Guy Heaven

imageimageIt’s Fall finally and the part of the planet where I live is finally starting to cool down. Temps outside here in St. Louis at midday are in the high 70’s and a cool breeze is blowing out of the West. Pretty soon the leaves will start to turn all kind of colors and fall down to make a mess in the yard.

The season of fun is upon us as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are not far off. Everyone is back from summer vacation and the engine of America is chugging along at full speed again.

WAIT! Something is missing! Hmmmmm. I got it ...

FOOTBALL! YAY!

Naw, I’m not talking about that overpaid, over-drugged crap in the NFL. College football is where all the fun is and you won’t find a more splintered audience anywhere. For instance, I always spend every college football season rooting for two teams: The University Of Alabama (my alma mater - ROLL TIDE!) and whoever is playing Auburn (BOO-HISS!). I have had to add Troy State University to the list since I received my Masters Degree (Computer Science) there in 1994 and TSU just moved up to Division 1-A a few years ago. Now they’re playing the big schools too. GO TROJANS! (a condom for a mascot?)

So I started ticking off my football checklist today: (1) 55-inch Hitachi big screen TV in good condition? Check! (2) Homemade beer aged to perfection in large quantities (at least four kegs) and ready to pop open? Check! (3) No women around to distract me from the games? Check! (DARN!) (4) Ample supply of nacho chips and HOT salsa (3 bags and 6 jars)? Check! All in place. Ready! Set! Hut 1! Hut 2! .... HOLD THE PHONE! Something is still missing!

Yes, I have finally decided to subscribe to ESPN GamePlan so I can catch ALL the games every week. YAY! At $129.00 for the full 12-week season, it’s a bargain. Now I can safely sink into the recliner on Saturdays and drown in football all afternoon and into the evening. You gals need to find something to occupy yourselves for a while. Us guys are in Guy Heaven for now .... pass the chips and get me another beer ....

Quote Of The Week

“I mean Cuban, Puerto Rican, they are all very hot. They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it.”

-- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, March 3, 2006

Of course the Los Angeles Times obtained a copy of Schwarzenegger’s remarks and started a firestorm among Leftists in California who thought the governor’s words were racist. Naturally , the Governator had to issue a public apology to appease the morons. For the life of me, I cannot find anything in the statement that even remotely resembles racism. It sounds like a complement to me. When will this madness end?

Saturday Silliness

The “Reverend” Fred Phelps has a bone to pick with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central’s Daily Show. This video was captured from Phelp’s hate-filled web site. Democratic Party Hypocricy

imageimageYou gotta hand it to the Democrats and Leftists (redundacy alert). They never miss a chance to to act like morally bankrupt, irresponsible, arrogant, sanctimonious ... pricks. Do any of you recall the public speeches and outbursts against Michael Moore’s movie “Fahrenheit 911” when it hit movie screens all over the country right before the 2004 elections by these same Democrats? I sure don’t. If memory serves, they all went to see the movie and crowed about how great it was. Hell, they even invited Moore to their convention in Boston.

The fact is that Moore’s movie was 100% fictional with clips pasted together to make President Bush and Republicans look bad. It was based on absolutely nothing but the greedy, deranged mind of Michael Moore. Yet these same Democrats loved it. Now, ABC is preparing to air “The Path To 9/11” on Sunday and Monday and the Donks suddenly rise up in righteous indignation? ABC admits it is not a documentary (unlike Moore who claimed his decidely partisan movie was a pure documentary). ABC says it is a fictionalized account of the events leading up to 9/11 and was based on findings in the 9/11 Commission Report.

How many movies have been “based on” non-fiction documents or events and were sold to a wide audience by adding a fictional plot and characters? Hundreds, if not thousands. And yet the Donks suddenly are offended and angry over a new one? Even to the point of threatening to take legal action against ABC?

Sadly, ABC is probably going to cave into these morons. There is a flurry of editing going on even now to try to appease the Donks. What happened to freedom of speech? Are these people engaging in censorship? Of course they are. They don’t want anyone to see any movie that might make them look bad so they issue threats and the top Democratic leadership in the Senate drafts this epic piece of fascist oppression below.

Read this and then decide if you think these arrogant fools need to be in power in Washington ... and remember their actions in November. After reading this drivel, I’d rather vote for a trained monkey than any of these hypocrites ....

Mr. Robert A. Iger
President and CEO
The Walt Disney Company
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank CA 91521

Dear Mr. Iger,

We write with serious concerns about the planned upcoming broadcast of “The Path to 9/11” mini-series on Sept. 10 and 11. Countless reports from experts on 9/11 who have viewed the program indicate numerous and serious inaccuracies that will undoubtedly serve to misinform the American people about the tragic events surrounding the terrible attacks of that day. Furthermore, the manner in which this program has been developed, funded, and advertised suggests a partisan bent unbecoming of a major company like Disney and a major and well-respected news organization like ABC. We therefore urge you to cancel this broadcast to cease Disney’s plans to use it as a teaching tool in schools across America through Scholastic. Presenting such deeply flawed and factually inaccurate misinformation to the American public and to children would be a gross miscarriage of your corporate and civic responsibility to the law, to your shareholders, and to the nation.

The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest. Nowhere is this public interest obligation more apparent than in the duty of broadcasters to serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events.

Disney and ABC claim this program to be based on the 9/11 Commission Report and are using that assertion as part of the promotional campaign for it. The 9/11 Commission is the most respected American authority on the 9/11 attacks, and association with it carries a special responsibility. Indeed, the very events themselves on 9/11, so tragic as they were, demand extreme care by any who attempt to use those events as part of an entertainment or educational program. To quote Steve McPhereson, president of ABC Entertainment, “When you take on the responsibility of telling the story behind such an important event, it is absolutely critical that you get it right.”

Unfortunately, it appears Disney and ABC got it totally wrong.

Mini-series Ignites Firestorm On Left

Did Bill Clinton ignore the whole building storm in the Middle East? Was he distracted by the Monica Lewinsky scandal? Did Democrats in the Senate and House spend too much time enjoying their majority to pay attention to the first attack on the WTC in the early 90’s? What in heck was ABC thinking when they decided to create a mini-series to look at these facts?

Most of us already knew what a lying horn-dog Bill Clinton was and how the only real wars he fought during his presidency were in Waco, Texas against a religious cult and in south Florida over Elian Gonzalez. Not to mention the cluster f**k that took place in Yugoslavia. So why is everyone surprised that this is being made into a TV series?

The long and short of it is that Slick Willie Clinton is having a hissy fit over the movie. That is not surprising since his only real concern these days is his “legacy”. Madeline Albright is up in arms, claiming it is a total falsification. Even the NY Times had to weigh in with a story that repeats over and over that it is only a fictional dramatization, i.e. not to be believed.

Finally, and most tellingly, the Senate Democratic leadership has urged ABC to cancel showing the mini-series, even going so far as to threaten to cancel Disney’s broadcast license (Disney owns ABC) unless the show is cancelled. The most ridiculous reaction of all is coming from the blogosphere. The DailyKOS leftards are having a conniption fit, which probably was to be expected (thanks to LGF for the tip).

Kinda makes you wonder what all these Donks and Liberals are so afraid of, don’t it? Could it be the story is too close to the truth? Do the Liberal sheep need to be told that their leaders in the Democratic party let all this happen long before Bush came into office? It will come as a surprise to most of them and they probably won’t believe it. The rest of us already knew better ....

ABC Terrorism Drama Stirs Controversy
NEW YORK (AP) - September 8, 2006

“The Path to 9/11” will break your heart. It will leave you unnerved, even more than before. And angrier than ever. A five-hour miniseries that dramatizes a decade’s worth of events leading up to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, this film is plenty gripping. It doesn’t forgo artistry for polemics.

Even so, it drives home, step by step, a message any viewer can understand: The people in charge of keeping you safe failed the nation monumentally. Systemically. Shamefully. And continue to, five years after what should have been a terribly sufficient wake-up call.

Then “The Path to 9/11” leaves the viewer with a chilling coda: a recap of the “report card” issued last December by the 9/11 Commission, which accused the government of failing to protect the nation against another attack, and assigned failing grades in five areas, with a dozen Ds and just one A (actually, A-minus).

That might be the more valuable focus of your concern as clashing voices from the blogosphere embrace or decry “The Path to 9/11” as a right-wing portrayal that slams President Clinton more than George W. Bush.

image

Airing commercial-free on ABC Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m. EDT (with a 9/11-related followup from ABC News at 10 p.m. Monday), the miniseries claims to draw from a number of sources, including the 2004 report of the 9/11 Commission, which was established to investigate government missteps that led to the attacks.

The scope of “The Path to 9/11” is vast, with 247 speaking roles, a $40 million budget and more than 300 sets (including a seven-story-high base of the World Trade Center), according to the director, David Cunningham ("To End All Wars"), who said he shot 550 hours of film for the project.

If the miniseries has a star, it’s Harvey Keitel. He plays FBI counter-terrorism expert John O’Neill, whose dogged efforts to contain the al-Qaida threat were rebuffed by those above him, and who, upon retiring at age 49 to be director of security for the World Trade Center, died two weeks later at the hands of the people he had worked so hard to defeat.

Other familiar actors include Patricia Heaton as Barbara Bodine, Ambassador to Yemen; Donnie Wahlberg as a key undercover CIA agent, and Penny Johnson Jerald ("24") as Condoleezza Rice.

Playing Richard Clarke, the counterterrorism czar to four presidents, Stephen Root ("News Radio") gets one of the film’s most stirring speeches during a high-level meeting in Washington. Referring to the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993 that killed six, he declares, “We have to imagine ourselves on a future day when we have failed to act and hundreds of Americans lay dead. We have to do something now.”

But “no” and “that’s the best we can do” are all-too-typical replies heard in the film when anyone proposes heightened efforts. In a posting on ThinkProgress.org this week, Clarke disputed another scene that had Clinton officials refusing to give the go-ahead to American agents in Afghanistan who were in position to capture Osama bin Laden - then abruptly hanging up the phone on them.

It’s a shocking occurrence. Presumably Clarke, now an ABC News consultant, will have a chance to reiterate his argument that it never happened when he appears Monday on ABC News’ “9/11/06: Where Things Stand.”

Perhaps another guest, Thomas Kean (the former Republican governor of New Jersey, who was chairman of the 9/11 Commission and served as senior consultant for “The Path to 9/11") will defend the film’s evenhandedness. Never mind how talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has interpreted the film for his listeners as demonstrating that, in the Clinton era, “we didn’t do diddly-squat,” while the Bush administration was subsequently “caught up and sort of hamstrung by the existing procedures” and “hasn’t had a chance to change them.”

ABC responded to the brewing controversy Tuesday only by saying that its miniseries is “a dramatization, not a documentary, drawn from a variety of sources, including the 9/11 Commission report, other published materials and from personal interviews.”

The statement also noted how the events that led to 9/11 “originally sparked great debate, so it’s not surprising that a movie surrounding those events has revived the debate.” But is this really debate, or does it verge on the partisan infighting that routinely disregards the vital issues themselves?

- More on the story here ...

Lamest Excuse Of All Time

Those wacky Euro-Peons! What will they think of next? They come over here, get crazy and then come up with some of the lamest excuses ever invented. This cat went way beyond the “dog ate my homework” category and all the way out to the ”I just wanted a hamburger” excuse which was used today by Paris Hilton (who?) after she was arrested for DUI. Which do you think is more entertaining: the goat excuse or the hamburger excuse?

imageimageSpeeding Driver Blames Lack Of Goats
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Wed Sep 6, 2006 12:17pm ET

A Swiss driver caught speeding in Canada explained that he had been taking advantage of the ability to drive fast without hitting a goat, police said on Wednesday.

The driver was caught traveling 161 km/hr (100 mph) in a 100 km/hr zone in eastern Ontario Sunday.

“A motorist from Switzerland, used to driving around hills and mountains, takes advantage of the ability to go faster without risking hitting a goat,” read the traffic officer’s notes of the incident. Local police said it was the first time they had ever heard of such an excuse.

“I’ve never been to Switzerland but obviously they must have a problem with that there,” said police spokesman Joel Doiron, adding that in his 20 years of service he had never found a goat on the highways of eastern Ontario. The Swiss driver’s imaginative excuse did him little good. Police issued him a C$360 ($330) speeding ticket.
