Our Gal Ann

A day without an editorial by Ann Coulter is like spaghetti without sauce - it basically bites the big one. Speaking of “sauce”, our saucey guardian of truth herewith clears the record on North Korea for those of you who have short memories (Democrats) and those who choose to ignore the failures of the Clinton administration because of Bush Derangement Syndrome (Democrats).

Ann, I want to have your baby. Please say you’ll marry me ....

(HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE) - Oct 11, 2006

With the Democrats’ full-throated moralizing of late, I’m almost tempted to vote for them—although perhaps “full-throated” is the wrong phrase to use with regard to Democrats and sex scandals. The sudden emergence of the Swift Butt Veterans for Truth demonstrates that the Democrats would prefer to talk about anything other than national security.

Unfortunately for them, the psychotic Kim Jong Il seems to be setting off nukes, raising the embarrassing issue of the Clinton administration’s 1994 “peace” deal with North Korea.

At least with former Rep. Mark Foley, you could say the Democrats’ hypocritical grandstanding was just politics. But in the case of North Korea, Democrats are resorting to bald-faced lies.

Current New Mexico governor and former Clinton administration official Bill Richardson has been on tour, bragging about the groundbreaking Clinton administration negotiations with North Korea—keeping his fingers crossed that no one has access to news from 1994.

In 1994, the Clinton administration got a call from Jimmy Carter—probably collect—who was with the then-leader of North Korea, saying: “Hey, Kim Il Sung is a total stud, and I’ve worked out a terrific deal. I’ll give you the details later.” Clinton promptly signed the deal, so he could forget about North Korea and get back to cheating on Hillary. Mission accomplished.

Under the terms of the “agreed framework,” we gave North Korea all sorts of bribes—more than $5 billion worth of oil, two nuclear reactors and lots of high technology. In return, they took the bribes and kept building nukes. This wasn’t difficult, inasmuch as the 1994 deal permitted the North Koreans to evade weapons inspectors for the next five years.

Yes, you read that right: North Korea promised not to develop nukes, and we showed how much we trusted them by agreeing to no weapons inspections for five years.

The famed “allies,” whom liberals claim they are so interested in pleasing, went ballistic at this cave-in to North Korea. Japan and South Korea—actual allies, unlike France and Germany—were furious. Even Hans Blix thought we were being patsies.

If you need any more evidence that it was a rotten deal, The New York Times hailed it as “a resounding triumph.”

- There’s even more of this smackdown at HUMAN EVENTS ONLINE ...

Have It Your Way

Your assignment for today is to write a Cheech & Chong comedy routine to go with this story. Picture Cheech & Chong in the back cooking area of your (very) friendly Burger King when a herd of cops arrives for lunch ....

imageimageNext Time Hold The Marijuana
LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE News 13)

Two Burger King employees are in jail this afternoon for allegedly putting marijuana in hamburgers served to on-duty Isleta pueblo police officers.

It was at a Burger King on NM47 in Los Lunas Sunday night when the manager and one of the cooks allegedly spotted the two Isleta officers and decided to put an added ingredient inside their meal

The officers took their meals back to the station where they tasted something funny in their burgers. When they opened them up they found another leafy substance besides lettuce.

A spokesperson for Isleta police said a fellow officer tested the burgers for marijuana and they both came back positive. The two officers were taken to a hospital where both tested positive for marijuana.

They were immediately put on leave. The two officers and the entire Isleta police department are very angry about the situation....

“This is an assault on police officers,” Isleta Detective Olivia Cavallero said.  “These officers do their best in their careers to fight the wage the war on drugs, and basically they are poisoned by this.”

The restaurant manager and cook, Robert Nuckols, 21, and Justin Armijo, 19, were both arrested and charged with assault on a peace officer, possession of drugs, and conspiracy.

A third employee, Joseph Ledesma, 33, was also arrested and charged with possession of drugs. All three remain in the Valencia County Detention Center. Managers of the Burger King told us today they have no comment, and the owners have not yet returned our calls.

Barking Moonbat Of The Week

The Barking Moonbat Of The Week is not Ms. Davis in this story. No, that award goes to Oprah Winfrey, ABC’s “20/20”, the prosecutor and courts in Ohio and the publishers of her book. Every one of them needs to have their butts kicked.

Twyana Davis played the system for everything it was worth and all the stupid, bleeding heart liberals fell for it. And now she will go free with a slap on the wrist (three years in jail) and a hefty check from her book publisher. This is a travesty of justice. And that’s all I’m going to say about that ....

imageimageWoman Who Lied About Rape Gets Prison
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - October 12, 2006, 1:05 AM EDT

A woman who lied about getting pregnant through date rape and abandoned her newborn in a trash bin was sentenced to prison for the statutory rape of the baby’s father, her 12-year-old cousin.

Twyana Davis, 30, claimed in 1995 that she had been raped at a party, and told her story in a book and on television. Davis was sentenced Tuesday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court to 10 to 25 years in prison.

She had confessed to having a sexual relationship with the cousin, leading to her pregnancy. Her daughter’s DNA has since been matched to the cousin, now a 23-year-old inmate serving time for rape and aggravated robbery at the Lebanon Correctional Institution.

Judge Michael J. Holbrook labeled her a sexual predator and fined her $10,000. She told the judge she is trying to become a better person. “With all respect to you, there is a judge we all have to stand before some time,” she said.

Davis confessed to clear her conscience and claimed the sex was consensual, said defense attorney Byron Potts. He blamed her actions on a poor upbringing and abuse when she was a child. Though rape of a child younger than 13 now carries a life prison term, there was no provision for a life sentence when Davis had sex with her cousin, Potts said.

Davis likely will serve at least three years in prison before she is eligible for parole, O’Brien said. In November 1995, Davis left her daughter in a trash bin at Ohio Dominican College, where she was a student. The girl survived, and Davis was convicted of child endangering.

Davis regained custody of her child in 2000. Because of her case and others, Ohio passed the Safe Haven Law, which allows mothers of unwanted babies to bring them to hospitals, and police and fire stations within 72 hours of birth without being prosecuted.

She wrote “Sacred Womb” and formed Second Chance of Life, a nonprofit group aimed at preventing teen pregnancies and providing alternatives for young mothers who don’t want to keep their babies. Her work led to appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “20/20.”

Treason!

Skipper’s Note: I have decided to move this post to the top of today’s list because I think I’ve hooked a live one. Liberal troll, that is. He is using the Anonymous account that we put out as bait. We are having quite a discussion in the comments. Join in the fun if you wish. This one is really putting up a good fight (actually there are three of them and I am being gang-tackled) ....

You may remember an editorial by Steve Darnell that we carried last month about Adam Yehiye Gadahn (aka Azzam the American). If you missed it, you need to go read up on the man Darnell describes as “a bearded Pillsbury Doughboy in his white robe and turban.” Dang, I wish I’d come up with that description. It fits.

Anyway, the FBI finally got around to putting out a WANTED poster on “Azzam” and surprisingly, he is wanted on charges of treason. Great googley-moogley! The last time that happened was Tokyo Rose in the 1950’s ... who was carrying on a fine tradition begun by Benedict Arnold way back when.

Times have changed though. When Azzam is caught, he will be brought back to the US and the ACLU will be protecting him like a winter blanket. He will claim he was exercising his freedom of speech, which is protected by the Constitution and yadda-yadda.

If by some miracle he is convicted, there will be a candlelight vigil the night he is executed and every liberal asshat within a thousand miles will be singing Koombayah outside the prison. Cindy Sheehan will be there as well as Al Sharpton. The cameras will be rolling.

And somewhere out in a parallel dimension, the country that used to be the United States will be hanging Azzam from a tall tree and there will be no ACLU, Cindy Sheehan or lamestream media around. I miss that country. Where did we go wrong ... ?

imageimageU.S. Brings First Treason Case
In Over 50 Years

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Oct 11, 6:19 PM (ET)

A California-born convert to Islam, accused of making a series of al Qaeda propaganda videos, became on Wednesday the first American charged with treason since the World War Two era, U.S. Justice Department officials said.

Fugitive Adam Gadahn, 28, who is believed to be in Pakistan, was accused of treason, which carries a maximum punishment of death, and providing material support to al Qaeda, they said.

According to the charges, Gadahn appeared in five videos broadcast between October 2004 and September 11, 2006, giving al Qaeda “aid and comfort ... with the intent to betray the United States.”

“Gadahn gave himself to our enemies in al Qaeda for the purpose of being a central part of their propaganda machine,” Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty told a news conference.

“By making this choice, we believe Gadahn committed treason—perhaps the most serious offense for which any person can be tried under our Constitution,” he said. McNulty acknowledged that Gadahn appeared to be involved only in propaganda for the Islamic militant group, not in planning any attacks.

Gadahn converted to Islam from a Jewish-Christian family when he was 17 and a few years later moved to Pakistan. He was previously known as Adam Pearlman and grew up on a goat ranch outside Los Angeles.

The charges were contained in an indictment handed up in a federal court in California by a grand jury. The evidence against him in the indictment consisted entirely of the videos.

The FBI has been seeking to question Gadahn since May 2004. The FBI added him on Wednesday to its list of the most wanted terrorists and a U.S. State Department program offered up to a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest. In Los Angeles, Gadahn’s aunt, Nancy Pearlman, declined to comment, saying, “We are not giving any interviews.”

There were a number of treason cases after World War Two, including a trial in 1952, legal experts said. In one of the cases, an American woman, known as “Tokyo Rose,” was convicted of treason and later pardoned. She died in Chicago last month.

Justice Department officials denied the case was timed to deflect attention from the fallout over lewd computer messages sent by a former Republican congressman to young male aides, a scandal that may help Democrats seize control of Congress in the November 7 elections.

Editor-In-Chief

In Russia, reporters who criticize the government suddenly wind up very dead. The German leader expresses sympathy and concern but basically ignores the whole thing while the Russian leader expresses regret and calls for an investigation and a “roundup of all the usual suspects”. Washignton is silent. As are France and Britain.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. As the old Russian proverb goes, ”Deprive a mirror of its silver and even the czar won’t see his face.” And without reporters and freedom of the press, Putin becomes invisible. Nyet?

imageimagePutin Calls Reporter’s Murder Despicable
DRESDEN, Germany (YAHOO NEWS) - Tue Oct 10, 12:23 PM ET

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday denounced the murder of a journalist critical of the Kremlin as a “disgustingly cruel” crime that cannot go unpunished, but he also played down her influence as “very minor.”

In his first public comments about Saturday’s slaying of Anna Politkovskaya, Putin described the attack as a “disgustingly cruel crime which must not go unpunished, whoever committed it, and whatever motive they were pursuing.”

At the same time, however, he questioned the power of her work, saying she was known in human rights circles and in the West but “the level of her influence on political life in Russia was very minor.” Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke about Politkovskaya’s slaying, and she had stressed the necessity of a free press in democratic societies.

“It was again made clear by the Russian president that everything will be done to clear up this murder,” she said. “I think this is very important and a necessary signal to make clear that the freedom of those who report and write is a very important attribute of countries in which democracy develops.”

Putin had told President Bush in a phone conversation that authorities would do everything necessary to solve the case, the Kremlin said Monday. Politkovskaya, a sharp critic of Putin and the conduct of Russia’s war in Chechnya, was found shot to death at her Moscow apartment building in an apparent contract killing. Her death has sparked an international outcry about restrictions on press freedoms in Russia.

Politkovskaya had reported on abuses by forces of the Russian military and Moscow-backed government in Chechnya. Colleagues said she had been working on a story about torture and abductions in the Russian province, abuses she blamed on the Moscow-backed Chechen prime minister.

More than 1,000 mourners paid respects at Politkovskaya’s funeral Tuesday outside Moscow. No high-ranking Kremlin or government official made an appearance, although U.S. Ambassador William Burns attended. Members of a panel on press freedom at the Petersburg Dialogue forum that Putin and Merkel were to visit drafted an appeal to Russia’s chief prosecutor to investigate the slaying.

Michael Rutz, editor of Germany’s Rheinische Merkur newspaper, said Russian and German journalists were of one opinion: “On both sides we have the same feeling of the necessity of freedom, freedom for journalism and journalists.” “I am sure we will ask Mr. Putin to do everything he can to find the murderer, otherwise journalists in Russia will have to fear being murdered if they get in the way of certain interests,” Rutz said.

Russia’s prosecutor-general has taken charge of the investigation, but Politkovskaya’s colleagues have expressed doubts her slaying will be solved. Her newspaper has pledged to conduct an independent inquiry and offered a reward for information that would help solve the crime.

Million Dollar Baby

Well, well, well. Look whose hand is in the cookie jar this time. If it isn’t the Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) himself. And sung to the tune of $1.1 million smackeroos. Yowza! How’s about them big bucks? Jack Abramoff would be proud of Harry.

Yes, Democrats are obviously looking out for the little guy and fighting corruption in government as hard as they can. Bwah-hah-ha-ha-ha .... You know what they say about “Donks who live in glass houses” ... ?

imageimageReid Got $1M in Land Sale
(ABC NEWS) - October 11, 2006

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn’t personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat’s deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He’s never been charged with wrongdoing except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

Land deeds obtained by The Associated Press during a review of Reid’s business dealings show: The deal began in 1998 when Reid bought undeveloped residential property on Las Vegas’ booming outskirts for about $400,000. Reid bought one lot outright, and a second parcel jointly with Brown. One of the sellers was a developer who was benefiting from a government land swap that Reid supported. The seller never talked to Reid.

In 2001, Reid sold the land for the same price to a limited liability corporation created by Brown. The senator didn’t disclose the sale on his annual public ethics report or tell Congress he had any stake in Brown’s company. He continued to report to Congress that he personally owned the land.

After getting local officials to rezone the property for a shopping center, Brown’s company sold the land in 2004 to other developers and Reid took $1.1 million of the proceeds, nearly tripling the senator’s investment. Reid reported it to Congress as a personal land sale.

The complex dealings allowed Reid to transfer ownership, legal liability and some tax consequences to Brown’s company without public knowledge, but still collect a seven-figure payoff nearly three years later.

Reid hung up the phone when questioned about the deal during an AP interview last week.

The senator’s aides said no money changed hands in 2001 and that Reid instead got an ownership stake in Brown’s company equal to the value of his land. Reid continued to pay taxes on the land and didn’t disclose the deal because he considered it a “technical transfer,” they said. They also said they have no documents proving Reid’s stake in the company because it was an informal understanding between friends.

The 1998 purchase “was a normal business transaction at market prices,” Reid spokesman Jim Manley said. “There were several legal steps associated with the investment during those years that did not alter Senator Reid’s actual ownership interest in the land.”

Senate ethics rules require lawmakers to disclose on their annual ethics report all transactions involving investment properties regardless of profit or loss and to report any ownership stake in companies.

Kent Cooper, who oversaw government disclosure reports for federal candidates for two decades in the Federal Election Commission, said Reid’s failure to report the 2001 sale and his ties to Brown’s company violated Senate rules.

EVERYBODY PANIC!

Al-Qaeda? BushCo plot? North Korean kamikaze? Stupid, drunk pilot? Does anyone really know yet? What the heck! Let’s all go ahead and panic anyway! HELP! RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY! ARGH .... !!!!

Two Killed in High-Rise Plane Crash
Wednesday, 11 Oct 2006, 3:01 PM CDT

A small plane crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, killing at least two people and touching off a raging fire that rained flaming debris on the streets below, police said.

The FBI and the Homeland Security Department said there was no evidence it was a terrorist attack. “The initial indication is that there is a terrible accident,” Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said. Nevertheless, the crash at the Belaire overlooking the East River struck fear in a city devastated by the attacks of Sept. 11 five years ago.

image image

Sirens echoed across the neighborhood as emergency workers and ambulances rushed in with stretchers. Broken glass and debris were strewn around the neighborhood.

“There’s a sense of helplessness,” said Sandy Teller, watching from his apartment a block away. “Cots and gurneys, waiting. It’s a mess.” Another witness told Fox affiliate WNYW that he saw several people run from the building shortly after he heard a loud crash that “sounded like a Harley-Davidson,” some with bloodied faces.

Flames shot from the windows on two upper floors of building on East 72nd Street, about five miles from the World Trade Center. A pillar of black smoke rose over the city, and burning debris fell as firefighters shot water streams of water at the flames from the floors below. WNYW executive producer Sarah Graham was at the scene shortly after the collision.

“It’s unbelievable at this point,” Graham said in a telephone interview. “I am literally right across the street from this building. This dead-end street is all residential, all apartments. You’ve got people coming out of the building not knowing what happened to it. I just heard the chaos.” Added WNYW reporter John Deutzman: “There’s a massive hole in the side of this building.”

The blaze was extinguished in less than an hour. The aircraft struck the 20th floor with a loud bang, authorities and witnesses said. The Federal Aviation Administration said it was too early to determine what type of aircraft was involved, or what might have caused the crash in the middle of a hazy, overcast October afternoon.

The tower was built in the late 1980s and is situated near Sotheby’s auction house. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million. All three New York City-area airports continued to operate normally, FAA spokesman Jim Peters said. And the Homeland Security spokesman said, “There is no specific or credible intelligence suggesting a threat to the homeland at this time.”

UPDATE I: Plane was piloted by NY Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle ....

imageimageLidle Dies As Plane Crashes
Into Manhattan High-rise

NEW YORK (ESPN) - A small plane with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle aboard crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, killing Lidle and three other people and raining flaming debris on sidewalks, authorities said.

Federal Aviation Administration records showed the single-engine plane was registered to Lidle, and FBI reports show that Lidle’s passport was found at the scene. The FBI believed Lidle was the only person aboard the plane and the other three deaths occurred inside the building.

Lidle crossed the picket line at spring training in 1995 following the ‘94 players’ strike. He pitched for seven major-league teams beginning in 1997 with the Mets. He also pitched for Tampa Bay, Oakland, Toronto, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and finally the Yankees, who acquired him before the trade deadline in July along with outfielder Bobby Abreu. For his career, he was 82-72 with two saves and a 4.57 ERA.

UPDATE II: FAA is reporting a Mayday from the plane before it crashed ...

(CNN) - There was a mayday, FAA reports, from the pilot involving a problem with fuel before the aircraft crashed into the 50-story high-rise on Manhattan’s East Side.

Witness Henry Neimark, who is also a pilot, said he saw a plane flying at relatively low altitude which seemed to come from LaGuardia International Airport.

“It looked to me in retrospect that this was a pilot desperately trying to get back to the airport and land safely on a runway,” he said.

“The fire was raging out of two windows,” witness Sarah Steiner told CNN. “It looks like the plane just flew into someone’s living room.”

Steiner said fires were burning on the ground. “It looks like the plane just flew into someone’s living room there.”

“It looks as if the aircraft didn’t go into the building but fell down,” she said. “It may be part of the debris burning on the ground.”

Chill Out

Brrrrrr. We’re feeling the first effects of the “Polar Express” here in St. Louis this morning. Cold, drizzly rain is coming down outside and temps are in the low 50’s, projected to drop to freezing (32°F) tonight. It’s too early to break out the winter duds.

This must be more of that glowball warming thing that’s going around. Things will supposedly warm back up next week ... or so the weather shamans say. I’m still waiting for them to check the chicken entrails and let me know what kind of winter we’re going to have.

Then again, between Al Gore and Punxatawney Phil we already have 100% accurate predictions for the next hundred years, right ... ?

Fireworks In Baghdad

The enemy hides among the populace and strikes without warning. This is no organized army we face but a band of murderous thugs. The only way to stop it is to make a few examples. Public hangings or beheadings, followed by burial in pig pits. Sound like a plan? It may be the only way out.

The majority of people in Iraq may want democracy and freedom but there is a small minority that needs an asshole like Saddam Hussein in charge to keep them under control. Even Saddam, with his ruthless purges and mass murders had to constantly watch for assassination plots and attacks.

Our troops are sitting ducks for the 1% of the population that is determined to continue these attacks. The Iraqi people are getting sick and tired of the violence and the American people aren’t far behind.

The problem is the bleeding heart liberals back in the US will never allow the military in Iraq to adopt a “take no prisoners, kill them all and let Allah sort them out” proactive approach. The liberals are against the war and simultaneously against the only solution for that war.

Does Bush have the ‘nads to go up against the liberals at home and solve the problem in Iraq or will he continue to appease the Leftards while madmen take potshots at our troops from behind concealment? Good question. And the answer is .... ?

imageimageInsurgents Attack U.S. Ammo Dump in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - October 11, 2006, 7:08 AM EDT

A massive fire at an ammunition dump at a U.S. base in southern Baghdad was sparked by a mortar round fired by insurgents, which set off a series of explosions from detonating tank and artillery shells that shook buildings miles away, the U.S. military said Wednesday.

The 82mm round was fired from a nearby residential area and hit Forward Operating Base Falcon around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington said. No injuries were reported.

“Intelligence indicates that civilians aligned with a militia organization were responsible for last night’s mortar attack,” Withington said in a statement without elaborating further on what group it may have been. The Islamic Army in Iraq, a nationalist anti-occupation insurgent group, claimed responsibility earlier in a statement posted on the Internet.

“With the help of God, the mortar and rocket squads of the Islamic Army have shelled a U.S. Army base with two rockets and three mortar shells,” said the statement posted on a Web site known to be used by insurgents. “The rockets and shells fell on ammunition dumps causing them to explode. Sounds of explosions were heard in Baghdad.”

The authenticity of the statement could not be immediately verified. There were no injuries reported, and Withington said the attack had no strategic effect. “The attack does not affect ongoing Baghdad security operations in the focus areas, and the loss of ammunition will not degrade the operational capability of the” U.S. forces in Baghdad, he said. “The base’s essential services were not disrupted.”

Explosions from detonating tank and artillery ordnance and small-arms ammunition stored at the site went off for hours after the fire erupted. Large flames and smoke rose from the region, and flashes from the blasts and showers of sparks were visible on the horizon from several miles away in central Baghdad, where the force of the blasts could be felt.

Sticks And Stones

Hmmmmmm .... This is an interesting development. The internet must have finally come of age if the lawyers have arrived. $11.3 million is a lot of money by anybody’s reckoning. Things may be about to get real nasty ....

imageimageJury Awards $11.3M Over
Defamatory Internet Posts

(USA TODAY) - 10/10/2006 10:07 PM ET

A Florida woman has been awarded $11.3 million in a defamation lawsuit against a Louisiana woman who posted messages on the Internet accusing her of being a “crook,” a “con artist” and a “fraud.”

Legal analysts say the Sept. 19 award by a jury in Broward County, Fla. — first reported Friday by the Daily Business Review — represents the largest such judgment over postings on an Internet blog or message board. Lyrissa Lidsky, a University of Florida law professor who specializes in free-speech issues, calls the award “astonishing.”

Lidsky says the case could represent a coming trend in court fights over online messages because the woman who won the damage award, Sue Scheff of Weston, Fla., pursued the case even though she knew the defendant, Carey Bock of Mandeville, La., has no hope of paying such an award. Bock, who had to leave her home for several months because of Hurricane Katrina, couldn’t afford an attorney and didn’t show up for the trial.

“What’s interesting about this case is that (Scheff) was so vested in being vindicated, she was willing to pay court costs,” Lidsky says. “They knew before trial that the defendant couldn’t pay, so what’s the point in going to the jury?”

Scheff says she wanted to make a point to those who unfairly criticize others on the Internet. “I’m sure (Bock) doesn’t have $1 million, let alone $11 million, but the message is strong and clear,” Scheff says. “People are using the Internet to destroy people they don’t like, and you can’t do that.”

The dispute between the two women arose after Bock asked Scheff for help in withdrawing Bock’s twin sons from a boarding school in Costa Rica. Bock had disagreed with her ex-husband over how to deal with the boys’ behavior problems. Against Bock’s wishes, he had sent the boys to the boarding school.

Scheff, who operates a referral service called Parents Universal Resource Experts, says she referred Bock to a consultant who helped Bock retrieve her sons. Afterward, Bock became critical of Scheff and posted negative messages about her on the Internet site Fornits.com, where parents with children in boarding schools for troubled teens confer with one another.

Through The Looking Glass

If any of our troops are getting bored with all that flat, dusty landscape in Iraq, there is an alternative. You could ask for a transfer to Afghanistan where you’ll be living with the mountain goats, slogging up and down one steep hill after another playing “Where’s Osama?” ....

(Skipper’s Note: If it weren’t for the “injuns” popping out of caves with guns, I’d love to be doing this. Hiking through mountain terrain in wilderness areas is something I love doing. This picture is tugging at me. Maybe CENTCOM might consider embedding me for a few weeks with the troops to take pictures? I promise to keep my head down and my ass out of the way. Pretty please!)

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
