at mayor Bloomberg and others for this seemingly random act of violence?

You’re kidding, right?

Morning talk host, Lionel filled in for Rhodes on Monday, but did not say anything about why she wasn’t on hand to do her show. The Randi Rhodes board reports that Sam Seder, who does a Sunday afternoon show for AAR, will be filling on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Elliott was extremely agitated when he reported on the incident. He opened his show by saying “it is with sadness that tonight I inform you that my Air America colleague Randi Rhodes was assaulted last night while walking her dog near her New York City home.”

Pointing out that Rhodes was wearing a jogging suit and displayed no purse or jewelry, Elliott speculated that “this does not appear to me to be a standard grab the money and run mugging.”

“Is this an attempt by the right wing hate machine to silence one of our own,” he asked. “Are we threatening them. Are they afraid that we’re winning. Are they trying to silence intimidate us.”

But then the comments are even more precious:

Very unfortunate. Maybe if she were armed it wouldn’t have come to this. Remember people, police provide justice but they can’t protect you.

I wonder if she will still be a Liberal Bleeeding Heart Advocate concerning crime, punishment & probation/parole and the 2nd ammendment rights afforded U.S. citizens after this?

Think logically people. Why would conservatives leave a body to be found? They are too ruthless, she’d have simply disappeared. It was probably Al Franken. Find out where he was.

Sure - this must be a right wing conspiracy. No other explanation possible.
You know, like maybe criminals walking around because liberals like Ms. Rhodes have spent their careers blaming these thugs’ criminality on “society,” and not holding them accountable for their actions. Karma is a strange thing, people.

I am saddened by this news. I hope Randy recovers and the police find the attacker. Then I hope the attacker can explain what circumstances in his background led to his rage. This knowlege may help us all avoid attacks on the street in the future.

Tragic!!!! Is the dog OK?

Ouch

Who Needs A Gun At Home?

Maybe this guy would have fared better if he was armed and trained?

Police: Man Shot Dead While Playing Cards

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla.—A 62-year-old man playing cards was shot and killed by one of two masked men who burst into a home Monday night in New Smyrna Beach, according to police.

David Michael Turner, of Port Orange, was shot at about 9:20 p.m. at 503 Mill Run Drive in New Smyrna Beach. Officials responded to the home, where Turner was pronounced dead.

According to New Smyrna Beach police, Turner was playing cards when two masked men broke into the home, demanded money and fired at least one shot.

Thought Crimes In Academia

So its come to this.  If a student expresses his opinion and it doesn’t match up with the opinions of his betters, then he is immediately removed from the student population and remanded to a mental health “professional” for “evaluation” before being allowed to co-mingle with the rest of the sheep in the fold.

Unbelievable.

Hamline University Student Suspended After Advocating Concealed Carry for Students
School Orders Psychological Evaluation
October 10, 2007

FIRE Press Release

ST. PAUL, Minn., October 10, 2007—Hamline University has suspended a student after he sent an e-mail suggesting that the Virginia Tech massacre might have been stopped if students had been allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus. Student Troy Scheffler is now required to undergo a mandatory “mental health evaluation” before being allowed to return to school. Scheffler, who was suspended without due process just two days after sending the e-mail, has turned to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) for help.

“Hamline’s punishment of Troy Scheffler is severe, unfair, and apparently unwarranted,” FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said. “Peacefully advocating for students’ ability to carry a concealed weapon as a response to the Virginia Tech shootings may be controversial, but it simply does not justify ordering a mandatory psychological evaluation.”

On April 17, 2007, Hamline’s Vice President of Student Affairs, David Stern, sent an e-mail to the campus community offering extra counseling for Hamline students in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. Later that day, Scheffler responded directly to Stern, arguing that Virginia Tech’s ban on concealed weapons was part of the problem and advocating that Hamline eliminate its similar policies. Scheffler also wrote that the university’s diversity programs may have angered some in the student body, himself included.

On April 19, 2007, Hamline University President Linda Hanson e-mailed the campus community again to address the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Scheffler responded directly to Hanson and again criticized the university’s concealed weapons ban, academic standards, financial policies, and the university’s efforts to promote diversity.

Hanson replied to Scheffler on Friday, April 20, offering him a chance to meet with university personnel to discuss his views the following week. Yet on Monday, April 23, before Scheffler was even able to respond to Hanson’s invitation, he received a hand-delivered letter from Dean of Students Alan Sickbert notifying him that his e-mails to Stern and Hanson were “deemed to be threatening and thus an alleged violation of the Hamline University Judicial Code.”

Sickbert’s letter also informed Scheffler that he was being placed on immediate “interim suspension” that could not be lifted unless he agreed to a “mental health evaluation” by a licensed mental health professional.

FIRE wrote to President Hanson on May 29, 2007, vehemently opposing the sanctions against Scheffler, since neither of Scheffler’s e-mails even came close to meeting the legal definition of a “threat.” FIRE also pointed out that Hamline maintains a “Freedom of Expression and Inquiry” policy that encourages the public expression of opinions and the freedom to examine and discuss all questions of interest. FIRE wrote that “it is difficult to reconcile these admirable commitments to freedom of expression with Hamline’s hasty actions against Scheffler.”

FIRE also informed Hamline administrators that subjecting Scheffler to a mandatory psychological evaluation poses a grave threat to liberty at Hamline. FIRE wrote, “A psychological evaluation, to be overseen by a Hamline administrator, is one of the most invasive and disturbing intrusions upon Scheffler’s individual right to private conscience imaginable. Because Scheffler has shown no proclivity toward violence and has made no threatening comments, this psychological evaluation seeks to assess his political opinions….”

Own a Piece of History

This year, 41 Senators banded together to smear a private citizen by lying about his views.

Up for bid is the historic letter these lying sacks of $#!^ authored and signed.

When “Dingy Harry” Reid and the U.S. Senate turned away from the business of the nation to instead smear a private citizen, forty-one of them sent a letter demanding the “repudiation” of their inaccurate interpretation of Rush Limbaugh’s comments about Jesse Al-Zaid (a.k.a. Jesse MacBeth) and other “phony soldiers” who falsify their service. This letter was delivered to Mark Mays of Clear Channel Communications, Rush Limbaugh’s syndication partner, and widely quoted in the Drive-By Media.

Up for auction is the original letter signed by 41 Democrat senators. This historic document may well represent the first time in the history of America that this large a group of U.S. senators attempted to demonize a private citizen by lying about his views. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers.

The entire proceeds of this auction.. the entire high bid… will be donated to The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, a registered charity which provides financial assistance to the children of fallen Marines and federal law enforcement officers. Rush Limbaugh serves on the Board of this organization and has been active on its behalf. All costs of this auction will be paid by the seller… every dollar of your winning bid will go to this charity, which has to date distributed over $29 million.

Heh.  The current bid is $50,300

Second Time’s a Charm

Or maybe he should start putting heads on a pike outside his business.  Would that help?

Dallas Man Shoots, Kills Second Burglar In 1 Month

For the second time in one month, a business owner in west Dallas has shot and killed a burglary suspect.

The second fatal shooting occurred in the 2000 block of Chalk Hill Road.

Dallas police believe James Walton was sleeping when his burglar alarm sounded late Saturday night.

Police say he found two suspects at his business, Texas Allied Welding Supply. He shot and killed the first suspect, 37-year-old Jimmy Gannon.

The second suspect was also shot, but was not seriously injured.

According to investigators, the two suspects may have been looking for copper.

Robert Brown, one of Walton’s neighbors, said he’s proud of the shooting. He said it brings “a sense of pride of your neighborhood, taking care of your own. I like it.”

Last month, Walton shot and killed Raul Laureles after he tried to break into his business.

“People have the right to defend their property and their own life,” said Dallas Police Sergeant Andrew Harvey. “We’ll refer to the grand jury and make sure they hear [the case].”

Walton was questioned by police, but was not arrested.

That’s right Sarge, people do have a right to defend themselves.

The Calm Before the Storm

After winning the “Prize with no Concience” last week, I’m convinced AlGore will be giving talks wherever there is a microphone, telling whoever will listen (and some who will not) that the earth is getting WARMER and its absolutely MAN’s FAULT.

Then, in about six months, when his train is up to full steam, this little story published today, can be trotted out at a Q&A.

All quiet alert

That sounds like an oxymoron, and maybe it is, but the sun is extremely quiet right now, so much in fact that the Solar Influences Data Center in Belgium has issued an “All quiet alert” on October 5th. Since then, the sunspot number has remained at zero.

Here is what the sun looks like now:
image
The sun is blank–no sunspots. Credit: SOHO/MDI

The story has a couple of links to guys with big brains who know all about this stuff, but the conjecture is that a prolong period of no, or low, sunspot activity will undoubtedly cause a trend of GLOBAL COOLING!!!!!

One thing is certain, if in fact the suns magnetic activity slows, or collapses and we enter a period of little or no sunspot activity, we’ll see a global cooling for certain. There are a number of theories about and a couple of dozen predictions about solar cycle 24 which has yet to start. We’ll know more in about six months what the sun decides to do.

Wouldn’t that be a hoot?  The Goreacle trotting all over the place yelling about how we must do this and that to stop the warming, and the sun is already doing it for us.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!

New York Times Does It Again

From the Jawa Report

Inshallashshaheed Outted: North Carolina Jihadi in the News

Michael Moss of the New York Times has outted Inshallashaheed, the al Qaeda supporting blogger who we’ve been investigating for over a year. I’ve been sitting on his true identity for months, but in one fell swoop Samir ibn Zafar Khan, who lives in Charlotte North Carolina, has been identified.

Thanks a lot to Michael Moss and the New York Times for blowing an ongoing investigation into a known al Qaeda sympathizer who lives here in the United States. I’ve known about this piece for a few weeks and wrote the NY Times to ask Moss not to run it. No reply from the Times.

While we appreciate Moss’s commitment to spreading the word about the Internet Jihad, we really wish he would have consulted with us on the matter. He has a right to out Inshallahshaheed as Samir Khan, but doing so has jeopardized an ongoing investigation into a terror ring which begins in the US and ends in Somalia.

But that’s just like the NY Times, isn’t it? In Moss’s defense, he seems to have asked the FBI if there was an investigation into Khan, and they declined to comment.

Go read the rest and get pissed off for the week.

Monday Morning Funny

From member cmblake.

Are you a Democrat, Republican or Southerner?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock cal 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

What do you do?

..............................................................
Democrat’s Answer:

Well, that’s not enough information to answer the question!

Does the man look poor or oppressed?

Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?

Could we run away?

What does my wife think?

What about the kids?

Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?

What does the law say about this situation?

Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?

Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?

Is it possible he’d be happy with just killing me?

Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?

If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?

Should I call 9-1-1?

Why is this street so deserted?

We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.

This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.

..........................................................

Republican’s Answer:

BANG!

..........................................................

Southerner’s Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click..... (Sounds of reloading) BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click

Daughter: “Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips or Hollow Points?”

Son: “Can I shoot the next one!”

Wife: “You ain’t taking that to the Taxidermist.”

We’re brainwashing our children

Heh.  Apparently, there are some scientists who are not impressed with the Goracle’s prize.

Gore gets a cold shoulder

ONE of the world’s foremost meteorologists has called the theory that helped Al Gore share the Nobel Peace Prize “ridiculous” and the product of “people who don’t understand how the atmosphere works”.

Dr William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, told a packed lecture hall at the University of North Carolina that humans were not responsible for the warming of the earth.

His comments came on the same day that the Nobel committee honoured Mr Gore for his work in support of the link between humans and global warming.

“We’re brainwashing our children,” said Dr Gray, 78, a long-time professor at Colorado State University. “They’re going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It’s ridiculous.”

At his first appearance since the award was announced in Oslo, Mr Gore said: “We have to quickly find a way to change the world’s consciousness about exactly what we’re facing.”

Mr Gore shared the Nobel prize with the United Nations climate panel for their work in helping to galvanise international action against global warming.

But Dr Gray, whose annual forecasts of the number of tropical storms and hurricanes are widely publicised, said a natural cycle of ocean water temperatures - related to the amount of salt in ocean water - was responsible for the global warming that he acknowledges has taken place.

However, he said, that same cycle meant a period of cooling would begin soon and last for several years.

“We’ll look back on all of this in 10 or 15 years and realise how foolish it was,” Dr Gray said.

During his speech to a crowd of about 300 that included meteorology students and a host of professional meteorologists, Dr Gray also said those who had linked global warming to the increased number of hurricanes in recent years were in error.

He cited statistics showing there were 101 hurricanes from 1900 to 1949, in a period of cooler global temperatures, compared to 83 from 1957 to 2006 when the earth warmed.

“The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major effect on global temperatures,” Dr Gray said.

He said his beliefs had made him an outsider in popular science.

It bothers me that my fellow scientists are not speaking out against something they know is wrong,” he said. “But they also know that they’d never get any grants if they spoke out. I don’t care about grants.

Always follow the money...it will lead to the truth.
