War Stories
Two Purple Hearts In Two WeeksStaff Sgt. Robert D. Whisenant, a squad leader with the 1st Calvary, recently became eligible for two Purple Heart medals within a two-week period.
Whisenant was wounded for the first time April 29 while conducting an IED sweep along "RPG Alley."
"Just before midnight, a rocket-propelled grenade flew out of an alley from about 100 meters away," he recounted. The blast threw all the passengers to the floor and knocked out Whisenant. But he and the gunner got back up and returned fire. “I grabbed the 240B machinegun and we just started rocking,” Wisenant said.
Then, on May 6, Whisenant was hit again, this time by an IED.
"On the way back to our mission site an IED went off next to the left track of my vehicle right next to the driver," he explained. "It blew out our communications, knocked me to the floor for a few seconds. That's when I noticed that a piece of shrapnel had come up and hit me in the neck. I could feel it burning, so I reached up and pulled it out."
"I may be eligible for two Purple Hearts, but with 10 months left to go I'm not looking for three," Whisenant said jokingly.

From the “damn, ain’t it obvious?” department
We have some researchers at Harvard concluding obese kids suffer more from pollution but they can't pinpoint why.Makes you wonder if they've considered how a body, already under stress from having to lug around these little fat bastards, their arteries clogged with fat, their hearts pumping like nobody's business, their livers attempting to rid those bodies of poisons, their circulatory systems under pressure, their lungs incapable of keeping up with oxygen demands---what do you think, huh?
Makes it hard to fight a battle with pollution when you're already at war with slovenly, irresponsible behavior.
(Disclaimer: before the moonbats come out of the woodwork to complain some of these kids are not at fault because of hormonal imbalances, etc. I say, STFU! I am tired of that excuse.)

Murphy’s Military Laws
Here's a cool web site with all of Murphy's Laws For The Military.Samples:
- You are not Superman; Marines and fighter pilots take note.
- If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.
- If at first you don't succeed, call in an air strike.
- If you are forward of your position, your artillery will fall short.
- Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than yourself.
- If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
- Five second fuses always burn three seconds.
- Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.
- Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you.
- If you are short of everything but the enemy, you are in the combat zone.
- When you have secured the area, make sure the enemy knows it too.
- Incoming fire has the right of way.
- If the enemy is within range, so are you.
And my personal favorite ....
- The most dangerous thing in the world is a Second Lieutenant with a map and a compass.

Korean Friction
The US is pulling troops out of South Korea to send to Iraq and the South Koreans are getting nervous. They are entering into negotiations with the US Government to try to convince us not to withdraw our troops. One of South Korea's leading politicians recently visited America where he was supposedly told by US officials that “Korea is going in the wrong direction [in moving closer to China than the U.S.],” and, “Korea seems like the country with the most serious anti-Americanism outside the Arab World.”
Do you think the US might feel that way because of this, or this, or this.
Or just maybe .... all the trouble is being stirred up by people like this ignorant bitch.
My opinion: The Koreans are fine people and have always been staunch allies, however, the younger generation in Korea today is straining that relationship to the breaking point. These young people have no recollection of the Korean War or the pure hatred that lies just north of the DMZ. It may be time to pull our forces out and let them fend for themselves. As for the dog, I'll have mine with a little soy sauce and some rice on the side. "When in Rome, etc. ...."

Here We Go Again
Now here is a story that will bear watching. US troops today turned over control of Haiti to a multi-national peacekeeping force from the UN.I sense another UN-Kluster-Phuk&trade in the making, just like the mess the UN has created in the Balkans and several African countries. How much do you want to bet the US will be forced to send in the troops to Haiti within ten years? How about five years?
Here's how it starts: The United Nations says there will be 6,700 troops and 1,622 civilian police from 30 countries, led by 1,200 Brazilian troops.
Promises, promises .... here is the reality: Bright flags of about two dozen participating nations dot empty barracks at the airport but only samples of the blue U.N. hats and berets arrived prior to Tuesday.
The departing American General had this to say: "If you ask me whether we accomplished the mission, the answer is yes, but given the choice, everyone would volunteer to stay," Coleman said. "Haiti has been beaten up a whole lot."
The Haitian people had this to say: Some Haitians are skeptical. "I don't understand what they're coming to do yet," said Marie Andre, 31, from the southern village of Fond Verrettes, one of the towns worst affected by the floods. "If they're supposed to provide security, where are they?"
The UN forces will be commanded by a Brazilian General who had this to say: Brazil's private Agencia Estado news agency reported Monday that Heleno is worried about the mission. "General Heleno has one preoccupation," the agency said. "There is no definition yet of which forces will make up the mission."
I can't decide if this situation is FUBAR or FUBARBE, but I do know the people of Haiti are convinced it is BOHICA time again.
Stay tuned and keep your eyes on Haiti.

Who are the 100 most beautiful women?
Put together a group of beauty editors, make-up artists, fashion editors, model agencies and fashion photographers, ask them to name the 100 most beautiful women with the criteria being the:"embodiment of natural beauty, healthy living, beautiful on the inside and out, with great skin and a natural glow to their personality, as well as their complexion"
And they come up with Liv Tyler at NUMBER 2!!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Hey, I think she is cute as hell but number 2?
Oh, and Madonna came in at number 19. Let's see that criteria again: healthy living, natural glow to their personality, beautiful on the inside.
Yep, she'd be MY pick. Yessiree, Bob. Right on up there.

POWERFUL!!!!!
WOW!!! This is truly powerful stuff. Please take a few minutes to read what Mychal Massie has to say in his WorldNetDaily piece titled, "Undermining the war by dismissing history" concerning those who would undermine our efforts in Iraq. It is obvious they failed to read their history and Mychal gives example after example of events which took place back in the late 1700s in our own fight for freedom and when you read them they will provide perspective on what is going on now.Yet these naysayers continue to say we are losing, Bush is a liar, it's a quagmire. Very telling is this quote about those who are braying the most:
"Men who never served, women who cannot pump their own gas, actors who cannot tell you their zip codes, now claim to know best how not [sic] to wage war."
Go ahead, give it a read. Then tell Mychal how much you liked it.

For those of you………..
For those of you so intent upon developing alternative energy sources, I ask: Do we "need" alternative energy sources? If you read this and think there is any credibility to it, then the answer is no. Why? The earth naturally renews petroleum for us. It WAS NOT the by-product of dead dinosaurs. Come on, really, there'd had to have been a shitload of dinos to generate all the oil we've used so far!!
Anyway, it sounds plausible. Give it a read.
For those of you apologists out there who still think we shouldn't do anything to protect ourselves unless the French say it is OK, read this.
It should give you a better perspective why we have people who are like that today AND are now in the US AND would happily go along with whoever invaded our country AND then criticize those who fought and died to free them from the oppressive tyranny brought in by the invaders.
Raise your hand if you are surprised to read these folks are French.
For those of you who fail to grasp the concept of calories burned walking versus sitting, I bring to you from our "DUH!!!" department, this article. Who'd a thunk it? And to think money was actually spent coming to this conclusion. FUCKWITS!
For those of you who still do not believe there is bias in the media:

Daily Dose
Quote Of The Day"There is nothing worse than aggressive stupidity."
-- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
On This Day In History
June 1, 1812 - President Madison Calls On Congress To Declare War On Great Britain
By the summer of 1812 President James Madison had grown tired of watching America's merchant ships and sailors take a beating at the hands of the British. The nation's maritime interests had been caught in the crossfire of the Napoleonic Wars since the early 1800s. Though France had long since begged off from interfering with U.S. economic activities, England persisted in its practice of halting U.S. ships and seizing men who were suspected of having deserted the Royal Navy. Reluctant to build up America's military forces, Madison attempted to rebuff the British through fiscally minded measures. However, neither the Embargo Act (1807) nor successive versions of non-intercourse legislation (1809, 1810) did much to dissuade the British from their habit of harassing American ports and ships. And so on this day in 1812, Madison gave the call to Congress to declare war on Great Britain. Just three days later the hawkish House voted 79 to 49 to engage England in armed conflict; by the end of the month the United States was embroiled in the War of 1812.

Time again for something completely different
OK, holiday is over, family gone.Time to get busy with posting but before I do I just want to say the visit with the family went well. Had a great b-day party for my Mom and we had a great Memorial Day weekend chatting, catching up, and eating.
I do not know why I saved this story but I saw it last Friday and thought it was a bit strange (therefore the reason I kept it, I guess.)
Anyway, the night before my sister left she and her daughter decided we needed to engage in silliness so they went to Wally-World and bought a game complete with some "booby prizes" to award each winner. Read the article (at least the title) and see if you can guess what we played.
Upon seeing it in my stack of stuff last night it seemed to "fit" given my father is Portuguese, we have Portuguese blood and share that heritage (but I am NOT one of those hyphenated Americans!)
It HAS to be in the blood, huh?

NEW CHAT ROOM FEATURE
Well, I've gone and done it now. I've been toying with the idea ever since we opened this blog but kept deciding against it for various reasons. Then, I noticed the guys at DGCI decided to go ahead with the concept. Not many bloggers open chat rooms, preferring to let readers vent their spleen and discuss the topics in their comments to posts. Having on-line real-time discussions is something that I think is sorely needed in the Blogosphere and I thank the guys at DGCI for finally nudging me into implementing this here. All you need is a java-enabled web browser (if you are reading this, you probably already have one). No third-party messenger (AIM, Yahoo, MSN or ICQ) is required. Simply click on the "Chat Room" button in the Sidebar and follow the instructions. The Chat Room will be open 24/7 year-round. Vilmar and I will pop in occasionally to see what's going on and we will also schedule on-line discussion forums to let you talk to us directly about current events .... or whatever is on your mind.
The Chat Room is open to everyone. It is unmoderated and uncensored so try to behave. We do not record conversations or log users. In other words, anything goes. Free and open discussion is our greatest birthright and should be encouraged. However, with that said, be aware that there is an "Ignore" feature if some bloody Moonbat starts spouting drivel.
We hope you enjoy this new feature and welcome any comments on it.

Perspective--have we lost it?
Somewhat piggy-backing on Allan's post titled "the soldier's prayer" I give you this wonderful piece by Mark Steyn. He talks about the horrible mistakes made in other wars and how Americans seemed to understand that's the price you paid for in the weaponized chaos that takes place pursuing bad guys.He talks of how people dealt with these setbacks and says,
" they weren't a nation that prioritized retroactive pseudo-legalistic self-flagellating vaudeville over all else. They had hellish setbacks but they didn't lose sight of the forest in order to obsess week after week on one tiny twig of one weedy little tree."
Yet today,
"There is something not just ridiculous but unbecoming about a hyperpower 300 million strong whose elites -- from the deranged former vice president down -- want the outcome of a war, and the fate of a nation, to hinge on one freaky jailhouse; elites who are willing to pay any price, bear any burden, as long as it's pain-free, squeaky clean and over in a week. The sheer silliness dishonors the memory of all those we're supposed to be remembering this Memorial Day."

The Soldier’s Prayer
I received this in an e-mail with no information about the author. If anyone knows who wrote this, please let me know so I can properly attribute it ....A Soldier's Prayer
I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at Valley
Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands.
He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from
months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his
family surrounded by nothing but death and the carnage of war.
He stands tough, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks
at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this...
I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your
children graduate too illiterate to read it.
I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you stay
at home because it rains.
I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you remain
silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business.
I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has
stolen democracy from the people.
It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.
It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.
It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is
draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!!
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect
us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. Amen."

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.
- Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
- Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
- Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
- Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
