Short, Sweet, To The Point

Lately Allan and I have noticed an uptick in “weird crap” occuring at this blog.

For example: (1) registrations dropping out for no apparent reason; (2) clicking on the comments link and finding a page for the blog ad taking the place of the “comments” page and getting stuck there; (3) pages not loading properly in MSIE, Opera or Netscape.

If you have experienced this within the past week please drop either of us a note explaining what it was and where in the site it occured.

A Tale Of Bravery .. And Possibly Stupidity?

We present two stories. Both about the same young man. I am deeply proud of the young man in the first story and deeply saddened by the same young man in the second story. Here is a picture of the young fellow. The story is not over yet so I beg everyone to withhold judgement until all the evidence is presented. I find it hard to believe the same young man is involved in both stories. We first covered the story of this young man back in April. Here are Shaun Jardine’s two stories ....

Bravery awards for KOSB corporals by JIM MCBETH TWO Scottish soldiers who showed great heroism under fire during the war in Iraq have joined the nation’s roll of war heroes. Corporal Shaun Jardine and Corporal Anthony Currie, both of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, have been awarded two of Britain’s highest gallantry awards. The Borderers are among 120 military personnel included in the Operational Honours and Awards List for 2003. Cpl Jardine, 22, from Dumfries, a soldier since he was 17, won the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross. Cpl Currie, 30, an 11-year veteran, from Hamilton, Lanarkshire, was awarded the Military Cross. Last night, Cpl Jardine’s mother, June, 43, said she was delighted. “I was just happy to see him come out alive, never mind a hero,” she said. “He is being modest, but he’s excited.” On 9 August, Cpl Jardine was commanding a rapid-reaction force from Al Uzayr in southern Iraq.

His team engaged two enemy positions, one occupied by three men with automatic weapons and the other by a machine-gunner.

The corporal told his men to cover him and, despite facing intense fire, he single-handedly charged the positions, killing the Iraqis.

His “quick thinking and total disregard for his own safety undoubtedly served to prevent casualties among his own team and other units”, according to his citation.

The day before - 8 August - Cpl Currie was commanding a unit also based at Al Uzayr.

He led his men on a frontal assault into heavy fire. During the assault an unexpected enemy appeared between Cpl Currie’s team and the objective.

He killed the enemy and maintained the assault, clearing buildings and wounding another two enemy combatants.

His citation records that his “selfless courage and inspirational leadership” led to the success of their mission.

Yesterday, Lieutenant Colonel Rob Jefferies, the soldiers’ commanding officer, said: “This is a proud day for all of us and tremendous news for these courageous young Borderers who have conducted themselves in keeping with the highest standards of our regimental tradition.”

Cpl Jardine phoned his mother in Dumfries from Northern Ireland, where the regiment is on a tour of duty.

Mrs Jardine added: “Every second of every day he was in Iraq we worried. I was so glad to have him home and so excited for him.

“His grandfather was a soldier, but sadly didn’t live to see Shaun a hero.”

The KOSB heroes were among a number of soldiers from Scottish regiments who received accolades.

Award as soldier faces cocaine rap Exclusive

A HERO of the war in Iraq who is at the centre of a cocaine probe will be decorated by the Queen today.

Corporal Shaun Jardine, 22, was arrested after police allegedly found him with the Class A drug.

Samples of a white powder are being analysed after cops stopped him outside a nightclub.

Jardine - who is in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers - faces the boot from the Army if he is guilty.

But the Dumfries man will still meet the Queen at the awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

He is to receive the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross - Britain’s second highest bravery award after the Victoria Cross - for his heroism during a tour of duty in Iraq last year.

He stormed two Iraqi gun positions single-handed while under fire.

An Army insider said: ‘It is hugely embarrassing that they are putting this boy before the Queen when he is under investigation for possession of cocaine.

‘The KOSBs still want that medal and were determined to send him to London to pick it up. Many people think if he is found guilty then he is not fit to wear the Queen’s uniform never mind meet her.

‘There is no place in the Army for drugs.’

Jardine, who signed up at 17, was considered a soldier with a bright future.

In April, he learned that he was to be awarded the prestigious medal.

But his career has been on the line since October 3 when he was arrested outside a nightclub in Kent. Jardine was in the area for training prior to a tour in Northern Ireland, where he is currently serving.

Police allegedly found white powder while searching him after a tip-off.

He was held on suspicion of possessing a Class A substance and bailed until December 10.

If the powder is cocaine, he could be cautioned or charged.

He would then face a court martial and possible dismissal from the Army.

A spokeswoman for Kent Police said: ‘The substance has gone off to forensics for testing. If there is anything to charge him with, that’s when we’ll have the evidence to do so.’

Jardine is one of only four servicemen being honoured for their work in Iraq by the Queen at today’s investiture.

Accolades will be given to more than 100 people from a number of walks of life including sport, the police and the fire service.

Last night, Jardine was enjoying a celebratory dinner at barracks in Woolwich, London, ahead of the presentation.

Example Of A Rhetorical Question

Can someone tell me why a fashion designer would want to mess up a model’s hairdo like this pictured below? I mean sticking straight up in the air on either side like some weird scarecrow hairdo? Why would anyone do that to their hair?

WE HAVE PROOF!!!

I have been criticized for my non-tolerant attitude towards sheetheads and accused of being racist and bigoted when I call them a bunch of homosexuals, camel fuckers and sheep violators.

Well, when I saw this headline I KNEW I was right on at least the first account.

Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein were “SECRET LOVERS!!!”

How else can you explain why Osama bin Laden attempted to buy the world’s largest pearl, the Pearl of Allah, to present as a gift to Saddam Hussein?  According to the story Hussein was prepared to accept.

HOT DAMN! They were gonna get married!  Sure sounds like an engagement ring to me!

Seeing as how the deal never was consummated reports are that bin Laden is now violating little boys and camels run away in fear when they smell him approaching.

Saddam was last seen pining away in a US military prison making doilies to put on the backs of sheep before he mounts them.

The Disadvantages Of Not Having A TV

For that matter, I could have also said, “The disadvantages of not having cable modem” because to have witnessed how Charles Gibson got all flummoxed on air would have been priceless.

If you’ve not heard, Gibson was interviewing Curt Schilling of the Boston Red Sox and as the interview was ending, Schilling says,

“And make sure you tell everybody to vote and vote Bush next week.”

Based on the audio I heard Gibson was struck dumb for several seconds with his crew chortling in the background.

How’s that for a nice little, “FUCK YOU, GOOD MORNING AMERICA!!!”

BWAH HA HA HA

Both President Bush and Curt Schilling are planning a visit to New Hampshire now.

OK, I like Boston now (not as much as the Yankees but they are now my number 1.27439 team.) Hell, thaty’s better than number 2 ain’t it?

Am I Prescient or What?

Recall this post I made a couple of days ago related to where I thought our election process was headed.

In it I mentioned we were headed towards national IDs.  Well, it looks like that process is started. On October 1 the House passed a bill to standardize the way states issue drivers’ licenses and then have all 50 stats’ drivers info tied into a national database.

I warned you!

Bringing Home The Bacon

So, what criteria do you use to elect your national senators and congresscritters?

Most of us vote for someone who will do things in Congress to benefit us.  But others of us vote for someone to not only do that but balance their decisions on “what’s good for the nation.”

More in a minute.

But first, a word from your author:  In moments of boredom and reverie I toy with the idea of running for office locally and then maybe even nationally (this usually takes place after I imbibe adult libations!) Anyway, I come to the conclusion that I would either be dissuaded to run by the burning crosses I’d find in my yard and if I overcome that then I would probably be shot during the campaign or if I avoid that, never be re-elected.

Let’s avoid discussing the first two and focus on the last hypothetical.  Why would I never be re-elected?  Because whenever it came time to make a decision on voting for a bill I would break ranks with either the President, my party, or my constituents.

And why would I do that?  Because my decisions would be based on what is good “for the nation.”

I found similar parallels during my Air Force career when it came time to moving people around or encouraging them to move on to other jobs.  Sure, they could have stayed or I could have fought tooth and nail to keep them but I knew they’d serve the Air Force better (and the country in the process) by going someplace else that needed their talents more than I did or I saw their potential and wanted to give them a boost.

Basically that is the point behind this article where Walter Williams writes about a model created by a Professor Kennedy that measures the efficiency of a lawmaker’s vote and relates it to economic efficiency.  He calls it the Econ-E Score and it functions

“by investigating votes in the 106th and 107th Congresses on issues where economic efficiency was at stake. He (Dr. Kennedy) analyzed votes on economic legislation that would yield nationwide benefits greater than costs and those that would have nationwide costs greater than benefits. The former were designated as efficiency enhancing and the latter efficiency diminishing.”

This TRULY is fascinating.  And guess who’s more efficient---Republicans or Democrats?

Of course, the media does not care if it’s accurate or not.  Just find some scientist who purports it to be true and publish it.  Even when,

Splendid News

It could not have happened to a better bunch of shitheads!

The Chicago Tribune and the L.A. Times announced they are suffering large drops in circulation.

I still say we need a concerted effort to effect the same result on papers like the NY Times, the Washington Post and others of the same ilk.  The power of the wallet is amazing and conservatives?Republicans need to take the battle to these shitbirds at the newsstand. Maybe then they will get the hint.

Here’s an interesting quote on why the President of Tribune Corporation is retiring:

“I have for quite a few years wanted to retire early and make my second job my first job,” said Fuller, who has written several books while at Tribune.
