Blubber-Butt Bloviates

Not to put too fine a point on it but if President Bush had followed the example of John Kennedy, Bush would have gathered together thousands of Iraqi expatriates, given them weapons, promised air support when they invaded Iraq and then pulled out at the last mnute, leaving them to die on the beaches. Or am I the only one who remembers the Bay Of Pigs invasion ... ?

Kennedy Book Blasts Bush, ‘Preventive War’
April 5, 2006

WASHINGTON (BOSTON GLOBE)—In a forthcoming book, Senator Edward M. Kennedy invokes the leadership of his brothers during the Cuban missile crisis to launch a sharp new attack on President Bush, declaring that Bush should have followed the example of President John F. Kennedy and his attorney general, Robert F. Kennedy, in forging a diplomatic resolution to the standoff with Saddam Hussein.

The Massachusetts Democrat writes that his brothers were right to resist advice urging them to launch a preemptive strike on Fidel Castro when missiles aimed at the United States were discovered in Cuba in 1962. They correctly argued that ‘’a first strike was inconsistent with American values,” and would be a ‘’Pearl Harbor in reverse,” he writes.

Kennedy writes that preemptive war may be justified to prevent ‘’an imminent attack on our country.” But he puts the Iraq war in a different category that he calls ‘’preventive war,” which he condemns.

‘’The premeditated nature of preventive attacks and preventive wars makes them anathema to well-established international principles against aggression,” Kennedy writes in ‘’America Back on Track,” which is scheduled to be released April 18.

Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, Kennedy says, was an example of ‘’preventive war”—attacking a nation to prevent it from developing the ability to threaten the United States. A similar manner of thinking led the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor in 1941, he writes, since Japan was seeking to block the US military buildup in the Pacific.

‘’Preventive war is consistent with neither our values nor our national security,” he writes. ‘’It gives other nations an excuse to violate fundamental principles of civilized international behavior, and the downward spiral we initiate could well engulf the whole planet.”

Madmen To The South Of Us

Let’s see .... Evil Master Plan #4: (1) yell ‘BOO!’ at the French oil companies then when the frogs panic, grab their oil fields; (2) take the oil profits and go shopping in Russia for military hardware to defend your country against an imaginary US invasion; (3) continue to spout drivel about the evil Americans in the hope that one day your face will replace that of Che Guevara on all those cool t-shirts. Yep! Sounds like a plan to me ...

imageimageChavez Grabs Oil Field To Fund Anti-US Campaign
04/04/2006 11:33pm EDT

(LONDON TELEGRAPH)—Venezuela’s president Hugo Chavez yesterday seized control of a French-run oil field, strengthening his control of the country’s vast oil wealth, the lifeblood of his “Bolivarian Revolution”.

Total SA confirmed from its Paris headquarters that the state oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela SA, “took control of our operations” during the weekend after it refused to turn the site over to a state-run joint venture.

Mr Chavez has decided to redefine the terms under which foreign companies can operate in Venezuela, which has the largest oil reserves outside of the Middle East.

The new terms state that the Venezuelan government must have a 60 per cent share in any venture. Sixteen companies have bowed to the demands by the president, among them BP and Shell, but Exxon Mobile, the world’s largest oil company, sold its interests instead.

Total and ENI, of Italy, have refused to sign accords, hence the seizure of Total’s concession. The Venezuelan government has said that both companies owe taxes and face being shut down.

Mr Chavez is using his oil windfall to promote a social reform programme, arms purchases and to engage in anti-US diplomacy, selling oil at below market rates to detach Latin American nations from Washington’s orbit.

Venezuela (BBC)

Venezuela has taken delivery of three Russian-built military helicopters - the first of a total of 15 it has so far ordered from Moscow. President Hugo Chavez said they would help to protect Venezuela if the US ever mounted an invasion. Mr Chavez also repeated that he was ready to buy Russian fighter jets.

Washington has dismissed claims of a possible invasion as ridiculous and says Mr Chavez’s military purchases pose a threat to regional stability. A crowd of Russian and Venezuelan generals and diplomats was treated to an air show, displaying the strengths of the Russian-built helicopters. A group of around 20 parachutists jumped in formation out of the olive green MI-17 helicopters during Monday’s ceremony.

President Chavez said Venezuela’s latest purchases could be used to transport parachute troops quickly into combat. This would be ideal for a war of resistance, Mr Chavez said, a reference to his often repeated concerns that the US may want to invade Venezuela to seize its oil reserves. Army Commander Gen Raul Baduel said Venezuela planned to buy a total of 33 helicopters from Russia.

Venezuela has also agreed to buy a total of 100,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles from Russia. Mr Chavez also repeated his accusation that the US had blocked a deal to buy training aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer, Embraer, because the Brazilian planes contained protected American technology.

“Nothing and nobody will stop us from making our country’s armed forces stronger,” he said, while stressing that Venezuela was not preparing to invade anybody. The BBC’s Greg Morsbach in Caracas says Mr Chavez’s words may do little to dispel fears in Washington that Venezuela is stepping up its arms expenditure and is upsetting the balance of power in Latin America.

Throwing In The Towel

I can’t say I didn’t see this one coming. The Democratic Party war machine has been running in high gear for months to get DeLay. Here’s my prediction: in the coming months, look for Texas prosecutor (and Democratic party member) Ronnie Earle to drop charges against DeLay or at the very least, DeLay will be proven innocent. I also predict you’ll not hear a single word of it in the MSM.

April 4, 2006

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas, one of the most powerful members of Congress, is now ready to call it quits in the face of mounting legal problems and a tough reelection campaign.

Twelve years after helping Republicans win control of the House of Representatives, the former majority leader, long called “The Hammer” for his hardball political tactics, intends on Tuesday to announce he is ending his bid for a 12th term and will leave Congress as early as next month, party aides said.

DeLay’s decision highlights the problems faced by President George W. Bush’s fellow Republicans in the scandal-rocked Congress. “Tom DeLay’s announcement is just the beginning of the reckoning of the Republican culture of corruption that has gripped Washington for too long,” Democratic Party spokeswoman Karen Finney said.

One DeLay aide said the politician—who in the past two years has been admonished, indicted and forced from House leadership—plans to make the announcement on his congressional Web site. “The fear of the party losing the seat was a driving force in his decision,” another aide said.

DeLay informed his staff and House Republican leaders of his decision on Monday—at about the same time he discussed his plans in an interview with Time magazine. “I’m going to announce tomorrow that I’m not running for reelection and that I’m going to leave Congress,” DeLay told the magazine, which posted the interview on its Web site.

If You Can’t Beat ‘Em …

File this one under “A” for Absolutely-Insane. When things like this start happening in a society then that society has become a self-parody. The Arabs need to wake up and smell the coffee before it’s too late. If all the Saudi women took this drastic step then we would have no reason to worry about radical ragheads any longer, would we? We just wait thirty or forty years and they’ll all be gone. Perhaps this is another Bushitlerchimp plan to rid the world of Muslims and steal all the oil? Mheh-heh ...

Tired Of Male Domination, 5 Saudi Women Change Sex
Mon Apr 3, 11:05 AM ET

RIYADH (Reuters) - Tired of playing second fiddle to men in conservative Saudi Arabia, five women decided if you can’t beat them, join them. Al Watan newspaper said the five women underwent sex change surgery abroad over the past 12 months after they developed a “psychological complex” due to male domination.

Women in Saudi Arabia, which adopts an austere interpretation of Islam, are not allowed to drive or even go to public places unaccompanied by a male relative. The newspaper quoted a senior cleric as saying the authorities have to fill what he described as a legal vacuum by issuing laws against sex change operations.

An interior ministry official told al Watan such cases are examined by religious authorities, and sometimes by psychologists, but those who undergo sex change are never arrested.

Having A Bad Hair Day

- AP: “McKinney Case Goes to Federal Prosecutor”

- WSB-TV: “McKinney Admits Misusing Taxpayer Money”

WASHINGTON (CNN)—As U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Georgia, faces possible criminal charges for a Wednesday altercation with a Capitol Police officer, one of her lawyers said Friday that the real issues were “sex, race and Ms. McKinney’s progressiveness.”

In a news conference featuring actor Danny Glover and singer Harry Belafonte, McKinney said she would be exonerated and that “this whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female, black congresswoman.”

McKinney issued a statement of regret for the incident but no apology. She and her lawyers have repeatedly declared that she was a victim of inappropriate touching and racism and said they were considering pursuing civil action against the officer.

She had little else to say, citing the ongoing investigation into her allegedly striking a police officer after he failed to recognize her at a security checkpoint and tried to stop her from passing.

“Cynthia McKinney is a disgrace to her race ... the human race, that is.”

Hector and Maria

Jim at the Parkway Rest Stop has a great analogy.  Here’s a preview:

It started out as just another workday for Tom Armstrong. He arose at the usual time, showered, shaved, combed his hair, brushed his teeth and got dressed for work. He headed down the stairs for his daily blood pressure pill with OJ. As usual, he’d buy coffee at the nearby convenience store and sip it during the forty-minute drive to the office.

When he reached the bottom of the stairs, he turned toward the dining room, and he saw a rather dirty looking stranger sitting at his dining room table drinking a cup of coffee and reading a foreign language newspaper. The man appeared to be in his late twenties and was in need of a shave. And, he was drinking his coffee from Tom’s favorite weekend coffee cup.

The man looked up from the newspaper and said, “Good morning,” and Tom stopped dead in his tracks, simultaneously frightened and angry.

Tom: “Who the hell are you, and what are you doing in my house?”

Hector: “My name’s Hector. There’s some coffee left. You want some?”

Tom: “How did you get in here?”

Hector: “I was going to come in the front door, but you’ve got a good lock on it, so I went around the back. Man, you need a better lock on that door.”

Killer Storm

It was all over in about thirty minutes. I left the apartment around 4:30pm yesterday to go pick up lease papers at the complex office and grab some takeout at KFC for supper. All day long we had bright sunny skies and temps in the mid-70’s. When I left the complex office, I noticed the sky had turned black as night with an ugly, boiling purple mass spreading outward over my head. I started humming the theme music from “Ghostbusters”.

As I headed to the local KFC about a mile away, it started to rain. Just about the time I pulled up to the order window all hell broke loose. Wind started rocking my 3-ton Grand Cherokee, debris came flying overhead from someone’s roof and marble-sized hail started pounding down on me. The Jeep shook and bounced as more signs and tree limbs went flying overhead. Like an idiot, I just sat there and kept screaming at the little speaker to order my chicken. By the time I pulled out of the parking lot with my supper, the scene from “Ghostbusters” was over and Gozar The Destroyer had moved on into Illinois. Are we having fun yet ... ?

Two Killed As Storm Batters St. Louis
April 2, 2006

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

A fast-moving storm packing powerful winds tore through the St. Louis area Sunday afternoon, killed at least two people, damaged buildings and cut electricity for up to 270,000 customers across Missouri and Illinois. One man was killed by a falling tree while walking on a trail in Castlewood State Park near Ballwin, said Tracy Panus, a spokeswoman for St. Louis County police. She would not identify the victim Sunday night.

Another person was killed when part of the roof of a K&G Clothing Store in Fairview Heights collapsed. Elsewhere in Missouri, the violent weather “destroyed just about everything” in Caruthersville, the Pemiscot County seat, dispatcher Dorothy Hale said. Dark thunderclouds rolled in from the west shortly after 5 p.m., uprooting trees and snapping power lines in St. Louis County and the Metro East, where some of the worst damage was reported.

Emergency officials say the same storm system also killed 14 people in west Tennessee, the Associated Press reported. The storm’s fury spared few parts of the bistate area. It carried winds gusting up to 70 mph in St. Charles County and formed what may have been tornadoes in Randolph County, Ill., according to the National Weather Service. Tornadoes may have touched down near Junction City, Ill., and in Randolph County in Illinois, meteorologists said. The weather service said softball-size hail also was reported in some areas.

Forecasters called for breezy weather today, including wind gusts up to 35 mph and temperatures in the mid-50s. But more showers and thunderstorms - perhaps severe - return to the forecast for Wednesday night. Sunday’s storm dropped little rain - only a half-inch at Lambert Field - but brought powerful winds that knocked down trees and damaged houses and businesses. Power was out to as many 158,000 homes in the St. Louis area. Crews were working to restore electricity late Sunday night, and additional crews were called from Kansas City to help with the work.

Hypocricy At ACLU

Lease Signed For Muslim Youth Camp
March 23, 2006

North Liberty, Iowa (DES MOINES REGISTER)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has signed a lease for up to 25 years with a group that wants to build a Muslim youth camp at Lake Coralville. The lease allows the Cedar Rapids-based Muslim Youth Camps of America to build on 114 acres of federal land. Construction can start once the group works out details with county and state regulators, the corps said Wednesday.

Plans for the $934,000 camp north of North Liberty call for lodging up to 60 campers ages 10 to 17 in cabins and tents plus staffers during the summer and up to 40 per night in the offseason. When completed, the camp will include a 2,400 square-foot lodge, a beach, recreation trails, five cabins, five tent pods and a bathroom.

And what did the ACLU have to say about this Muslim Youth Camp on federal land? You may be shocked to discover they are perfectly fine with the idea ...

These statements, including the fact that the proposed site will contain of a 36-foot dome-covered prayer tower, has not fazed the ACLU. Concerning the matter, the ICLU, the Iowa branch of the ACLU (who in March of 2000 condemned a proposal by 12 legislators to require posting of the Ten Commandments in the Iowa State Senate chamber) had this to say: “There is no establishment clause violation in government permitting the building of a structure that resembles a mosque or church…we are unaware of any cases involving governmental religious displays based on the theory that certain public architecture is an endorsement of one religion over another…this is not the case in which to try that argument out….”

Somehow that doesn’t quite square with the ACLU’s decision to shut down the Boy Scouts in San Diego and prevent them from using public land because the ACLU deemed the BSA to be a “religious group” ...

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Tom Homann Law Association are demanding that the City of San Diego stop subsidizing the activities of the Boy Scouts as long as that organization persists in discriminating on the basis of religion and sexual orientation. In a letter delivered this morning, the two organizations demanded that the City Council and Mayor terminate the City’s leases under which the Boy Scouts operate their headquarters in city-owned Balboa Park for $1 per year and receive rent-free use of facilities on city-owned property on Fiesta Island.

- Go get the rest of the story at Stop The ACLU.

There’s more at Little Green Footballs and from Joe Kaufman at Front Page Magazine and at Militant Islam Monitor.

Beavis & Butthead In New Orleans

I have two questions about this: (1) What church do these two “reverends” belong to? and (2) Why don’t they get real jobs and stop stirring up trouble for everyone? Nobody’s voting rights are being violated. All the displaced people have to do is pick up a ballot and mail it in.

If anything, the real fraud will be perpetrated by the large number of people who have no plans whatsoever to move back. But that doesn’t matter to Jesse and Al. All they ever seem to care about is getting their faces on TV and screaming “oppression” at the drop of a hat. They just will not shut up until they have extorted money from someone. I wonder who their victim will be this time ...

imageimageJackson, Sharpton Rally for La. Voters
Sat Apr 1, 8:19 PM ET

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Hundreds of protesters led by the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton rallied Saturday, saying the city’s election plans will disenfranchise voters displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

The system of mail-in voting set up for the April 22 election for mayor and other positions in the city will make it difficult for voters living elsewhere to cast a ballot, Jackson and other activists said.

Black people, who made up 70 percent of New Orleans before Katrina hit, form a large majority of those still displaced.

“We want the Voting Rights Act,” Jackson said at a news conference before the rally. Black leaders have argued city elections could violate the landmark 1965 law designed to ensure voter equality.

The city election could have a broad effect nationwide, Sharpton said: “What happens in New Orleans will affect voting rights all over the United States.”

Jackson and other activists are demanding satellite polling places for displaced voters in cities outside New Orleans, and even outside Louisiana. Fewer than half of the city’s 460,000 residents have returned since the Aug. 29 storm flooded the city.

Activists also urged the release of updated lists of displaced voter addresses, a request the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied, saying it would breach privacy. About 2,000 people attended the rally and march, police said.

Citizens On Patrol

They’re back on the border in Arizona, trying to help stem the flow of illegal aliens into America. The ACLU hates them. The illegals already in this country are marching and protesting. No one wants to obey the law ... except the MinuteMen. This is all wrong. Why won’t our government protect our borders? Somebody in Washington better wake up soon. Most Americans are sick and tired of this blatant disregard for the rule of law.

imageimageMinutemen Reopen Border Control Effort
April 2, 2006, 12:22 AM EST

THREE POINTS, Ariz. (AP)

Minuteman volunteers concerned about the continued flow of illegal immigrants across the border from Mexico gathered Saturday with lawn chairs, binoculars and cell phones for a new monthlong campaign aimed at raising public awareness.

A year after their first watch-and-report operation along the border in southeastern Arizona, members of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps embarked on a much larger effort in this state’s busy migrant-smuggling corridor.

“I’m concerned about what’s not being done by the government—hasn’t been done for ages, apparently,” said J. Glenn Sorensen, a retired school administrator now living in Flagstaff. Sorensen, who was not involved last year, said he thinks the organization has already accomplished part of its purpose, “to draw national attention to an insecure border. I don’t think anybody wants to close the border—I certainly don’t. Basically, I think they need to be secure.”

No one in the group had any illusions about their campaign’s effectiveness, since it targets a relatively short section of the border for just a month. However, it comes at a time when Congress is debating changes to federal immigration laws, which have drawn supporters of legitimizing illegal immigrants to demonstrations across the country.

“This is like sticking a finger in the dike,” said Ken Raymond, a retired electrical engineer and airplane mechanic from Tucson. Yet some immigrants were apprehended. Minutemen volunteers in New Mexico alerted the Border Patrol to a group of immigrants Saturday. “We hadn’t been on the line more than 30 minutes when we spotted our first group of seven,” said Bob Wright, director of the state’s Minuteman group.

At a rally of at least 200 mostly older men and women at a remote southern Arizona ranch Saturday afternoon, politicians and activists opposed to illegal immigration gave fiery speeches calling for more border control. Don Goldwater, a Republican candidate for Arizona governor, said he had a message for President Bush.

“Build us that wall—now!” Goldwater said, referring to a measure that would add 700 miles of fences along the border. He promised that if elected, he would put illegal immigrants in a tent city on the border and use their labor to build the wall. Goldwater is a nephew of the late Sen. Barry Goldwater. Each month, thousands of illegal immigrants cross into Arizona. Since Oct. 1, agents have caught more than 48,000 in the area staked out this weekend, up 53 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Chris Simcox, the Minuteman group’s national leader, said four watering stations placed by the group Humane Borders to keep migrants from dying in the desert will be among the sites under surveillance. Last year, more than 400 people died trying to cross the desert, many from dehydration or heat exposure, according to the Border Patrol.

“We watch them all the time,” Simcox said of the water stations. “It’s a great place to report illegal activities.” Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox support a so-called guest worker program that would allow illegal immigrants already holding jobs in the U.S. to stay. The Minutemen arriving south of Tucson plan to patrol private ranch property about 30 miles north of the border. The group says it plans similar exercises along the border in California, New Mexico and Texas, and along the Canadian border in Washington, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York state.

In Sumas, Wash., about 150 Minuteman volunteers were keeping watch Saturday. “We’re going to be running posts both day and night,” said chapter organizer Claude LeBas, whose 10-acre farm was the staging area. Along with binoculars, cell phones and radios, a number in Arizona wore sidearms, including state Rep. Russell Pearce, a Republican and a leading voice in the Legislature calling for a crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Those planning to patrol were under strict orders to call the Border Patrol and to avoid confronting intruders or drawing their weapons, said Simcox and Stacey O’Connell, in charge of the Arizona chapter. Although last year’s patrols were nonviolent and disciplined, there are still concerns about having armed groups in a busy trafficking area, Border Patrol spokesman Gus Soto said last week.

Weapons are not part of the Northwest campaign, said LeBas, a retired U.S. Customs agent. Minuteman leaders have said that all the group’s members have been screened to weed out members of racist organizations. Still, the American Civil Liberties Union-Arizona said it was concerned over “the potential for taking actions and ... attempting to enforce immigration laws,” executive director Alessandra Soler Meetze said.
