Beaten To The Punch

I was going to comment on this story which I found offensive on so many levels. The biggest thing I found offensive was when the authors claimed to have contacted “politicians and commentators” yet on reviewing the list of aforementioned individuals I find “artists” “comedians” a “founder of some bullshit award” etc.

But Neal Boortz beat me to the punch.  Here it is in all its “ripped to shreds” glory:

Uh oh.  Here it comes.  The Independent Online Edition features an article today titled “Could the tsunami disaster be a turning point for the world?” The lead paragraph reads:  “As the international aid effort grows and George Bush launches a fresh appeal, we ask politicians and commentators if 2005 might see a new determination to tackle global poverty.”

So, there you go.  A massive earthquake and the resulting tidal waves are somehow being translated into an urgent need to address the problem of world poverty.  We all saw this one coming.

Let’s take a look at what some excerpts from what these “politicians and commentators” had to say about the issue:

* I am hopeful, but we must see a real commitment to changing the economic relationships between the West and the poorer countries. As well as charitable giving,
* On an individual level, it is not just about what we are prepared to give, but what we are prepared to give up. Having left Afghanistan and Iraq in their wake, can our leaders be trusted to fight a war on poverty? (This from a comedian)
* No longer can we exist in isolation when we see lives and livelihoods being destroyed.
* It seems churlish to say it, but while it’s relatively easy for most of us to give £50, it would be much harder for us to make the changes in our modern lifestyles that are needed if we are to move to a fairer world.  (A “fairer world?” Fine .. .define “fair.” This comment, by the way, from a Greenpeace honcho.)
* It was the same after 11 September. Everyone said it was a great opportunity to try to understand the world but it was used by the US as a reason to go on a rampaging adventure in Afghanistan and Iraq. (Another comedian heard from.  Somehow the Independent thinks that comedians are a great source for comments on how to change the world.)
* Western capitalism demands that people must be impoverished.  (This comment from an artist.  Imagine my surprise.)
* The danger is that resources which might have gone to Africa will go to this instead.  (Can’t shortchange Africa, can we?  Here is a continent with absolutely immense natural resources, and they can’t even feed themselves.)
* It would be one of the biggest breakthroughs mankind has ever experienced if we pooled our wealth in order to look after the poorer people of the world.  (A Novelist)
* It may make people realize that the UN needs to be well-equipped and funded. If people diverted money from weapons and war, we have the technology and money to be able to help - if we decide to do that. (The UN?  Talk about diverting money.  Has this former cabinet minister heard of the Oil-for-Food scandal?)

Now ... what’s missing from these comments?  One word.  Freedom.  The greatest mechanism for ending poverty the world has ever seen is capitalism and the free enterprise system, yet we see no comments from any of these exalted commentators and politicians relating to ending third world tyranny and bring the wonders of economic freedom to bear in a worldwide war on poverty.

Let me tell you where this is going.  Read those comments again and you’ll see references to “giving” and “giving up.” You see condemnations, not praise for capitalism.  These people are obviously focused on the idea of taking the current worldwide economic pie re-slicing it so that everybody gets a peace.  Nobody is talking about simply baking a bigger pie.

The anti-West, anti-capitalistic left is going to use this tsunami as a platform to promote not a rise in worldwide economic freedom, but for an increase in worldwide wealth redistribution.  The United States, as the richest nation in the world, is going to be cast as the villain, while poor third world countries will be presented to us as the victims.

One other thing.  In this quest to combat world poverty nobody is going to state the obvious:  That we have too many women in poor countries around the world having children that they simply cannot afford to raise.  Step one in avoiding poverty ... birth control.  Don’t have children you can’t afford.  But why bring that up when it’s just so much easier to attack the west and demand that their ill-gotten gains simply be seized and redistributed.”

Did You Catch It?

Go ahead.  Read this article. Then tell me if you caught Kofi in a major slip.

Find it yet?  (Hint:  it’s near the beginning.)

OK, I’ll tell you.

His quote is this:

“It was a unique scheme,” Annan told ABC’s “This Week.” “Yes, there may have been some corruption. There may have been some mismanagement. But the program achieved its results.”

According to Merriam Webster, the word “scheme” comes from the Latin schemat-, schema an “arrangement”

The Hyper-Dictionary Online says it can mean:

1.  [n] an elaborate and systematic plan of action
2.  [n] a statement that evades the question by cleverness or trickery
3.  [v] form intrigues (for) in an underhand manner

Returning to his quote, how’d you like to have everything in your life work that way?

Man to Home Builder: I gave you $300,000 to build my 4 bedroom house with pool and 3 car garage but labor and materials only came to $150,000 and all I have is a 2 bedroom mobile home and carport.  Where’d the rest of the money go?

Home Builder: Hey, buddy, you got what your “home,” right?

Billions of dollars stolen, countless deaths resulted from the lack of food and medical care and yet our elected representatives do absolutely nothing about either getting us out of the UN or getting this asshat prosecuted.

A Public Service Announcement

The headline intrigued me so I clicked on it.  You should also.

It’s about this 19 year old kid who, at 17, came up with Firefox, the browser that competes with MSIE.  I first heard about Firefox through Allan when I was having virus issues several months ago.

I’ve not looked back since.  It has several things going for it.  It’s free.  It’s easy of use and has tabbed browsing (open one window but within that window you can open multiple tabs to different sites or links.) I use this feature when I have several stories I want to post about but can’t, at that time, I read them.  I save the bookmark into a folder and later I can click on my “favorites” tab, find the folder, right click on it and open all the links in that folder as tabs in one browser window.  It keeps my task bar relatively clutter free especially when I have 10 or 15 sites open plus email, plus my blogger program, plus Word (to check my spelling) and Excel (to calculate how many people will criticize my grammar.)

Another VERY cool feature is the pop-up blocker integrated into it.  I might have one or two pop-ups that slip through....per month!

Lastly, it comes with an integrated Google bar built into the address bar.  Very convenient.

Anyway, I am sold.  Plus it is ALL FREE. (I said that already.)

Drawbacks?  Every once in a while you might run into a site whose contents can only be viewed in MSIE (a game site or two and Microsoft’s Money Central site.)

Go ahead, read about this kid.  Pretty smart guy.

On Gun Control

I smiled when I read this:  A survey by the Gallup Organization found that Americans own an average of 1.7 guns each. Gun owners owned an average of 4.4 (I need to go find another gun in order to get myself over the “average!")

I frowned when I read this:  Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed a bill outlawing a rifle in California.

Gun control advocates fear it may be used by terrorists to:

“assassinate a foreign leader or shoot down an airplane......They can pierce the skin of an aircraft,” said Daniel Vice, a lawyer with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, a supporter of the law. It could be used to shoot down an airplane. And we certainly don’t want to wait until a terrorist buys one before we ban it.”

I don’t know about you but I do not believe there has been any instance of airplanes being shot down by a single rifle recently.  Especially 30 pound, single shot rifles.  And most rifles have the power to penetrate aircraft skins.  They are, after all, thin aluminum.  Hell, I’ll bet a .22 or a .32 bullet could do it

Oh, and as if banning it in California will keep terrorists from buying one.  Ask the people of England and Australia and Brazil, where most guns are banned, if their criminals have any problems finding guns.  Go ahead.  Ask ‘em.  Wear a bullet proof vest, though, as you are likely to get shot.

Someone please explain to me again why it is so many republicans think the constitution needs to be amended to allow this asshat to run for president.  He is as liberal as the day is long at the North Pole on June 21st.

Try This In Your City

Commit a heinous crime.  Kill people.  Advocate terrorism.  Get arrested.

When it is time to go before the judge, do not do so.  Fail to appear saying that your toenails are too long.

I would then like you to tell me how long it would take for that judge to order your nails be cut (using force if necessary) or to order your camel fucking ass onto a stretcher to make sure you appeared.

Yet in England this asshole was given two more weeks before he needs to show again.  Where is a guard with an extra bullet just longing to be lodged in this moonbat’s head?

Personally, I’d rip this fuckers hooks off his hands and use them to pull out those toenails, liberally dose the wounds with salt afterwards and beat the son of a bitch to within an inch of his life.

NAGs In The News

As Rush so lovingly calls them, the National Association of Gals (NAGs), are in the news trying to stir up shit because they have nothing better to do......like getting laid so they could get over themselves and stop being so cranky.

MJ is a DJ in the local market with one of the hottest FM radio programs around.  He also does “The Schnitt Show” in the afternoons on AM.

He’s currently in the news because Clear Channel sponsored a contest called “Breast Christmas Ever” and women had to write essays describing why they wanted the free breast surgery.

13 won.

Out of 91,000 entries.

So, having nothing better to do and because they are a bunch of ugly skanks, NOW, who couldn’t get laid if you double bagged them and put a flag over their face in order to screw ‘em for “Ole Glory”, is putting out notices to have women protest to Clear Channel and the FCC about this contest saying it is demeaning to women.

I have five questions:

1.  why are the NOW women so fucking ugly?

2.  Why is it that they constantly scream that women should have “choice” when it comes to abortion (which, in itself, is also dangerous to the woman) yet won’t allow women to “choose” to get their breasts enlarged, enhanced, reduced or fixed? (which is not as dangerous plus, afterwards, if it does go bad you could still have kids, you just may not have mammaries.  If an abortion goes bad or you have too many you become sterile.)

3. Why are the women in NOW so DAMNED ugly?

4.  What the hell does nay of this have to do with the FCC?  What decency law was broken?

5.  Why are the women of NOW so fucking ugly?

Our Friends, The Saudis

Investigators looking into the country of origin for that suicide bomber that blew up the mess tent in Mosul was a Saudi medical student.

So someone explain to me why we still cozy up to these fucks?  They have an impotent armed forces and if they threaten to cut off our oil we can go in there and kill those worthless ragheads and take over the damned place.

Personally I’d rather have us go through some hard economic times than keep giving these camel fuckers more and more of our money.

The Sopranos Of The Blogosphere

The Columbia School Of Journalism has just released its report on “RatherGate” (except they refer to it as “BlogGate"). As you well know, the CSOJ is the school that graduates most of the liberal MSM reporting elite every year so it should come as no surprise that the CSOJ blames bloggers as much as it blames Rather. Here is their insightful analysis ....

Bloggers have claimed the attack on CBS News as their Boston Tea Party, a triumph of the democratic rabble over the lazy elites of the MSM (that’s mainstream media to you). But on close examination the scene looks less like a victory for democracy than a case of mob rule. On September 8, just weeks before the presidential election, 60 Minutes II ran a story about how George W. Bush got preferential treatment as he glided through his time in the Texas Air National Guard. The story was anchored on four memos that, it turns out, were of unknown origin. By the time you read this, the independent commission hired by the network to examine the affair may have released its report, and heads may be rolling. Dan Rather and company stand accused of undue haste, carelessness, excessive credulity, and, in some minds, partisanship, in what has become known as “Memogate.”

But CBS’s critics are guilty of many of the very same sins. First, much of the bloggers’ vaunted fact-checking was seriously warped. Their driving assumptions were often drawn from flawed information or based on faulty logic. Personal attacks passed for analysis. Second, and worse, the reviled MSM often followed the bloggers’ lead. As mainstream media critics of CBS piled on, rumors shaped the news and conventions of sourcing and skepticism fell by the wayside. Dan Rather is not alone on this one; respected journalists made mistakes all around.

So bloggers are a “mob”, eh? Do you know where the word “mob” comes from? There are various claims to the word’s origins but it achieved prominence in England in the 18th century when the nobility managed all the affairs of state and governed the rest of the people in the country, i.e., the great unwashed masses. As a direct response to this “aristocracy”, groups of people started roaming the streets accosting various noblemen, questioning them about various goings-on and forming large groups to protest acts of arrogance on the part of the lords. Since they moved about all over London, they acquired the name ”the mobility” (as opposed to “the nobility"). The name was later shortened to “mob”.

Now you know.

In our times, however, the word “mob” has acquired a newer meaning .... that of a group of people who go around whacking people who need whacking. CSOJ would do well to remember that.

An Explanation Of Magic

I recently received an e-mail from (supposedly) Key Bank. Since I don’t have an account with Key Bank and never have, I decided to see who the “phisherman” was. All it took was a couple of easily available tools that you or anyone can purchase over the internet. I highly recommend these tools.

First, here is the e-mail header:

Looks pretty real, doesn’t it? Pure bumbling fakery, actually. A quick check with E-Mail Tracker Pro and Visual Route determines that the message actually came from South Korea, more specifically from a damned elementary school network in a suburb of Seoul. Namely, right here ....

I highly recommend it in today’s modern internet world infested with crooks, thieves, liars and bastards (yes, there are many more than just Dan Rather and John Kerry).

What’s In A Name ?

Ray Ratto of ESPN pokes extreme fun at the Anaheim Angels, who will henceforth be known as the “Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim”. It’s true. The Angels decided to change the name to attract more fans from Los Angeles. Ratto has fun with many other teams who should change their names along the same lines ....

The San Diego Padres of Anaheim, Los Angeles, Tijuana and All The Way To The Arizona Line.

The Golden State Warriors of Oakland.

The Chicago White Sox of the South Side, You Wanna Make Something Of It?

and ....

The New York Yankees of Everything That Isn’t Nailed Down.

However ....

....

....

He missed one very important one ....

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
